Women only trans inclusive This is an inclusive community for all things women. Whether you're here for make up tips, feminism or just friendly chit chat, we've got you covered.

Rules…

  1. Women only… trans women are women, and transphobic or gender critical talk isn’t allowed. Anyone under the trans umbrella (e.g. non-binary, bigender, agender) is free to decide whether a women's community is a good fit for them.
  2. Don’t be a dick. No personal attacks, no aggression, play nice.
  3. Don’t hate on groups, hatefilled talk about groups is not allowed. Ever.
  4. No governmental politics, so no talk of Trump actions etc. We recommend Feminism@beehaw.org for that, but here is an escape from it.
  5. New accounts or users with few comments may have their posts removed to prevent spam and bad-faith participation.

I want to expand my playlist, do you have any recommendations?

Some of my current favorites include Kiki Rockwell, Shara Nova (My Brightest Diamond,) Jesca Hoop, Mirah, Feist and Rising Appalachia.

Edit: There are too many of you to thank individually, so just know my list has expanded drastically and you're all appreciated.

If you like Paramore you may want to check out Hayley Williams' solo work as well. I enjoyed her album from last year, "Ego Death At A Bachelorette Party."

Pop punk is such a fun vibe

[–] UncleArthur@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It may not be your thing, but Agnes Obel is one of my favourites. This is one of her best tracks IMO.

Are you into alt/goth bands? I've found some you likely haven't heard of

[–] Wren@lemmy.today 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Absolutely, I'm into all genres.

Some of these you likely know. Try Poppy, Emily Jeffri, melancholic crossroads, Deliah Bon and Lauren Saunderson and Dana Jean Pheonix. Be aware Deliah Bon most famous song is about rape so it may be triggering.

[–] deepfriedchril@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Here's a mix of some ones I found recently:

  • South arcade
  • Honey Revenge
  • Blame Me!
  • Davvn
  • Au/Ra
  • Good Boy Daisy
  • Instant Crush
  • Stitched Up Heart
  • Meet Me @ the Alter

More:

  • Yours Truly
  • Stand Atlantic
  • Stela Cole
[–] SpookyBogMonster@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

This isn't going to be super strongly thematic or focused on a specific genre, but here's what I've been listening to lately.

Bands will be listed, along with the specific album I've been listening to in parenthesis, in case you need a place to start.

  • Hop Along (Bark Your Head Off, Dog)
  • The Beths (Jump Rope Gazers)
  • Ekko Astral (Quartz EP)
  • Gezebelle Gaburgably (The Freezer)
  • No Vacation (Phasing)
  • Sussanah Joffe (Your Mother's Name)
[–] whyrat@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

On mobile, but here's a few big ones:

Popular (I'd argue mainstream) I've not seen mentioned:

Florence and the Machine (no one mentioned her yet? Similar style to Fiest)

St. Vincent (again, pretty well known. Won a Grammy in 2025)

Brandi Carlisle (more folk/country. I enjoy her collaborations more than her solo stuff)

Semi-popular:

Lucious (female duo vocals)

Suki Waterhouse

+1 for The Beaches

Edit to add:

Jenny Lewis

The Kills

[–] JeSuisUnHombre@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

  • Megan From Work
  • Nubya Garcia
  • Wednesday
  • Dominique Fils-Aime
  • Heather Maloney
  • Kate Bush
  • Jill Scott
  • Erykah Badu
  • Esperanza Spalding
  • Hiatus Kaiyote
  • DOMi & JD Beck
  • Doechii

Aww, definitely going to bookmark this thread.

I've completely fallen for Chelsea Wolfe last year. Also enjoying Portishead, Darkher and Emma Ruth Rundle a lot lately.

Oh yes, I am melancholic occasionally, how did you know?

Edit: Eeeeeek, Kiki Rockwell is soooo cool!

Against Me, but honestly, I have only really listened to one of their songs called Crash. It's on my happy playlist because it's goofy af and improves my mood. Maybe all their other songs suck, I dunno, but Crash is fun.

Fever Ray is pretty cool. She makes some pretty dark and weird music with bizarre music videos, dude xD I dig it.

MØ's old stuff is great. I think she became a little too poppy and generic over the years, but her early works are great. Strange, fun and to me some of her songs evoke this weird nostalgia that I can't quite place.

Ray Dee Oh was a Danish duo in the 80s that made a lot of fun and cool music. I listen to them sometimes.

Heart was an old 70s band that made a toooooon of awesome music. Magic Man is probably their most famous song, I think?

Heilung has a really cool female singer. Also a weird band where the band members wear antlers and dress like prehistoric deities.

Under Byen - another weird band. They're Danish and made weird music. I don't know if they're still around today, but look up Samme Stof som Stof and see if the music tickles your fancy.

Mélanie Laurent has some cute songs I listen to sometimes. Kiss and Fin are my favs of hers.

Tash Sultana, I highly recommend if you are into funky music. She became famous for a video she did in her mom's living room, called Jungle. It's really cool.

Zheani also makes some weird music. She's mostly known for being a fan of Die Antwoord and a victim of Ninja's. Some people believe her, some people don't. I always believed her. And well, doesn't hurt that her music is pretty good.

There are plenty more, but these were some of the bands/artists of the female persuasion that I enjoy listening to, and yes, I like weird music and you should be grateful that I didn't start dragging you down the rabbit hole of Bulgarian women's choir teaming up with tradtional Mongolian throat singing band and all that shit. That album is called Fly Fly My Sadness, btw, and it slaps.

[–] ashenone@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 month ago

Appalachian Terrir Unit is a crust punk band that fucking rules and has a woman on vocals

[–] CurvatureOuttakes@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (2 children)

(Not all bands are always female vocals) -Indy/punk- Pity sex, Tigers jaw, Lemuria, Hop along, War on women, G.L.O.S.S, The last dinner party, Expert timing,

-Pop- Wild ones, The beaches

-Ska- Dance hall crashers, Save Farris

That’s all i can come up with for now, I’m sure I’m forgetting a bunch. Usually you only need a few bands to find more of a sound you like. (Edit:formatting)

I like AViVA and Ado in general, and have liked some of Sasha Alex Sloan's songs (like Matter To You and Hypochondriac).

[–] zitronenschnitte@feddit.org 4 points 1 month ago

Amazing thread! A few I have not yet seen mentioned:

  • Charlotte Wessels (pop, metal-ish, former singer of metal band Delain, but now goes solo)
  • Seraina Telli (hard rock I would say)
  • Visions of Atlantis (pirate metal)
  • Exit Eden (metal covers of pop songs and original songs)
  • My Indigo (pop music, solo project of Sharon den Adel, singer and founder of Within Temptation)
  • Suzane (french pop)
  • Anneke Van Giersbergen (pop, rock)
[–] QuinnyCoded@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

VIAL is good :)

edit: actually i think one of the three members is non binary, but I highly recommend it anyways!!
