This makes a valid case for removing the president's ability to issue pardons. Would it be such a great loss, if it means the privilege can no longer be abused like this?

We must think of and protect the children

Its likely the pardon could be removed but getting that to apply retroactively would be even harder. However i think Americans need to do both.

I'd argue it makes a valid case This dude's not going to uphold the Constitution or do his job..

And we should ignore those.

Just... charge them anyway. Arrest their asses, because of the crimes they did. Reject the naked illegitimacy of criminals themselves being able to go 'nuh uh.'

Yeah, we can't let these clowns keep blatantly ignoring the law and then turn around to claim it protects them.

Shhh he said he's gonna leave. Let them feel safe otherwise they will try to cling to it.

Even as a joke, do not appease fascists pre-emptively.

I bet these top aides really badly hope he doesn't die of a sudden heart attack or stroke before he has a chance to. If he ever even had the intention to keep his word about that to begin with, which is a stretch since there wouldn't be anything in it for him at that point.

So he's at least contemplating leaving office. Baby steps.

The article lists so many obviously greed-motivated pardons, it's disgusting.

He also said he presidential ~~library~~ hotel/offices wouldn't happen until after he left office

Ooooh a pardon!! Is that like a magical seal that repels all justice? It sure would be a shame if literally no one gave a single fuck if there was a pardon or not when this government is burned to the ground.

[–] muusemuuse@sh.itjust.works 5 points 4 months ago

Only Trump knows when that clot will hit

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 5 points 4 months ago

I wonder what the next US government will do with these useless pardon papers.

They could simply wipe their asses with it, but I guess they'll just go "oh well, it's official!" because they might need them themselves later or something

Anyone dreaming about seeing those pardoned assholes back in prison, seeing anyone from the current trump administration in jail, is indeed only dreaming

[–] WorldsDumbestMan@lemmy.today 3 points 4 months ago

He is going to fuck half of them over.

[–] mickus@sh.itjust.works 3 points 4 months ago

Pardons dont apply to the hague

[–] RaoulDuke25@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 4 months ago

If there is another president, just say Trump had dementia and wasn't of sound mind, so they don't count.

Another way to say "don't leak any of the unleaked stuff I have said/done and in return I shall protect you"
