The worst is when Workday parses your resume wrong and you know you're gonna have to make the same corrections on every site because God forbid they allow you to upload some different format that is easily machine readable.

Re: bad with large code -- that's been something I've been noticing as well. A project I've been working on for work has gotten larger now and it seems more often that it makes goofy mistakes. Like removing something somewhere but leaving something related somewhere else. My best guess is that it's all context window stuff. As humans, we can learn a lot and keep it all in our heads. But an AI model, if it's not something from its training set and it's not in its context window, then it just straight up does not know it exists. I'm guessing because context windows have gotten bigger that ai coding has gotten more impressive. But we'll see if they're able to keep scaling that. I imagine at some point it's gonna hit a soft wall (or at least a price wall lol).

[-] JackbyDev@programming.dev 6 points 1 day ago

I'll preface this by saying I'm not trying to sound like a tech bro. I'm really trying to give a level and measured response.

Over the past year, AI coding has gotten very good. It can catch weird mistakes that are not obvious. But it can also just totally miss obvious things and get caught up in shit that doesn't matter. The best way to describe it is like an extremely eager and very smart junior developer. They get easily distracted. They get easily caught up in edge cases that don't matter. That can easily miss extremely critical things.

The biggest thing is that it's fast.

We'll see how cheap it is long term when companies need to be profitable and run out of investors to convince.

Dixie is a term for the area of the south in the US that seceded from the union which led to the American Civil War. They seceded over slavery. There is a massive disinformation campaign from back then called the Lost Cause of the South (often just lost cause). People try to frame it as being about other things like states' rights, but we don't need to guess, the states that left the union said why in their letters of secession. They left over their "property" rights being violated. Property to what? People. The fugitive slave act specifically. Slave states in the south wanted to compell free states in the north to return escaped slaves.

So that's the primer on the civil war and lost cause movement, but you can see it's effects everywhere. It's hard to really describe to an outsider. It's hard to describe to people living in the south who grew up here who don't see it as political. You'll tell them things like "Isn't it fucked that Stone Mountain has the world's largest Confederate monument?" They'll respond "hey, I went to that fireworks and laser show there all the time as a kid, it was never about politics and I loved it!" Meanwhile completely ignoring that normalizing celebrations under a monument to the fallen heroes of the south (therefore ones defending slavery) is fucked.

Content wise, I never went to the Dixie Stampede, so I can't tell you exactly what it featured. But Stone Mountain in GA had a similar thing. I remember commercials for the Stampede when I visited Gatlinburg. They showed Union and Confederate troops on horses and mentioned how it played up the "friendly rivalry " with the north. Stone Mountain had a similar thing. It would show imagery of people fighting, but finally one of them puts their sword down and breaks it, representing peace. I think it was even a Confederate one who did. People who grew up in the south have just received a lot of stuff like this over the years and many don't see how problematic it is, even if they genuinely and truly are not racist. This is exactly what the Lost Cause movement has been about. They knew they could never outright convince people that things were good, but they just want to soften the edges. Get people to question it just a little bit.

Stone Mountain, once again, the world's largest Confederate monument, sat partially finished for a very long time. It was only after schools desegregated in the US (Brown v. board of Education) that it was finished. The wikipedia article has a better timeline with specifics. Literal members of the KKK were involved. It's not some goofy conspiracy theory. It's all very well documented. They said they were doing it because of schools being desegregated.

We see this a lot all over. Dixieland was another amusement park near me growing up. I think the best way to think about it is how a lot of times pioneers or cowboys can become a theme for amusement parks and similar attractions, Confederate troops became one. It likely began more racist and overt, but over time just became something that was normalized. Only around the 2010s did people really seem to wake up from their collective stupor and say "hey what the actual fuck are we doing?"

I'll be honest. Prior to her death, this was something I always brought up about her. I'd even say it made me suspicious of her. To be truthful, it was sort of a bit, the way some celebrities just feel to squeaky clean, but it did still upset me. I can't personally speak for when or if the content of the Stampede (formerly Dixie Stampede) show changed its content. Like I said, I've never been. The only commercial I remember about the "friendly rivalry" was from the Dixie Stampede name era.

Dolly Parton seemed to love LGBTQ people and spoke up about it often. She did a lot of charity work in her local community too. I'm not trying to ignore that or cancel her or some shit. Without really digging deep on stuff about her, it felt like she tried to be outspoken but tried hard to not get labeled as political. I'm not sure that means she fought less. She fought hard enough that many people did say she was problematic for supporting queer people. I'm just rambling by this point trying to reconcile my views of her into something succinct, but I don't think I can. I guess the best way to put it is that I grew up in the south too and I got duped by these things as a young person. Some of my most fond memories of my early relationship with my now wife are from us doing stuff at Stone Mountain. I think the Unite the Right rally in 2017 was a big turning point in America. I think it's what finally snapped a lot of people out of their collective haze. Or if not that directly, the after effects of it. And I wonder if I was Dolly Parton's age, would I have realized how messed up things were around 2018 when she did? It's very likely. As a kid I was definitely conservative. I grew out of that, thankfully. But it's really hard to explain just how subtly the Lost Cause messaging can affect people.

My fifth grade teacher, who I have no reason to believe is a racist, very specifically told us that General Lee (the main general of the Confederacy) was a very honorable man. She spoke so poetically about him. About how he only sided with the south because it was his home. As if it were a burden of duty. Looking back, I have to wonder who her teacher taught her. The Daughters of the Confederacy (main people in the Lost Cause) would reject textbooks because they were "unfair to the south." it makes me wonder what bizarre slants she was told. Was her merely saying Lee was a "good man" a result of her deconstructing the lies she was told over decades? I don't know. It could be. And I'm not praising her, don't get me wrong, I'm just trying to help paint a picture of how successful the Lost Cause movement was. It's easy for people to say "well, it obviously wasn't successful, slavers are dumb" or something, but look at pictures of any remotely rural gathering from the 1980s or so in the south. Look at the number of Confederate flags. Today we get cagey when we see some, and they're mostly only the most remote of places (mostly), and the notable exceptions stick out like crazy. It wasn't so long ago that they were genuinely ubiquitous.

