In the continuing race to see who can throw transgender people under the bus most quickly, South Carolina Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate Annie Andrews has released a new direct-to-camera campaign ad in which she states that she does not support trans athletes playing in sports that affirm their gender identity.

SUPPORTING Trans people is a WINNING issue? Quick! THROW Trans people UNDER the Bus!

-LITERALLY Democrats!

[-] sun_is_ra@sh.itjust.works 16 points 2 weeks ago

Supporting trans people is a winning issue for Democrats but it's not for conservative Republicans.

This election specifically Democrats are hopeful they'd get votes from a large portion of traditionally Republican voters so they are pushing a bit on Trans to please Republicans but not too much that they lose their Democrat voters

That's not just this election. That's been every election in my memory. They cling to this strategy, even though it keeps failing.

Schumer bangs on about having an imaginary Republican couple in his head dictating his every action. If that isn't a big fuck you to the people who vote democrat I don't know what is.

Surely this time they'll want a watered down version of the thing they keep going harder on!

[-] CedricWhaley@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 week ago

Clinton rode third way into office and the party hasn't been able to move on since then.

[-] RaoulDuke25@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 week ago

It never works, buuuuut maybe this time will be the exception. -Dems

[-] Catoblepas@lemmy.blahaj.zone 29 points 2 weeks ago

Appealing to no one, you say? Can't see how this strategy could fail yet again!

But at the end of the day it doesn't matter. It's what they do on all of the "controversial issues" since the dawn of time. Biden and Obama both ramped up deportations and poured more into the border than anyone before them. What did it get them... all republican voters still believe they had "open borders".

‘Pushing a bit’

What a way to phrase it.

Every political ad I've heard this year has been about how wants to allow dangerous transes into your daughters bathroom and to push all the women out of their sports. I'm so fucking sick of it. Even if trans people were a problem (they're not) there's so few of them that we would have far bigger issues to focus on anyway. I doubt most of the people hyperventilating over this shit have ever even met a trans person.

[-] stoy@lemmy.zip 18 points 2 weeks ago

Even if trans people were a problem (they're not) there's so few of them that we would have far bigger issues to focus on anyway.

This is what is so insane to me, the trans "issue" (there is no issue, just treat them like people) is a nothibgburger.

There are sooooooo many more important issues, cost of living, healthcare, general safety, climate change, Russia, China and more, before ever comming close to speaking on trans policy.

And when it does come to speaking on trans policy, I would suggest not calling ut that, just make it a part of the general policy, people need healthcare, give it to them, a healthy people is a productive and happy people, some needs more/different care, others needs less, both benefits here.

I am no super mega awesome trans friend, but I don't see why I should hate some random people when they have done nothibg to me.

There is enough shit going on in the world, we don't need more hate.

[-] fonix232@fedia.io 8 points 2 weeks ago

It's all a distraction, and follows the recipe of ur-fascism: there has to be an enemy that is easily identifiable, easily targetable, and yet somehow poses insurmountable danger...

Conservatives don't have answers to help with any real problems, but they know the left will pull out the purity tests and turn into a circular firing squad over this and destroy themselves whole the bigots and fascists laugh all the way to the election booth.

She's a biological waste of space and a dumb cunt

Apparently the Democratic Party just decides their policy based on whatever republicans say it is. Fucking losers

Yes, let us again focus on stupid culture wars.

Men that want to harass women don't need to transition to do that. Wtf is the logic here? Men can already enter women's bathrooms. There's no force field and stops people to going in?

Also, do we think assaulters and rapists would want to transition? They're probably too transphobic to start.

[-] StupidBrotherInLaw@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

It sounds plausible enough for the portion of the American public who seem to be incapable of critical thought to blindly follow it. It's a 'gotcha' for imbeciles.

Such an obvious layup: If they do this disgusting shit to this cis woman, who's next? Do you want your daughters driven out of sports by genital exams? Personal privacy! Freedom!

Instead: hits self in head with hammer

[-] Archangel1313@lemmy.ca 17 points 2 weeks ago

I hope she loses her election.

[-] TRAHR@quokk.au 48 points 2 weeks ago

The alternative is sadly a Republican, which is even worse.

These people need to make their hate known before the midterms so they can be kicked out, now trans people are stuck waiting through 4 years of transphobic hate before they can try anything.

