And before anyone says he was impeached for it, no. He was asked by congress if he had sexual relations with Monica. He said no. Evidence was revealed he had atleast a blow job, based on the stain on her blue dress. He was impeached for lying to congress and won basically by claiming a blow job wasn't "sexual relations".
He was impeached because the GOP wanted to impeach him, no other reason necessary. The investigation started as a look into the Clinton's finances before pivoting to the affair after their operatives caught wind of it. Even the charge of lying to Congress (which failed because he'd asked them to define sexual relations and used that definition when stating he hadn't) was a last-ditch attempt to get him on anything they could after repeatedly failing for years.
They later repeated the tactic with the Benghazi/private email server "scandals" to discredit Hillary Clinton.

My biggest tinfoil hat take is that the fent was put there on purpose to punish drug culture, as the public discovered that many drugs that are scheduled aren't really as harmful or addictive as we're told when done in moderation, and they hated that they were losing control of the narrative that the police state is for your own protection.
So they decided to poison dissenters so they could say "See? Told you so." I don't think they quite realized how many opioid soccer moms were trying to cope at that point, but I wouldn't expect much competence from a government that was willing to purge their own citizens for the crime of "going to a rave occasionally".

Xennial here. Every time I eke out some sort of stability, the world takes it away. About to likely lose my job which would also end with losing my house and the ability to get another one. Nothing hiring in my industry in the area, no one wants a remote backend engineer in Japanese timezones, and I'm very much done.
If I live through this, I get the bonus of basically having no real retirement options at all, either.
At least we're the smartest generation!

Depending on the exact setup, it does not have to be. Assuming it's in stocks or a stock fund, you can always hedge it against downturns with options. Of course I do absolutely recommend really understanding that first before using it, as you can also gamble and lose money faster. But when you do, contracts exist that allow you to 'configure' a portfolio that, temporarily, will cancel out any market drops. Barring ethical reservations, of course. Naturally, that also carrries the risk that the bank selling the contract goes tits up, but it seems you're already in that boat. To manage that, you can aim for diversification across multiple banks and instruments. Not an advertisement or anything, but since covid I've found directly owned old-school crypto to be a good hedge in rough times (but need to get in low and work in the 2-5year timeframe). But for the love of god, leave out all emotions, calculate with a spreadsheet and don't put all eggs in one basket.
I'm not any kind of advisor, just got pissed about the shit economic situations we lived through and looked into what can be done about it.

That was my impression as well, but we also really shouldn't underestimate the remaining percentage of unpatched software, especially for embedded software.
We are building hardware with software included right now, which will still be on roads, in doctor's offices, broadcast stations, manufacturing lines, water pumps etc. in 2038.
And I can guarantee you that some of the hardware manufacturers will cheap out and put in too little memory for a larger clock.

In order to be able to reference times prior to the epoch. If you made the system clock unsigned, all that math would still break if you did calculations against it after the final bit flipped.
At the time all this was standardized, no one knew we'd ever have gigabytes of RAM, terabytes of storage, etc. 32 bits for a clock was already expensive and they figured we wouldn't be using any of this software by 2038.
64bit wasn't widely adopted when they had to fix the previous datetime crisis. The permanent solution is to upgrade your system to use x64 signed dates. Many systems are already starting to account for this
As the article mentions, the biggest problem will be embedded systems that get forgotten about and never get updated… many many things will break at that time, unexpectedly, and in subtle ways. As a normal consumer, your up-to-date devices like mobile phone and laptop should^TM^ be unaffected.
Doesn't need to be 64 bit to be unsigned... And the system clock generally only goes up, so no need to represent system time as earlier than 1970...
