Haven't we had enough yet? Can't we please just wake up tomorrow morning, and there be no more transphobia or any other forms of bigotry? No more corruption? And wealth be distributed fairly? The human species has a finite amount of time on this earth. Each human has a finite amount of time on this earth. Can we just put our feet down and say enough with the unnecessary drama?

I still haven't talked my brother down from this idiocy. I've been at it for over a decade. Unfortunately you can't just make people see reality if they want to believe lies.

We should strike. Like Spain. Like France. Let's strike. Everybody.

[-] Netux@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 17 hours ago

I was thinking strike more like a F-15. Bound to be more effective than the parades we call protest, and easier to pull off than a labor strike en mass.

Well, 1/3 of, say, America supports what's going on, and another 1/3 doesn't really care either way. Even in just that last third, caring enough to take on enormous personal cost is extremely rare.

Basically, how, given massive public support, you win, was never the question.

Wanna see how many people are indifferent to politics? Let's see how successful the upcoming Harry Potter series is. People who care about politics will either boycott or pirate it. The far right will boycott because Snape is black and the far left will boycott because of Rowling's transphobia. But the series is going to still be massively successful because there are enough people who don't care about either of those things strongly enough to boycott.

On the other hand, the owner class shits their pants over a 5% decline in growth. I'm sure even that fraction of 1/3 is well capable of causing more than that. Like, they would hire private militaries to attack us as they did in the coal wars.

[-] CanadaPlus@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Well, by that logic, the private militaries in question should have just gone on strike, as well. It wouldn't take many to foul up the operation, right? There's just way, way more public support for life to go on like normal, than there is for whatever fringe party you're pushing to seize power. (Or for a raging power vacuum, if you're the kind of person who doesn't have an alternative society ready in detail)

To be fair, at the polls, this basic logic works. Normal voters are kind of predictable and inert, and elections are routine and safe, so that 1% of activists do make it rain. If you really mean business, you should go and sign up to doorknock - for an established party, or a fringe party. If nothing else, you'd get to see what we're talking about first hand.

If that's too big an ask for you personally - and let's be real, most people on Lemmy wouldn't ever do that - you should stop talking about people's livelihoods and personal safety. Hopefully, you're not in that picture.

How much funds are in the war chest? Strikers will need groceries after they're fired.

[-] the_q@piefed.social 6 points 3 days ago

Sacrifices must be made. Change cannot happen otherwise.

[-] CanadaPlus@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

The thing is, nobody wants to sacrifice for some distant, abstract ideal. That's why history's revolutions didn't happened like this, either.

Edit: What people do like to do is idly talk about it. Somehow shitposters rarely show up IRL.

[-] BC_viper@lemmy.world 15 points 3 days ago

You could. But youre not ready for it. Because it means real violence. Real death. Real upheaval. None of us are really ready for that. Even me.

[-] HubertManne@piefed.social 4 points 3 days ago

its funny but I feel a lot of folks don't really feel time. They don't seem to see how it drags on but it also incredibly short. we live for decades and out species have barely gotten here and destroyed so many species.

[-] Malica@lemmy.zip 4 points 3 days ago

No, but I wish we could

[-] Murse@slrpnk.net 6 points 3 days ago

The tool you're looking for is called a "guillotine". We're way overdue.

I think you all missed the point. I'm wishing in vain to not have to fight the fascists, to wake up one morning and the fascism just be gone. I know it's not realistically possible, but I'm wishing it

[-] for_some_delta@beehaw.org 3 points 2 days ago

Wishing to not fight is virtuous. Preparing for the fight is prudent.

With long term planning and perserverance, our great grandchildren (x15?) might know an end to the class war. That's bleak. I'm here for the fight.

Stop consuming anything unnecessary. Consume as much as possible from local, mom-and-pop stores where they still exist for your necessaries. General strike.

Until people start hurting the wallets and production of the elites, ANGH.

They have control over the government, we're here using mod abuse to censor comments that call conservative voters retarded

[-] Tiresia@slrpnk.net 5 points 3 days ago

Oh no, how abusive to stand up in defense of people with down syndrome who get used as an insult for republicans.

Clearly if our community just let us treat specific minorities as subhuman filth, this will somehow allow us to stand up against fascism.

[-] krakloskewm@lemmy.zip -3 points 3 days ago

You have to be a human being to be retarded tho