[-] Archangel1313@lemmy.ca 26 points 2 weeks ago

It's absolutely bizarre how easily Trump can just lead these assholes around by the nose.

[-] fluffykittycat@slrpnk.net 5 points 2 weeks ago

It started when he was more popular than them because nobody likes moderate Republicans and the party was kind of in the dumpster. It's persistent because he gained a strangle holder and can threaten the primary anyone. What the Republican Party even looks like after Trump dies of old age I have no clue. It's been the Trump party for years they have to reinvent themselves

[-] grue@lemmy.world 16 points 2 weeks ago

now trans people are stuck waiting through 4 years of transphobic hate

This election is to fill the vacancy left by Lindsay Graham (rot in piss), in case anybody was wondering like me why it wasn't six.

[-] daannii@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Some days I think. Do I just need to run for a political seat. I mean. For fucks sake.

Can we just get someone normal with baseline ethics ?

I don't want to go into politics.

It looks boring as hell and you have to listen to complaints all day and threats from corporate brats calling your office.

And the smear campaigns.

But I mean. Someone needs to do the job right.

Maybe someone who doesn't want to do it is the right person.

Idk.

Sometimes I just think about that.

I don't have any past b.s to be brought up. All my old nudie pics are from peak years. So even if someone shared those it would probably help me get elected not hurt me.

Idk. Sometimes I think maybe I should just try. My whole angle would be.

"I don't want this job. But y'all keep fuckin it up. So here we are."

Or

"Move aside. I'll fix it myself, fuckwits".

I have a cynical sense of humor. Some people might relate but Id probably piss a lot of people off.

I've been trying to tell all my friends how they need to run for local offices. Hell, half of those small positions aren't even opposed.

easy wins. Cushy state job.

Sit there and make it hard for people to get away with b.s. slow down the fascist. And help the progressives.

You can do that at any level of government if you play your cards right.

[-] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago

The alternative is sadly a Republican, which is even worse.

Harm reduction is when a liberal kills you politely.

now trans people are stuck waiting through 4 years of transphobic hate

The difference I've seen between cis-activists and trans-activists is that Trans people are done waiting.

I see more direct action in an LGBTQ aligned street corner than a No Kings parade.

Trans people will keep being trans. They'll keep helping each other transition. Fuck the law. Fuck the cops. And fuck any liberal fascist politician who tries to stop them.

No, I'm unconvinced. I think I'd rather have Nazis be blatant Nazis than liberals pretend they aren't Nazis while enabling Nazis.

Edit: vote blue no matter who doesn't fucking work. It has never worked. Just look at literally any time a leftist is running, and how the establishment is works to counter them at every turn. Vote blue no matter who has only ever been applied in one direction. I don't think democratic voters should continue to reward failure and betrayal.

No. Her winning is worse than the Republican winning, at least for trans people. This is an infection in the Democratic Party, and every TERF Democrat that wins spreads the infection even more.

Just imagine telling a black person they had to vote for someone that supports segregated drinking fountains, all in the name of "the greater good.'

I am so sick of this trans focus. They are a small part of the population that does zero harm, just leave them the fuck alone. They are not the source of even one of our very real fucking problems. Any politician that mentions them should be immediately forced to resign and be barred from any leadership position for life.

[-] alapakala@quokk.au 10 points 2 weeks ago

Democrat solidarity everyone.

[-] cogitase@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

The NCAA, the WNBA, etc. are private organizations. There aren't any state or federal government-operated sports associations that I know of. Democrats fighting in deep red states like this should just turn the limited government argument on their opponents.

[-] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 weeks ago

Blue no matter who! Otherwise you’re a Nazi!

[-] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

Unless, you know. The blue person is a Nazis.

Why is it centrist dems only adhere to “blue no matter who” when it’s other centrists dipshits who want to shit on our rights?

The right to be trans or cis or nonbinary, the right to be masculine or feminine or whatever mix you want to be is a fundamental right. And its absolutely justified to ask for representation that recognizes that.

In fact… not demanding that kind of recognition is the kind of thing Nazis go for.

[-] fonix232@fedia.io 7 points 2 weeks ago

I mean... she's probably still a better option than the conservacunt opponent. But I agree that there have to be better candidates and she should be immediately replaced.
