It is, I don't know how he stayed calm enough to get that focus on the eyes of his attacker.

And yet...

I can't not say it ...

"Eh, looks like the fascist coward pretty much couldn't miss, with the way that spray spreads out over his victim. A mediocre shot at best."

[-] faythofdragons@slrpnk.net 24 points 4 months ago

Probably pulled focus as the dickhole was getting ready to spray, did a burst shot, and picked the best out of the group

[-] hereiamagain@sh.itjust.works 6 points 4 months ago

Can you burst shot with flash on modern cameras? Honest question, I don't professional photography

[-] 9point6@lemmy.world 9 points 4 months ago

I've got a bottom-of-professional level Sony flash that can strobe up to 10 times a second for 4 seconds.

I can only imagine that would be like a diet flashbang at close range, so I hope he did indeed burst

[-] mech@feddit.org 9 points 4 months ago

Yes, but don't do that for portrait photography if you want to keep your job.

[-] hereiamagain@sh.itjust.works 3 points 4 months ago

That's fair 😂

It's expected nowadays for mirrorless pro cameras to recognize eyes and autofocus on them.

He really captures the vapid, ho-hum, space cadet, business-as-usual, "this is fine" look in his eyes.

Pepper-spraying people isn't an "of course" event. It's an off-course event. This part of the world is broken — and anyone who takes blithe satisfaction and daily pay from it is a broken person.

[-] brem@lemmy.world 18 points 4 months ago

That was a fine example of gonzo journalism, thank you.

[-] PostaL@lemmy.world 1 points 4 months ago

I dunno... I just see "dork" in there

[-] Zahille7@lemmy.world 49 points 4 months ago

This one deserves a prize.

[-] brem@lemmy.world 26 points 4 months ago

If books still exist in the future, this'll be in the historic photos from this era.

This is the kind of photo that does damage to their reputation.

Pictures are powerful, and this one is very much so.

Fuck Nazis.

Fuck ICE.

Fuck Donald Trump.

I can only say the same thing so many times.

[-] BC_viper@lemmy.world 25 points 4 months ago

Only good ice agent is a dead ice agent.

[-] mech@feddit.org 19 points 4 months ago

A photo so good it brings tears to my eyes.

[-] Whostosay@sh.itjust.works 18 points 4 months ago

I wonder how cheaply and effectively you could make a high powered fan rig/battery backpack thing that would move air fast enough to change the direction of this spray

Well shit. Tru

Here I am over-engineering the revolution, when we already have airzooka.

This is actually the play I think. You know how ridiculous it would look to flee from a battalion of airzooka-men? Not only that, but it's be iffy to have just a few of these, but a couple hundred?

[-] SpikesOtherDog@ani.social 7 points 4 months ago

These dangerous weapons will cause them to fear for their lives.

[-] yermaw@sh.itjust.works 2 points 4 months ago

Tbf "vortex cannon" sounds sci-fi lethal af

[-] fubbernuckin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 4 months ago

Lmao I can just see the politicians picking up that name to make it sound like the resistance is pulling up with sci-fi weapons

[-] yermaw@sh.itjust.works 4 points 4 months ago

Vital peacekeeping operations were assaulted by a militant antifa splinter cell armed with vortex cannons

[-] doopen@lemmy.world 4 points 4 months ago

A bazooka-type weapon outfitted with a pistol grip and sight optic

[-] rumba@lemmy.zip 2 points 4 months ago

picking up an airzooka and making it thwomp would 100% get you shot

[-] backalleycoyote@lemmy.today 6 points 4 months ago

Peaceful, unarmed, polite compliance 100% gets you shot. If you’re going to do something, bring something that matches what you’re up against.

Notably, not a kids toy :)

[-] backalleycoyote@lemmy.today 2 points 4 months ago

In America a lot of us are given firearms before middle school, unfortunately not all of us have responsible adults teaching us they’re not toys or fashion accessories. We allow ourselves access to lethal tools but teach no responsibility and give the worst ones a badge to shield them from any consequences of their recklessness and bloodthirst.

[-] brem@lemmy.world 7 points 4 months ago

I say we start a GoFundMe...bribe someone to install the nozzles on backwards. Add some glitter in the mix as well.

[-] mech@feddit.org 1 points 4 months ago

The spray is expected to work in strong winds, so anything battery-powered won't work.

[-] Whostosay@sh.itjust.works 4 points 4 months ago

Diesel it is

[-] Cethin@lemmy.zip 3 points 4 months ago

I agree it needs to be powerful, but this is like the comments people make about electric cars being weak. Battery powered is the most effective option for a high powered device, at least one that needs to ramp up quickly. One of the best things about electric motors is how much torque they can provide, and at a moment's notice. Sure, it might be heavy if you want it to last long, but it's easily possible.

[-] CmdrShepard49@sh.itjust.works 3 points 4 months ago

Battery powered leaf blowers can blow air at 200MPH. They even make backpack variants to carry a large battery

[-] ApollosArrow@lemmy.world 16 points 4 months ago

Beautiful Agony.

[-] M137@lemmy.today 16 points 4 months ago

Orange irritants? Reminds me of someth... no wait, of someone! 🤔

[-] mech@feddit.org 15 points 4 months ago

To be fair, the photographer shot a lot of photons at the ICE agent.
Those can be dangerous!

[-] Jerb322@lemmy.world 11 points 4 months ago

This would make a great target picture. For you know, practice. BB gun, blow darts, sling shot.....

[-] WeeneyTodd@lemmy.world 10 points 4 months ago

The splashes of toxic chemicals look almost exactly like a bunch of embers. Kinda fitting, considering the horrible effect they have

[-] Jake_Farm@sopuli.xyz 7 points 4 months ago

My first impression was that of fiery embers.
