This is a facebook bs repost. There are no articles from 'authorities' encouraging anyone to eat the moths.

Remember, everything we see on the Internet is totally true. If we find out otherwise, we need to shout it from the mountaintops rather than just rolling out eyes and moving on

[-] alexquiniou@lemmy.zip 7 points 4 days ago

The world is a shitpost. Hard to find the truth today.

[-] YoFrodo@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

Sir, a lot of ppl in these comments seem to have missed that. Just providing context that it is, in fact, not true

[-] Cypher@aussie.zone 74 points 5 days ago

The Ngunnawal people came to Canberra specifically to harvest Bogong moths during the migration as they are a valuable source of protein and fats.

All the people here having a crack at Australian cuisine don’t have a clue. These moths are quite tasty.

This is only like one degree away from the protein bars in snowpiercer

[-] hopesdead@startrek.website 7 points 5 days ago

Wheren’t those actual humans?

[-] Meatwagon@piefed.blahaj.zone 1 points 2 days ago

It was roaches.

Which doesn't sound healthy since a lot of people are allergic to roaches.

[-] FistingEnthusiast@lemmy.world 18 points 5 days ago

You're thinking of Soylent Green

[-] artichokecustard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 23 points 5 days ago

in the book it's people, in the movie it's bugs

[-] FishFace@piefed.social 5 points 4 days ago

That explains why they announced it with such horror. I never really understood that.

Is this a recession signal?

[-] 666dollarfootlong@lemmy.world 13 points 4 days ago

I've eaten thai-style fried crickets, they really weren't that bad. I think you just have to turst that they indeed are edible, so its easier to think of them as food rather than bugs

[-] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 2 points 3 days ago

"really weren't that bad" is not the recommendation you think it is.

[-] 666dollarfootlong@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

Yea i get it. But like i'd rather eat them bugs than olives, for example, thats just how I feel

The big problem with eating fried insects is that you need to rinse your mouth with something or the bits stay around. Flour made from insects may be better, but it is 5-10 as much cost, and since it is mostly proteins you would need special recipes for it, I guess.
Most insects probably have similar mouth feel issues.

[-] quadrant5835@lemmy.zip 1 points 3 days ago

Is it not customary to have a drink with your meals?

[-] maxthemummer@lemmus.org 5 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

The words "insects" and "mouth feel" do not belong in the same sentence.

[-] ExLisper@lemmy.curiana.net 3 points 4 days ago

This guy insects!

[-] spacegoat@lemmy.world 8 points 4 days ago

I know this is privileged but if it comes down to needing to eat insects, just put me down.

[-] undefined@lemmy.hogru.ch 6 points 4 days ago

I went from being a typical omnivore to vegan within the span of a week and it was the easiest thing I’ve ever done in my life. So when I see people resorting to eating insects it’s really bewildering to me. Like, you’d rather eat bugs than just eat plants?

Has anyone ever said "Hey babe let's go to the Australian restaurant tonight"

I don't think Australians even say that.

[-] Technus@lemmy.zip 16 points 5 days ago

I'm guessing Outback Steakhouse doesn't really count lol

[-] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 1 points 3 days ago

They opened during that dumb Australia fad after Crocodile Dundee was such a big hit, then they were stuck with that lame theme when the fad died.

Lord of the Fries is pretty awesome for a fast food place. Good prices, tasty burgers and hot dogs, 100% vegan.
