If you find a comic without any such markings, it would be a good idea to see if you can find an original version. If one cannot be found, say so and ask the community for help!

Jesus. The immense tonal shift from his usual comics made this even darker.
It's ok guys, cats aren't actually like this. They are absolutely brutal monsters that torture their victims for entertainment and staying sharp, even the really really sweet ones
And theyβre so fluffy and cute.
AFAIK t's not "for entertainment", it's to tire them out so they would be easier to eat without getting hurt.
One of ours woke me up several times last night, looking for cuddles. So, yeah, what you wrote rings true here.

I remember once py cat was playing with a mouse, my game came by, killed it, then dropped it.
Shit dogs are just as bad. My parents raised Rotties. A cat jumped on our back fence. The female jumped up grabbed it and they played tug o war with it. 16 yr old me was to high for that shit I tell you what.
Wasn't funny, but funny in the "man, animals are fucking vicious...Jesus fucking christ." Type of funny. You never really get to see our lovable pets be the beasts that they truly are.

Not so fun fact. That's exactly why dogs like squeaky and crinkley toys. It mimics the sounds of their prey squealing as their bones shatter.
I have had a cat torture me for a decade by shitting and pissing on the floor. absolutely refuses to use a litter box. tried everything. new litter, new box, low box, high box, covered box, automatic box, anxiety misters, new room, new bed, new food, special water, vet appointments. I even put it in a crate with a litter box overnight. shit and piss all over itself, litter box untouched.
I've wanted to punt that cunt outside for years but the family always outvotes me. I refuse to clean up the shit, but I still have to smell it.

My present cat lost her mom early and also likes to keep her feet clean. She uses the litterbox but then tiptoes out and scratches the wall, leaving her poop proudly atop the litter or her pee puddle visible. On the plus side she doesn't track litter dust in the house.
That's not the emotions I wanted to feel right now.
Don't worry! Her mouse friend is just pretending to be dead and they'll have some cheese afterwards.
