The new UI is fine for me, but it's also nice to see they kept the nova.enabled flag after the update for those who don't want it.
The best change for me was moving compact tabs from an about:config flag to an actual setting. Was using that before and it's nice to see it's not going away after all.

You used to actually be able to theme Firefox, is this returning? All you have now are crummy backgrounds to clutter the visually bland buttons and menus.
Edit: this was meant as a reply to the post linking to their blog. And it looks like the answer is ”no, eat your porridge”.
People still write full ui CSS overhaul sorts of themes, does that not count...?
Mozilla has made Firefox just as unstable as Chrome. There was literally no justification to making the UI change. I was fine even when they pushed out the quantum release and we were stuck with Photon for a bit.
Honestly could care less about these constant changes that serve no real purpose. It's just a gimmick.
I have a theory that jarring UI changes are done as a way to measure user engagement with different browser/program/OS functions and even start analyzing someone's mental state if paired with fingerprinting data. I know that's incredibly paranoid yes, but it is logically possible.
I don't even want to leave this comment. Fediverse gets scraped by big tech the same as everything else. Can't stand this modern hellscape.

Speaking as someone who's colorblind, I rely heavily on shapes, straight borders, and strongly contrasting colors to be able to tell the difference between objects and the boundaries between objects.
Nice that Firefox is throwing all colorblind people under the bus(~5% of the population) in the same way Apple has been doing for years.
It looks a little sloppy.
Nova looks incredibly dated, horrible design.
For years Firefox was very stable, unchanging. Now after every update I have to figure out what to roll back. It's becoming less worth it.
Unfortunately that means I'm looking at LibreWolf or Brave.

You can use Firefox ESR, the extended support release which receives security updates but doesn't receive feature updates or other major changes.

Damn, I can't believe 115 is still being maintained for 6 more months.
Librewolf is based on the main release of firefox, and will probably inherit all the UI changes as Mozilla releases them.
Not sure why people get so attached to how things used to be.
I run nightly, its fun to get all the new stuff early. Fwiw I do it on my work machine. Never been an issue with usability.

Muscle memory. It took me about a year to retrain how to open a new tab on Firefox for Android last time they moved things around for no good reason.
I'm colorblind.
Do you think it's necessary for me to have a bunch of rounded corners and colors that prevent me from telling the clear borders between anything but the active tab in the interface?
It really felt like Mozilla threw me under the bus with this new interface. Should I "just deal" and accept it even though it makes it ten times as hard to do even really simple browsing?
Ill put in a ticket with Mozilla to bring back Firefox 1.0 UI for you.

Sorry bro, i guess support.mozilla.org blocks VPNs, so I cant file a ticket. Unfortunate. But just know I really wanted to get back the contrastiest contrast and sharpest corners possible for you. Hopefully one day Mozilla lifts the VPN ban so I can put that ticket in.
Good luck with the rounder corners and custom color themes in the meantime. ❤
