I was bored during his nap and he's OBSESSED with planes, so I figured I'd be productive.

I'm unhappy with the forward fuselage, but other than that it honestly looks pretty good from most angles. I have a strange love of working with cardboard, it's tons of fun as a structural material for cat trees and stuff like that

Sick plane.

You ever take it off sweet jumps?

[–] sneekee_snek_17@lemmy.world 18 points 6 days ago

My kid chucked it across the kitchen, that count?

I asked a 797F haul truck driver that once lol.

I told one that his truck couldn’t haul his mom.

I prefer sick jumps.

Guys, this is actually a Boeing mockup for their next plane. (Notice the lack of hinged doors.)

That's a mighty fine building material. Looks like that's probably 200# Mullen test C-flute corrugated fiberboard!

All I know is that it has survived an afternoon with the human hurricane largely unscathed, which i find to be very impressive

Costco doesn't skimp on cardboard, apparently

Have you seen those little cardboard jig saws that are safe for kids? They're like a little table saw set up but instead of spinning the 'blade' moves up and down.

If you guys make a lot of stuff like this together, you should consider one. They look fun.

I just checked and they are pricey - maybe you can find a knock off or a second hand one.

Those usually use a nibbler attachment on a drill which will have s little guard over it so it doesn't nibble you. No blades to say, more like a tiny shear.

They're meant for thin sheet metal so they're pretty strong and not completely devoid of danger, but you can add guards and make it so.

They're pretty cool for the kiddos and crafting!

Here's a super over complicated version to understand the concept.

Or can just like get one of these and a drill with a zip tie. Poke thst through a nice solid topped box and cut away.

this thing

Have fun!

Oh is that what they are? I did HVAC for a few months when the enviro field was slow. Saw them and thought they were the damnedest things.

[–] sneekee_snek_17@lemmy.world 3 points 6 days ago

I've never heard of that, have to keep an eye out, thanks!

A $200 laser cutter will cut cardboard, you could make all sorts of things. You could use Inkscape to design the parts. They'll also engrave details, like printing.

I see them listed for $100, but I don't know where you are.

Or, a 36 cent razor from home depot

I prefer that because there's no learning curve
