The title only mentions YouTube, Meta, and Twitch but the body of the article mentions that Kick, TikTok, and X (Formally Twitter) also. With Kick and TikTok saying that a livestream of an execution would violate their policies but with X (formally Twitter) being with YouTube, Meta, and Twitch in saying that they won't say whether they will or not.

When even Kick isn't supposedly gonna stream this, you know you are so far on the wrong side of history.

Twitch is a giant joke anyways, borderline softcore porn site. Their boobie streamers are not getting banned more than like 3 days, at worst, and that over and over and over again. No escalation whatsoever. No surprise, their old-ass CEO is a giant fucking pervert, that lusts over these young women.

And YouTube... their moderation is utter trash. There's so much "wet kitty asmr" that is simply not getting banned, even though it's entirely obvious to anyone what the fuck that is. Even the less extreme, but still heavily "pornographically charged" / horny / gooner-esque ASMR is simply not getting removed, either.

X... well, X is just a neonazi platform, not much more needs to be said.

Guys Im starting to think they dont care about the kids

[-] A_Random_Idiot@lemmy.world 23 points 1 day ago

they care about the kids.. just not in a good, healthy, moral way.

[-] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

These are the same types of people that would bring their kids to a lynching back in the day and have a nice family picnic. Put the kids up on their shoulders so they get a good view. Vendors will be there to sell food. Make a day of it, even get ice cream after.

I wish I was kidding and making this kind of scenario up.

[-] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Well, they want to scan your face in order to be able to unlock Roblox chat. You know, to "protect" your kids. And they seemingly keep inching toward a scenario where they have your computer account traceable back to you. You know, for your "protection".

But blasting filth like an execution out to everyone?

No worries.

Corporate social media endorsing and distributing the State’s public executions in contravention to its own content moderation policies is full circle, Capital F, textbook, Stage 5 Fascism with a big ‘ol Swastika spinning overhead with fireworks and the national anthem. (Also see points six, nine, and twelve.)

[-] Zephorah@discuss.online 19 points 1 day ago

Do they rework the algorithms, give it a special title using the word “unalive”, or just stick it in an ad space for the duration? Pretty sure the algorithms on these pages would bury the vid or auto ban the account unless they reworked some fundamental things on their sites.

[-] nullify3112@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

They’ll have AI recolor the blood into green and have confetti fly out of the wounds on impact lmao.

[-] fake@sh.itjust.works 1 points 10 hours ago

Throw in a wilhelm scream for good measure

[-] meat@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 1 day ago

They could allow the live stream on an official channel, but still censor the killing elsewhere.

[-] yestalgia@lemmy.world 22 points 1 day ago

I remember all the hand wringing in the govt decades ago about media violence and video game violence and violent lyrics because "what about the children!?"

And now the govt is going to publicly livestream an execution?

And how many right wing parents will justify this because "these are criminals and murderers who deserve it!"

Makes my head hurt.

Wonder if there will be age verification required since that's so en vogue now.

[-] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Reminds me of watching The God Who Wasn't There doc - all the bloodthirstiness of the people pretending to be for "family values" - including the guy that talks about putting homosexuals to death. Because Jesus.

He'll issue a completely unenforceable executive order demanding it be shown live in every classroom in America. Half of the schools in the country will comply.

[-] Witchfire@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

it's gonna traumatize the fuck out of every kid who watches it just like 9/11 and LiveLeak did, so honestly go ahead. I hope he slaps his name all over it too so they know who's responsible.

8th grade English class. I was in 8th grade English class.

3rd grade. I thought it was the beginning of some kind of an invasion and was terrified it'd be coming for us soon, even though this was really far west at the time.

A world of social media that created the word “unalive” to avoid triggering an algorithm that would bury content using the word “dead” is oscillating about a middle eastern style live execution by firing squad. Somehow, silence is the answer.

Second point. The quality of this idea reads like something a guy tripping on stimulants would think a brilliant idea.

Historically, drug addicts into depressive types of drugs like alcohol, heroin, or fentanyl will chase their drug of choice with cocaine to lessen the depressive effect.

Cause the U.S. government doesn't need to appease the algorithm. It's the peasants that do.

[-] HubertManne@piefed.social 25 points 1 day ago

i won't be watching it but I will be watching closely who hosts and advertises around it.

[-] treadful@lemmy.zip 12 points 1 day ago

Why do I fear that this'll play in bars and people will host parties based around the stream? Surely this can't just become part of our culture?

[-] ChunkMcHorkle@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Because historically that's exactly what public executions devolved into. Rowdy bloodlust entertainment.

From a recent article in The Guardian warning that viewing this kind of material can result in harm to mental health in those who watch it, a historian talks about how public executions went down in the 1800s and how even Charles ~~Darwin~~ Dickens weighed in on making executions non-public back in the day (emphases mine):

Prof Rosalind Crone, a historian at the Open University in the UK, said: “Public execution in England and Wales was abolished in 1868 because of persistent and increasing concern about the effects of watching hangings on the crowd. It was clear that public execution did not have a deterrent effect; in fact, sometimes the opposite.”

Crone said crowds were increasingly made up of people missing work to attend, and people who were drunk, rowdy and celebratory.

“Charles Dickens sums up the increasing objections well in his letter to the Daily News in 1846: ‘No sorrow, no salutatory terror, no abhorrence, no seriousness, nothing but ribaldry, debauchery, levity, drunkenness and flouting vice in fifty other shapes,’” she said.

Christ, I do that sometimes. Dickens. (Must have had Darwin Awards on my mind.) Thanks for the correction.

[-] HubertManne@piefed.social 5 points 1 day ago

ugh. had not even thought about that. I know its oversaid but I do hate this timeline.

They will. This is all part of the game. The reluctance is to “prove” they’re not already signed in and ready to cash in on it.

This is going to make a fortune for all of them.

I missed it on my first read through but the last sentence of the article mentions Rumble as well, who also didn't respond to request for comment.

[-] 4am@lemmy.zip 8 points 1 day ago

If Twitch allows it then calling him “Klan Dancey” finally makes some sense

[-] mkhopper@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Oh, I'm sure that TruthSocial devs are rapidly hammering out code to allow livestreaming on that platform.
