They have to be there at 8am, sometimes even 7 in some cities. Also, babies keep you awake all night.

Wait until this guy learns about having a job

[-] destructdisc@lemmy.world 21 points 6 days ago

Ah, the joys of having a flexible work schedule...

[-] Fallibilist@feddit.uk 24 points 6 days ago

I too have flexible work schedule but I don't feel like working untill 7pm which is why I wake up at 6am.

[-] nomy@lemmy.zip 10 points 6 days ago

Yeah I can flex all the time I want but I still have to hit my 40hrs and fuck working in the evenings. I'd rather just get up and do it so I can get on with the rest of my life so 6am it is.

8AM? You’re not the kid, you’re getting 6AM so you can get that kid(s) dressed, fed, washed, etc.

[-] PonyOfWar@pawb.social 60 points 6 days ago

8AM? School must start very late where you live. Classes started at 7:45 for me, so wakeup time would've been more like 6:30.

[-] PineRune@lemmy.world 17 points 6 days ago

My bus arrived at 6:15am. We had to get up even earlier here.

Same for high school. I was one of the furthest-out kids so we started super early. I would later be in an AP class that required I get to school on my own by class start at 07:15. We finished at 14:30, but those of us in band kept going for a while. Then any other clubs/activities. When I did theater, I'd get to school around 7am and not leave until 11-12 hours later.

[-] ExLisper@lemmy.curiana.net 10 points 6 days ago

At that point, why even go to sleep?

[-] icanbrewmushrooms@lemmy.world 5 points 6 days ago

Really? Where do you live? In the UK schools run from 9am-3.30pm.

[-] PonyOfWar@pawb.social 9 points 6 days ago

Germany. Started at 7:45 and ended anywhere from 1PM to 4PM.

Worst I've had in Germany was 7:50 AM to 5:30 PM, that was fun.

G8 was a great idea with no drawbacks whatsoever.

Where I grew up in the States, the elementary, middle schools and high schools shared a transportation department. Because of this school start times were staggered as buses would pick up highschool students and drop off at school, then make runs to pick up the elementary and middle schools, again staggering to accommodate different start times.

This meant that students at any of the schools could get dropped off anywhere from 25 minutes early to just before classes started (from 7:30-9:00am.) The end of the day was also staggered, with school getting out between 2:30-3:30.

[-] HubertManne@piefed.social 18 points 5 days ago

this one falls flat. most people have to wake up before 8 to go to work regardless of marital status or kids.

[-] AndyMFK@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 4 days ago

Not on the weekend. I get 2 sleep-ins a week and I wouldn't trade them for anything

[-] HubertManne@piefed.social 2 points 4 days ago

now see the weekend is a fair point because the typical person does usually have those. The OP though is a bit niche. Granted if your childless with a dog your sleep in time will still be limited. Although you can't take care of kids for 10 mins and then go back to sleep for two hours.

This lol Ive been getting up at 5 since I was 18 and at this point (unless ive like stayed up until 2 for some reason) my body wakes me up at 4:50 every day, work day or no. I'm just used to it 🤷‍♂️

[-] HubertManne@piefed.social 1 points 4 days ago

im in a bit of no mans land. im a late nighter by nature but yeah the work world has had me up early (um for me 6am is the ealiest I can handle) but when away from it I slowly over time go back to my nature but it does take awhile.

My wife and I wake up at ~6:30am to get our daughter on her bus. We are not morning people, in fact we are quite emphatically night people. Left to our own devices, we will sleep more like 1am-9am. We knew this when we had our kid, and we figured that our circadian rhythms would naturally adjust to the baby's.

They did not. It's been six years since I had what felt to me like a "normal" sleep schedule.

I love my daughter, she's my reason for living, I wouldn't trade her for anything, not by a long shot.

But nobody should fuck around with parenting, and nobody should have to be convinced to do it, let alone coerced. The very idea of someone doing this without 100% wanting to do it sounds like just about the worst kind of hell I can imagine, for both parent and offspring.

[-] LodeMike@lemmy.today 11 points 6 days ago

8AM is late. 6 or 5 is typical.

[-] Ydna@lemmy.world 12 points 6 days ago

Bruh my cats are basically alarm clocks in the morning 😹

[-] impairedimperator@lemmy.zip 4 points 6 days ago

Heh, my cat does the same to my parents when they visit.

Not to me though. My cat knows I ain't gonna get up and feed him until I'm awake. He will wait patiently and judge silently. Loud meowing only works on my parents.

[-] destructdisc@lemmy.world 3 points 6 days ago

Omg SAME. We taught ours to talk (using buttons) and she's such an absolute unhinged menace in the mornings

[-] dkppunk@piefed.social 11 points 6 days ago

Jokes on you! I wake up at 5am already and 4am if I’m going fishing.

But that’s just me getting up, I don’t have kids or anyone else to get moving in the morning.

Maybe it’s jokes on me 🤷‍♀️

[-] Eq0@literature.cafe 10 points 6 days ago

LoL, you think it’s 8am! Here school starts at 8:30, and kids need a stupidly long time to get ready! Our usual wake up time is 7:15am, but it is not too uncommon that our kid wakes us up just before the alarm.

[-] fodor@lemmy.zip 2 points 4 days ago

As you get older you'll probably start waking up earlier anyway. Sorry. Good luck with that.

[-] BradleyUffner@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago

What scares me the most about having kids is that I would have kids.

[-] ExLisper@lemmy.curiana.net 6 points 6 days ago

12-15 years of helping them go to school, then 10 years of helping them avoid terrible life choices when they are most prone to making them and least likely to listen to you, then 5-10 years of worrying about their career and finances and then you can finally start everything again with your grandchildren. Yay!

[-] makeshift0546@lemmy.today 6 points 6 days ago

Avoiding god’s toughest battles guys 😂

[-] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 4 points 6 days ago

I did that (breakfast, going to school) by myself since I was like 5

[-] djdarren@piefed.social 3 points 6 days ago

I'm not childfree, I have a kid, but he's 22 and no longer lives with me.

But the thing is, I'm consistently woken earlier by my fucking cat than I ever was by my kid when he was little.
