I'm not sure if this is a commentary on trans rights or bad movies.

[-] jerk_splerkin@lemmy.world 6 points 5 days ago

I thought they were insulting the Rock’s soccer skills.

[-] Krudler@lemmy.world 14 points 6 days ago

I just don't understand the thrust of this... Do you hate the rock or do you hate middle school girls soccer??

[-] agamemnonymous@sh.itjust.works 2 points 5 days ago

I assume they hate the panic around trans women on women's sports teams

[-] IWW4@lemmy.zip 2 points 4 days ago

What on earth?

Why do you care about Dwayne Johnson so much? I treat him and his products like naval lint.

[-] Atomic@sh.itjust.works 10 points 6 days ago

It's really easy to not care when it doesn't involve you in any way shape or form. So, what is it you're trying to say?

That you dont want to watch football with the rock vs school girls? Ok, good for you i guess?

[-] elevenbones@sh.itjust.works 1 points 5 days ago

Yeah idk either 🤷‍♀️

Instead of 'Air Bud' -> 'Ground Rock'

[-] Leviathan@fedinsfw.app 7 points 6 days ago

I would care as in I'd love to watch the match. Outside of that I don't give a fuck who plays what sport or what they have in their pants.

[-] tortina_original@lemmy.world 6 points 6 days ago

And this only says something about you, not about girls' soccer team or Rock.

What is the point of this post, exactly? Feeling special today?

I'm sure that movie has already been made. Maybe it starred Vin Diesel rather than Rock "The Dwayne" Johnson?

I get what you're saying, and to a degree I agree with it.

It's not that I don't care, it's that I don't want to care. I don't want to care about what genders people (in general) go by, and would rather be polite to individuals I come across by referring to them the way they ask (in the same way I refer to people who go by a shortened name or their middle name). I have not cared about high school girls sports and won't until my daughter reaches high school... or rather, I have wanted not to. It's a tiny fraction of a tiny fraction of a tiny fraction of the population, and I want their existence to not register with me until I come across them organically (e.g. a trans girl on my daughter's cross country team). I want to not know about neo-pronouns without either taking a gender studies class or meeting someone who uses them (which I have yet to in 43 years). Or if there is a trans character or one who uses neo-pronouns in a game that just is that without that being their whole character (e.g. Krem from Dragon Age Inquisition). I want those people to just exist in the world without me giving any more concern to their sense of identity or whatever as any other of the 10 billion people on the planet I don't know and don't give a shit about except they are humans and I want them to be well.

I WANT to not care, but I'm not being let to because people feel the need to pick on them, make laws against them existing, or deny them equal opportunities for spurious reasons. And every time a conservative type complains about everything trans related and having to deal with pronouns and everything else, I'm like "it's because of you! You're doing this! I wouldn't have to be concerned with them beyond knowing they exist if it weren't for you!"

I don't want to sound callous, because I do care about how LGBTQ+ people are treated. And I wish I didn't because they just existed without me having to care.

Edit: I also think people are misunderstanding your point. Like I said, I never cared about girls high school sports, so when some conservative speaking against trans girls on girls soccer teams offering some hyperbole of The Rock (or comparable AMAB player) on a girls soccer team to suggest the supposed absurdity of having a trans girl on the team, you couldn't pay me to care (about that argument). Even if it were to be the case, which it never, ever, ever is.

Thank you for this generous-minded clarification.

[-] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 3 points 6 days ago

Basically the plot of the movie Big Momma's House (2000) or Mr Nanny (1993)

Wait til you hear about Junior (1994) starring Arnold Swarzenegger.

[-] Anivia@feddit.org 3 points 6 days ago

I would not be surprised if those middle school girls play better soccer than him. His amount of muscle mass is terrible for athleticism, which is why there are no professional soccer players that are muscular

[-] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 0 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

But this shatters my delusion of manly men being objectively superior to every other human!

[-] NepGinger@lemy.nl 2 points 6 days ago

Give a shit about.. The Rock, the girls, soccer, middle school... teams? Help me out here.

[-] Leviathan@fedinsfw.app 5 points 6 days ago

They're saying that they care so little about whether trans girls are playing sports with other girls that you couldn't pay them to give a shit even if a giant cis man was on the team.

[-] HubertManne@piefed.social 1 points 6 days ago

I mean I would. Can't imagine the situation outside of some comedy setup though.

[-] klankin@piefed.ca 1 points 6 days ago

Fr fr, we were all thinking it

If someone put Dwayne The Rock Johnson on a middle school girls' soccer team, I think I would be curious about why no matter how stupid the reason. That would be a wild thing to happen.

[-] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 12 points 6 days ago

It's supposed to be commentary on trans in sports or something.

[-] StaticFalconar@lemmy.world 5 points 6 days ago

Ohhhh, now i get it. I was on the same ride for random weird shit.

But for reals hyperbolic much? The rock in a team with other middle school boys would still be as much out of place. That's not a gender thing.

[-] BooBees@fedinsfw.app 8 points 6 days ago

If it was a movie I’d just think it’s yet another boring shitty movie made to get some already wealthy producers and Hollywood executives another vacation home.

[-] RFKJrsBrainworm@sh.itjust.works 3 points 6 days ago

The Disney movie would be great

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.
