How do you like those beans? Any other bean recommendations for cold brew specifically?
No complaints. I mainly get them cause it's a cheap dark roast. To me I like the darkest roast possible for all of my coffee, I really like the deep nutty flavor I get. But to be honest I've never tried a lighter roast in my cold brew. I'd say whatever beans you like normally would be a good starting point for cold brew.
Holy moly, just looked up half and half and it's basically drinking joghurt levels of fat, is that right?
Thickkkshake.
Haha I guess? I never even looked at the nutrition facts, I just like a little smoothness to my drink.
That leopard looks fuckin WIRED
The spice must flow.
He can smell colors
Other than the equipment used I'm doing the same thing! Even the same brand of costco beans.
What equipment do you use? I've been making cold brew for nearly 7 years now and have tried a few different methods.
I really like the cold brew setups that have a drain hole at the bottom. I use a reusable cotton bag that makes filtering and cleanup a bit easier.
I do 10 or 12 ounces of coffee (a whole regular bag or a quarter of the big bag) into about a liter of water and let it sit for 18-36 hours. I dilute it with about three parts water, my partner drinks it about half and half with creamer.
That sounds about the same ratios I use, makes a solid concentrate.
How long does it last you?
And yeah the drain hole on the cold brew maker helps tons. I used to use a "coffee sock" and had to hold the bag up by hand for a while or hang it from the cupboard. Not ideal!
The liter of concentrate lasts us about a week to ten days. It definitely tastes better/fresher the first day or two, but not enough to bother making smaller batches.
i used an oxo cold brewer for a couple years. solid item, no complaints
It's legit for sure. I used to use the "coffee sock" but larger batches were troublesome. Also used to hand grind, but grinding nearly 300g by hand gets tiring lol.
No regrets with either the oxo cold brew maker nor the oxo burr grinder. A bit pricey but well worth it.
How is the burr grinder? I have a Cuisinart DBM-8P1 and it produces almost as much ultra-fine grind as it does coarse-grind thus completely defeating the purpose.
It's really good. On max course it's all really chunky with just a little bit of fines. It does create a shit load of static though so I mist the beans with water before grinding.
How's the Kirkland? I get Colectivo from Costco and I make cold brew with it, no complaints with it.
It's dark and cheap! Tastes good enough too. Hard to beat 3lbs @$20
