Those are called Rockets here in Canada.
The nestle corporation has a chokehold on nonamerocans, who seem to think smarties are chocolate. Theyve always been delightfully chalky little sugar circles to us.
Them and necco wafers are my favorite candies.

Rockets taste better than (US) Smarties too. Try them back-to-back in a blind taste test if you ever get a chance and judge for yourself.
The funny thing is, some of the US candies are made in Canada, and you can taste the difference between them and the US-made ones.
Source: grew up in the US, but dated a Canadian in the 00's. I preferred Rockets so much that I'd buy them from Canada to eat when I got back to the US. That, and maple candy. And All Dressed chips.

Smarties are a different candy in other countries. More of an M&M, candy coated chocolate.
Crucially though, peanut free. So, very popular for elementary schools around Halloween, where M&Ms are not allowed. Also, lots of places would hand out Smarties instead because it’s more accessible.

Truth be told, I buy Smarties as well. Now as far as butterscotch, I do not buy that mess. Not for me. Haha, that type of treat on Halloween would be a curse.
I understand having a preference, but here and elsewhere people act like a certain type of candy is poison if it's not their favorite. Like, relax. Some of these old-ass candies just continue on via momentum and they're fine. Except wax candy. That Legally Edible Product®️ shit should be banned simply to limit the disappointment of children...
I'm pretty sure the point of those little wax bottles has never been to be "candy," but rather to be sensory stimulation for kids too old to put random objects in their mouths.
Perhaps, but I think the different varieties all call themselves candy, or at least are sold in that section alongside candy. And the lips/fangs/mustaches are even worse! It's flavored, but you're not supposed to eat it, but it's food-grade, but you're only supposed to chew it, but your body can't even digest it... Again, no matter what you call it, the absolute worst type of "candy".
