The aura from the great helm cannot be matched.

[–] Phunter@lemmy.zip 24 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

If someone in a Great Helm declared "None shall pass!" I must take it seriously.

The hounskull on the other hand...

[–] Sanctus@anarchist.nexus 30 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Frog-mouth, both mysterious and otherworldly

[–] acockworkorange@mander.xyz 3 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

And unable to look down. Like, at all.

[–] Enkrod@feddit.org 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It's a pure tournament helmet for jousting, the peculiar design is to direct splinters away from the tiny opening that juuuuust let's you see your opponent.

Thats what the squire is for

[–] Airfried@piefed.social 21 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

The Sallet is generally paired with the most badass armors but if we're only going by helmet looks, I'd go with the Frog-Mouth. It hits different.

[–] dejected_warp_core@lemmy.world 10 points 2 weeks ago

I’d go with the Frog-Mouth. It hits different.

It also gets hit different.

[–] Mpatch@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago

Not gona lie seems awfully inconvenient in light rain shower.

"Oh my poor, poor valiant knight, tell me how did he parish. Like a lion fighting to his last breath? "

"Well you see my lady, there was this rain cloud. "

Obviously Hounskull! Breathing room, full head and neck protection, plus you look like a mechahound!

[–] turtlesareneat@piefed.ca 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Frog mouth! Frog mouth!

[–] P1k1e@lemmy.world 13 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

The Sallet just does it for me, not sure why

[–] Skyrmir@lemmy.world 11 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Because it's easier to breathe and more comfortable. It has less protection, but the majority of the time you're not being stabbed in the face.

Of course that one time you are being stabbed in the face, you're really going to have some regrets.

[–] MajorMajormajormajor@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 weeks ago

"What are you going to do, stab me?" - man who was stabbed in the face.

If I had to choose for combat I'd pick frog-mouth. The angle of the armor really matters so the crossbow bolts bounce off or need to penetrate a more steel for same weight.

Can't beat the chad aura of the great helm though. Best helm for looksmaxxing when you have a chill garrison position.

Spangenhelm.

[–] Zizzy@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 2 weeks ago

Frogmouth. Its so goofy and cute

[–] ToiletFlushShowerScream@piefed.world 9 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

How do you even see out of most of these? Doesn't an attacker just have to jauntily skip behind the helmet wearer and become effectively invisible?

[–] brad_troika@lemmy.world 15 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

Not very well but the closer a hole is to your eyes the more you can see out. ~~Breeding~~ Breathing holes on the mouth and nose can also help you see downwards. I think most medieval battles were fought in formations, your enemies were in front of you, if someone was allowed to "skip back behind you" something already went really wrong.

Not very well if Kingdom Come Deliverance has taught me anything.

[–] ElReatonVaquer0@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago

"Jesus Christ be praised!"

Me anytime I actually manage to hit my oponent

And where I learned Cumins are not what makes Mexican food amazing.

[–] Wrufieotnak@feddit.org 9 points 2 weeks ago

Always Great Helmet! Since I first saw it in Age of Empires 2 on the Teutonic knights.

But the variety makes them interesting.

[–] carldiortus@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

I have worn exactly half of these, and since I not that great at tournaments, I can say that KettleHat is the most fun for audience, you will definitely hear every bang like a church bell. The first is quite comfy (never heard of this name though). GreatHelm / Armet / Hounskull - damn bro, you can't see shit in those while having trouble breathing, and all that for the trade of security :/, no like, feels like you are just a target in the field. Your Bascinet here is extreemely open, it's a good helmet, but I would like to have some more face cover. Sallet, wore it once, many years ago, memories are fairly good.

Great helm, it's a great helm, it's in the name, what more is there to say?

[–] Valmond@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 2 weeks ago

Kettle Hat, you can make soup in it if needed.

[–] Malyca@lemmy.zip 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)
[–] sangriaferret@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 weeks ago

Looks downright evil. Sign me up.

[–] ExLisper@lemmy.curiana.net 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

What are the pros and cons of each one of those?

[–] tocopherol@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 weeks ago

The frog-mouth was for jousting primarily, visibility was very poor. I would go with the sallet or kettlehelm because they had better visibility and the flared bottom helps protect from archers or slingers.

[–] ramius345@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

The kettle hat will probably give the best compromise of safety and battlefield visibility. Id imagine it's what a normal foot soilder would wear.

Hounskull has you looking like Sam the Eagle

[–] Zombie@feddit.uk 5 points 2 weeks ago

Only helms with facial hair are worthy.

[–] JargonWagon@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

Lemme at em with the Hounskull, I'll peck put their eyes!

Nah but fr, Bascinet for me, I like to keep it casual.

[–] username_1@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 2 weeks ago

Some guy near the shore: I will drink from your skull!

[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

What kind of question is this? Obviously the right answer is sallet

[–] PotatoPie@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 weeks ago

Spanghelm just looks menacing as is, i don't care if my nose will be caved in

[–] Derpenheim@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 weeks ago

Hounskull is the goat. Literally every angle is impossible to penetrate a blade into

[–] buttmasterflex@piefed.social 3 points 2 weeks ago

The armet just gives classic pop culture knight vibes for me

[–] inb4_FoundTheVegan@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

I'd look cool af when I wear none of these in battle.

I'd die immediately of course, but everyone would agree I'm the flyest corpse.
