Happy Paraire! (Everything else here is blatantly copied and pasted from @Dave's posts)

Welcome to today’s daily kōrero!

Anyone can make the thread, first in first served. If you are here on a day and there’s no daily thread, feel free to create it!

Anyway, it’s just a chance to talk about your day, what you have planned, what you have done, etc.

So how’s it going?

I'm okay! Glad to see there's a NZ Lemmy instance for me to join since leaving Reddit.

Haven't got a lot planned this weekend except try and finish Final Fantasy but next weekend a friend from Auckland is coming down for Matariki so will be good to catch up with her and her partner.

Lemmy has actually been such a breath of fresh air for me since jumping over from Reddit. Great to hear you've got some friends around for Matariki, I'm in the process of trying to convince my Uncle and younger cousin to make the trip from Akl to Chch 🤞

[–] Boldizzle@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Yeah really looking forward to catching up with this friend. Should be fun! Oh that sounds cool, really hope they can make the trip!! Christchurch is great, I miss it there and hoping I can get back there again sometime.

Welcome! My only plan for the weekend includes a trip to the local market to suss out the vege man.

Feeling a bit overwhelmed today. Kids, work, wife, nothing's 'bad' just feel like too many pieces in the air and something's about to come crashing down. At least it's almost the weekend though :)

I can really relate to the 'constant feeling of vague impending doom.'

[–] Axisential 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Yeah, that constant low grade anxiety is a bugger. But, it comes and goes so I can't complain. I've had the nasty version before at times so I'm thankful it's not that :)

I need to get up and go to the gym but it's raining outside and warm in my bed. At least it's Friday.

The SO received a package from AliExpress that he'd ordered in February so maybe there's hope for the $2 earrings I ordered in March.

Happy Friday afternoon, people's!

I've been ordering some stuff from Temu and their shipping has actually been fast and free. Usually a week or sometimes two to be delivered. Everytime I look at Aliexpress lately, it says fast shipping then the estimated delivery date is like a month and a half out. Ali definitely has a larger range of items though.

[–] flashmedallion 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Temu is just a different front-end for the same logistics network that Ali Express runs on.

The main difference is that the Chinese Govt is spending billions to use Temu to undercut Amazon. That won't last forever so I say get in early with Temu and profit from their stupid economic battlefield

[–] eagleeyedtiger@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Haha yeah I have a feeling the free shipping won't last forever. I do notice they consolidate everything into one parcel vs Aliexpress' way of sending from different suppliers. They're owned by Pinduoduo as far as I can tell.

Any reason why they chose Temu over Aliexpress? Just because they don't like Jack Ma or something?

[–] flashmedallion 2 points 1 year ago

I think it's just a rebrand intended to avoid association with AliExpress by the average consumer. AliExpress isn't going anywhere.

[–] ColonialSpore 3 points 1 year ago

I ordered something from Aliexpress. Tracking showed it got into NZ in 10 days.
It took a further 53 days to get from NZ post to me, and my delivery address is 4km away from the NZ Post mega setup in East Tamaki. Don't give up hope.

NZ movie night at mine. Deathgasm and The Breaker Upperers.

I made it to the bus on time. Bus driver let me on even though my card didn't have credit. It should have auto top but I guess it had my old debit card on it?

There should be an easier way to update your cards across the various websites when they expire. I don't want to have to login to onlyfans, hotmilfs, alienbabes and studmuffins etc to update my card details every couple years because I'm going to forget something somewhere.

It feels like it could be built in functionality with a password manager but not without some sort of standardisation across sites. Which maybe we don't want.

Just use the scream test. They'll let you know when they can't get payment from you.

[–] luthis 2 points 1 year ago

Well, it's been working for me for the most part so far

[–] luthis 1 points 1 year ago

Oh well, looks like we're going to have a good weekend, pretty nice morning weather in tamakimakaurau!

[–] cloventt 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

NZ Post claim they delivered a parcel to me this morning, but no sign of it anywhere on my property.

Normally I’d just roll my eyes, but this one contains some medication.

[–] luthis 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Oh shit. Not at your neighbour's place?

[–] cloventt 3 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Yup! He delivered it to my neighbour. NZ Post support were really good - they could see he’d parked up outside the wrong house.

[–] Axisential 2 points 1 year ago

That's actually superb! So many horror stories about NZ Post and deliveries etc, so great to hear a positive one

Feels shorter than last week, but still a bit of a slog. At least it is a short week, next week.

[–] James4832@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I'm so glad Matariki was made a public holiday, this stretch of the year was so bad in past. Felt like such a slog

[–] Albatr0ss@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Yeah same, this time of year is so grim.

[–] flashmedallion 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Going to be out of the country for a month and will miss Matariki, which feels kind of lame. It's such a great new celebration.

Currently filled with dread about our holiday, currently can't wait for for it to be over so I can stop worrying, and it hasn't even started yet. I'm sure I'll be fine once we get underway.

I'm not normally a worrier about this kind of thing but, the world just seems so shit lately and like something is begging to go wrong. Have a train transfer in Paris in a couple of weeks which may prove... exciting.

[–] phalanx 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Try and be excited about it 🙂 overseas opportunities don't come around all that often (for the most of us) and it's completely normal to be a little nervous - but you probably know as well as well all do, that once you're back, you'll wish you were still on your trip!!

[–] flashmedallion 3 points 1 year ago

I know, I know. Thanks for the pep talk though.

I'm keeping myself busy by looking for something to do in London with my brother on Friday since he will never have celebrated Matariki before
