None of this is in the source code. It’s downloaded at runtime from a file nobody has ever looked at.

diabolical, thanks for all your work with this

[–] NotSteve_@lemmy.ca 37 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Yeahhhh, that's pretty much malware at this point

[–] joeljoelle@piefed.blahaj.zone 18 points 5 days ago

absolutely is, true! they can change that file at any time to include anything they wanted

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@piefed.world 36 points 5 days ago (4 children)

I looked at the block list and I’m not in it.

I think my conservative community gets filtered out though.

[–] velma@sh.itjust.works 49 points 5 days ago (1 children)

They didn't block SatansMaggotyCumFart? Maybe your name is "straight" enough for them hahahaha

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@piefed.world 42 points 5 days ago (4 children)

I think it’s mostly because I’m known for well-thought out contributions to the communities I post in.

Take my upvote, you deserve it for the sheer gall of this one.

[–] DarkSirrush@piefed.ca 11 points 5 days ago (6 children)

I am very glad my coworkers can't hear me laugh, would not want to explain why I laughed at this.

That's true, though I don't expect bigots to take the time to think through many things like that lol

Face it laddie, you’re part of the woke mob now.

I ain’t woke I sleep.

[–] Flax_vert@feddit.uk 5 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Is this that cesspit of a community which is basically just squatting the name out of petty spite

[–] Dadifer@lemmy.world 5 points 5 days ago (1 children)
[–] Flax_vert@feddit.uk 6 points 5 days ago (4 children)

I think I got banned from there

Some megamod mass banned me from a bunch of random communities which is annoying, basically reddit behaviour

[–] Dadifer@lemmy.world 5 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Or..... Tesseract behavior! Amirite?

[–] Flax_vert@feddit.uk 5 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Isn't tesseract a frontend for lemmy?

[–] Dadifer@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Apparently a private, racist one

[–] Flax_vert@feddit.uk 5 points 5 days ago (13 children)

I'm on the list!!! Does that mean I'm not racist?

I don't understand, what instance uses this? If they filter the listed words does that mean posts containing them won't show? That would make conversations on Lemmy incoherent with gaps and wipe out probably 50% of the content?

[–] commie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 5 days ago (1 children)

it's a frontend. like an app client, but used in a browser.

[–] HAL_9_TRILLION@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (1 children)

~~I'm still not clear <snip>~~

Edit: nevermind, I see now. This thread helped.

[–] SlurpingPus@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago

Any instance can run any number of UI frontends. E.g. Lemmy.world offers a choice of several of them. Afaiu one can also run a frontend on their own computer or server and connect to an instance.

Dbzero seems to use Tesseract, which is how they discovered the problem originally, and have since forked it to remove filtering.

[–] UpperBroccoli@feddit.org 19 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I can't even.

I am honestly not sure how to feel, discovering I somehow made it into that list.

[–] lena@gregtech.eu 10 points 5 days ago (1 children)

You should be proud, I'm a bit disappointed I'm not on the list

[–] Sciaphobia@sh.itjust.works 1 points 4 days ago

I'm not on there either but I also don't post a lot. I wonder if I would be if I did.

[–] imetators@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

I feel like I'm not in some super cool private group of people.

Let me in!

I made the list! I'm famous!

[–] Cris_Citrus@piefed.zip 7 points 4 days ago

This meme is a work of art. I love this comm so much lol

[–] kittenzrulz123@lemmy.dbzer0.com 15 points 5 days ago (1 children)

[–] TwiddleTwaddle@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 5 days ago (1 children)

At least one of your alts did. Sad that I didnt make it ☹️

[–] Dadifer@lemmy.world 17 points 5 days ago

What an asshole

[–] Flax_vert@feddit.uk 15 points 5 days ago

Lemmy people try not to censor people you disagree with challenge (impossible)

[–] chortle_tortle@mander.xyz 8 points 5 days ago

I can't believe I missed my chance at the mad mod ban list EGOT 😥

[–] DmMacniel@feddit.org 7 points 5 days ago (1 children)

well, Patrick sure lost A LOT of faithpoints with this shit.

[–] SeventySeven@sh.itjust.works 5 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

I wouldn't let him anywhere near an open-source project again, or even anything involving the Fediverse for that matter. His actions go against everything that FOSS/Fediverse/Lemmy stands for if you think about it. You can't be putting obfuscated code (which is nearly exactly how malware delivers its payloads to avoid detection via base64 encoding and offloaded via a C2 server) and reasonably expect people to trust you again. Nope! All it could take is for him to swap out the policy file for something malicious, and nobody would have caught it in time.

And the weird censorship stuff goes against Lemmy's and the Fediverse's ideology and principles as a whole. Like, why are you even here then? That type of thing is why many people left Reddit for Lemmy, to escape the censorship. Ironically, I left Reddit over API changes and not being able to use my favorite Reddit app (RiF), and now the same thing is almost happening all over again.. Except now the API changes straight up shadow ban people instead of blocking app access outright. It's just a different side of the same coin, really. Just stay on Reddit if you want to do this to people.

For someone to pull the same BS again in a place that is supposed to promote inclusiveness for LGBT and many other types of "left-wing" people is wild to me. Many people just want a place they can feel comfortable. Not a good look when things like "epstein" are filtered out. Yikes. The Fediverse needs to remain a free and open place for all.

I'm taking this as an achievement lol cause maybe I'm doing something right if someone is willing to go as far as to hardcode me into their petty little blocklist (that was manually typed out) just to silence me over insignificant things. It's kinda funny someone is this uptight and would even go to these lengths at all. I'm not that interesting, I promise you.

Edit: Fixed bad typos

[–] null@piefed.nullspace.lol 3 points 5 days ago

A lot of that domain list is real spam defence. It filters conservatism as well as communism. “It targets the left” doesn’t survive the data and I’m not going to pretend it does.

Based retraction. Credit where it's due. (Not that you can read this, ironically).