I could ramble more about this topic but I think this is enough of a primer and enough of my personal experience as someone born in 1991 in the south to get a picture of what it's been like for the non-American readers. Happy to yap more if anyone has questions.

I'm curious about this game and might want to pitch it to my group, but I'm curious to see what actual play sessions are like. Can anyone recommend some podcasts or preferably videos of it? I'm more interested in well produced but sort of mid tier "acting" if that makes sense lol. Super top of the line productions like Critical Role can sort of give a skewed impression.

I was curious if this was a Jerboa issue or just the instance, but I get the same problem when I use the web version. When I try to go to the second page of posts (by clicking next or scrolling down) it seems to hang forever. Is this affecting others or just me?

This should solve my power for a while. Turbofuel is really nice. Clean burning, too!

Pro tip: Power shards increase power consumption exponentially for machines, but linearly for generators. That means that a generator at 250% overclock is exactly the same as 2.5 generators at 100%. This saves a lot of space with turbofuel. In the bottom right you'll see 25 generators. Without overclocking I would've needed 63 of them. I have been judicious with my power shards, so this was nice.

I was really satisfied with this picture. You can see pretty much all of the build in one shot The only thing you can't see is the sulfur extraction.

Oops.

I'm really surprised there doesn't seem to be a modded (or vanilla) splitter that lets you set the output ratio for each side. I saw one that lets you configure the rate of output, but I'm not sure if it's updated. Regardless, a simple thing like "this side gets 1, this side gets 3, this side gets 0" would be so useful for building manifolds that don't take forever to balance and other stuff.

7

When a building is on and running, the light is green. When the building is overclocked (and maybe whenever it has a power shard) the light is bluish white. This is useful to find buildings with power shards! Is there a mod to make the light change to a color based on under clocking?

It shouldn't really matter, because seeing what a building does requires opening it anyways, but I still think this would be nice.

Today I haven't been able to login through Jerboa. It worked fine in the past. I downloaded Voyager to try and it failed as well. Weirdly the browser works perfectly fine. Any idea what might be happening? Thanks, friends!

It's frustrating that pawns and animals don't avoid stepping on spike traps when moving animals from pen to pen. Is there any mod that fixes this or just makes spike traps never trigger on friendlies (removing the 0.4% chance)?

YES, I did solve this post as I was writing it. YES, I am still going to post it. THE PROBLEM WAS THAT THERE WAS A CHESS TABLE IN FRONT OF MY THRONE. This does not prevent people from using the throne, but during the bestow ceremony they need that spot apparently.

Relevant snippet of logs below. The link has the entirety that got uploaded.

First, I am playing with mods, but even after I disable literally all mods and start this quest fresh to do the bestow ceremony it still does this, so I don't think it's the mods. Also as the title says this is 1.5. If I was playing on 1.6 I would upload these to a more official source.

When I tell my royal to begin the bestow ceremony, he just idles. Nobody else reacts to join, they just keep doing whatever. He just sits there, frozen in time. I let the game run for ~12 hours (in-game) and he still hadn't moved.

Searching around this seems to be somewhat of a known bug, but I'm not seeing anything about these logs specifically. I have tried calling the bestower in multiple times and each time he freezes. Even when I do the "cancel ceremony" and call them back later it does the same thing. Even when I remove all the optional spectators it does this.

In the bottom right you can see Grump idling. In the bottom left you can see that he is trying to attend the bestow ceremony. In the top left you can see the bestower waiting.

Many of the forms of the Physical Love precept forbid pawns from sharing a bed with anyone other than a spouse but they all also give negative mood modifiers for lovin' people other than a spouse. I thought the only way two pawns could engage in lovin' was through sharing a bed. Am I missing something? Why give the negative mood modifier if it's impossible for it to even happen? Are there mods that allow them to do lovin' outside of bed and get the mood modifier?

Pretty much the title. It's just confusing trying to compare and contrast them when all the precepts are in different spots for each ideoligion.

When I got to a quest site I made a hitching spot because I understand pen animals like horses (what I brought) may wander off without one. After I undrafted my colonists they hitched them. I dealt with the EMI interference, rejoice! Let's go home.

But they aren't. Turns out the problem was the hitch spot. They wouldn't unhitch the horses to leave. They loaded them but until I manually deconstructed the hitch the horses were wandering and the colonists wandering the edge of the map waiting for the horses. It took a while to figure out what was wrong. Is this a bug/known quirk?

Also, caravans in general are sort of annoying to deal with. It seems tricky to figure out why they aren't leaving. On the way to the site I had a similar problem. Turns out I said to bring 8 meals but someone grabbed one and I only had 7. I think I brought up a screen showing what was loaded and missing but I don't remember how I did. Any clues?

Edit: Okay, so I don't actually know why they didn't unhook the horses, that may still be a bug, but I see now that the intended way to leave a site is to use reform caravan once all threats are neutralized (which includes destroying or shutting down turrets). Then they just magically do everything instead of manually hauling. Also, having done a few more without caravan spots I haven't seen the pack animals wonder off. My best guess is that the game treats them differently or something. But I'm not 100% sure because when I got back home, some tried wandering off before being unloaded. Who knows.
