Donald Trump is ramping up his efforts to use taxpayer money and resources to help Republicans win the 2026 midterm elections.

And it’s not at all subtle.

At last month’s Republican midterm convention, he severely pushed the envelope by promising every adult US citizen $5,000 if Republicans hold both the House and the Senate. That was already stunning — to offer voters money for a specific outcome. But Trump has only continued pushing the envelope since then.

Over the last 10 days, he has run more than a dozen different government-funded ads that are geared toward promoting himself and his supposed accomplishments.

Now the Medicare shit

[-] GutterRat42@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago

You mean the faux socialism they have warned us about all this year is coming from Republicans?

[-] Fowlplay@lemmy.zip 2 points 4 hours ago

Increased inflation, small payout for a long term interest payback, further devaluation of USD, illegal.

Also based on the amount of promises and current follow-though of said promised is zero. As well as his history of lying and stiffing contractors/ cities with rallies. I highly doubt this come to a fruition.

I got a random $50 on paypal yesterday from "President Trump's FTC" I guess because I had 1 free month of prime in like 2018. Since when has anything like that bothered putting the president's name on it? I couldn't even find anyone else talking about this online other than articles about the settlement specifying that some people will receive up to $200, and I expect every single payout will have that dipshit's name on it somewhere.

Even if he paid out 5K, that would not offset the cost of everything he's done. For the average household, it's estimated that he's cost thousands just in tariffs ~ $3500 so far. Let's say there are two adults in that household and they get 10K. Let's assume it's taxed 10% at federal level and state takes nothing, they'd get 9K.

They continue to pay tariffs the rest of his failed term and pay enormous cost of everything else thanks to inflation and his war with Iran. That 9K would easily be erased.

This isn't right v left. This is efforts to cheat vs efforts to keep the US healthy.

[-] TigerAce@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 11 hours ago

Even if he wins, he will never pay out the 5k. The guy only lies and tries to control people with promising money after he made them so poor and desperate they feel they have no choice but to hope for that money.

Dude made $2.4B in office but can't afford to pay for his own campaign ads...

[-] rollerbang@lemmy.world 6 points 10 hours ago

Won't pay for his own campaign ads... If he doesn't absolutely have to. After all, he's only a pardon away from the issue becoming a non-issue.

[-] cheat700000007@lemmy.world 2 points 9 hours ago

Ever look at his previous efforts? All he does is not pay for things

Saw a couple of these last night; he was ranting about “warmongers;” meanwhile, how many wars has this guy started?

[-] patruelis@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

Didn't he end wars before they started?

When President Donald Trump was reminded in an interview with Time magazine this week that he had said he would end the Russian war on Ukraine on “day one,” he claimed he hadn’t been speaking literally or seriously.

“Well, I said that figuratively, and I said that as an exaggeration, because to make a point, and you know, it gets, of course, by the fake news [unintelligible]. Obviously, people know that when I said that, it was said in jest, but it was also said that it will be ended,” Trump said, according to Time’s transcript.

This “in jest” claim is a lie.

On the campaign trail in 2023 and 2024, Trump said on dozens of occasions, in an entirely serious tone, manner and context, that he would end the war in Ukraine either within 24 hours of his return to the White House or even sooner than that. He said over and over again, including at both presidential debates of 2024, that he would have the war “settled” when he was president-elect, before his inauguration.

A Friday search of the Roll Call Factba.se database that catalogues Trump’s public remarks turned up at least 53 examples of Trump making such comments.

I believe the article was posted on Friday. Who nose. Just copied and pasted that section of the article.

[-] artyom@piefed.social 4 points 23 hours ago

I said that figuratively, and I said that as an exaggeration

LOL he's too stupid to even come up with some sort of political response to this. His official response is "LOL JK! And you know I was joking and damn you for saying otherwise!"

[-] fartographer@lemmy.world 1 points 20 hours ago

I guess the "dictator for a day on day 1" was exempted from the '/s'

[-] nightwatch_admin@lemmy.world 2 points 21 hours ago

Do you mean when he forced Biden to pull out of Afghanistan so the Taliban could Make Afghanistan Great Again?

[-] cerebralhawks@lemmy.dbzer0.com 28 points 1 day ago

Anyone even considering trying for the $5000 should ask themselves what happened to the $2000 in tariffs money, the $3000 DOGE refund, or the $1776 America 250 payout. (I might have mixed up the first two.) He already owes the American people so much.

Hey, remember that scene from Braveheart? I can't remember what exactly Mel Gibson said. He was making demands of some king. Part of it involving going to every home and apologising. Trump owes the American people at least that much. A true hat-in-hand apology at their front door. You'll never see it though.

[-] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 3 points 10 hours ago

Someone like donnie could never even get through one apology done in good faith.

[-] cerebralhawks@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 5 hours ago

I suppose, because it would require good faith.

[-] BigMacHole@thelemmy.club 13 points 1 day ago

I'm GLAD we have a President that HELPS the People with DIRECT Money Payments!

-People who would rather DIE then to live in a SOCIALIST HELLSCAPE!

[-] eddanja@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

Well, no one seems to be able to do anything about it so I guess this is the new reality.

[-] auzy1@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago

In his defense, he probably does think he's being super subtle.

Don't forget, this is a guy who brags about his IQ... And his dementia tests which he obviously took for fun

[-] OldChicoAle@lemmy.world 2 points 21 hours ago

He also just renewed his Elongated Muskrat subscription.

[-] PattyMcB@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

The people who will be bought don't understand how insulting it is for him to buy them, because they're stupid

By now he must've (correctly) deduced that his approval will never really go lower than ~30% because that 30% doesn't vote (or live) rationally. He quite literally took tens of thousands from both people who could barely afford it and those who could really not afford it - AND THEY WOULD STILL VOTE FOR HIM.

[-] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

He’s bribing them with pennies on every dollar he steals and they suck his ass and worship his tiny dick for it.

[-] deadbeef79000 3 points 1 day ago

Hey hey hey, he's one of the most evil people to walk the earth but not because of his tiny dick.
