I remember my math teacher leaving a remark under my test that read "Your chaotic and unorganized way of working is not to your benefit."

[-] thenextguy@sh.itjust.works 71 points 3 days ago

"I award you no points, and my god have mercy on your soul."

[-] Master@sh.itjust.works 8 points 3 days ago

Jokes on them, my god has no mercy.

Man, Adam Sandler was on such a heater in the 90's. This is easily my favorite line from any of his movies though.

[-] MountingSuspicion@reddthat.com 16 points 3 days ago

Having both been that student and eventually that teacher*, I can say they are entirely correct in saying that. Now I am much more organized and it really does help. I do have to put more thought and effort in before starting to keep myself organized, but it makes a world of difference. I don't know what, if anything, someone could've told me at the time to get me organized, but looking back it would've done me much more good to get in the habit younger.

[-] CheesyFingers@piefed.social 9 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

I'm well aware but it's not a choice that i make and you would find it is documented in my IEP plan, had you read it.

Oh yeah? Then why am I lurching through life to survive through sheer force of will!?

[-] QuantumSparkles@sh.itjust.works 7 points 3 days ago

I feel like there is a much more helpful and kind way of making that point

[-] Zachariah@lemmy.world 54 points 3 days ago

one of the few perks a teacher has:
messing with kids’ minds

and this one is good for ’em

[-] terranoid@lemmy.cafe 19 points 3 days ago

They used to get physical abuse too but now they just have to settle for light emotional

No dark sarcasms in the classroom

[-] Kuma@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago

That happened to me once but the teacher didn't say it out loud just hinted that I was wrong then I corrected it and she took my paper and said I passed lol

[-] spacegoat@lemmy.world 35 points 3 days ago

I do not miss one thing about school

[-] SpacePanda@leminal.space 16 points 3 days ago

You will when you're 24 with a shitty retail job and no friends...

[-] Ryanmiller70@lemmy.zip 19 points 3 days ago

I'm 31 with no friends and worked a shitty retail job for 11 years (I don't anymore cause the place shut down so now I work at a slaughterhouse). I have never once missed school. You couldn't pay me to go back there.

[-] insanemantis@lemmy.world -4 points 3 days ago

I'm just saying, in school you still had your whole life ahead of you, including your 20s

Everything was fun and exciting. The consequences of forgetting stuff or messing up weren't as bad. You weren't forced to work with anyone. Making friends was much easier. There were clubs and activities

[-] mr_satan@lemmy.zip 14 points 3 days ago

Dunno man, I don't want to be contrariant, but it just sounds like you were privileged enough to think that way now.

I was poor, I didn't really get to go clubs or extra activities besides classes, neither did I made any lasting friendships.

Now I'm in my 30s and I'm living my best life. I have a job I can enjoy, enough money and a loving partner. Never have I thought that it would be nice to go back to school. Hell, I haven't had contact with anyone from school since it ended.
I do have some fond and grateful memories of some teachers. I think about them from time to time, but I don't really miss any of it.
Also, I'm from a country that has decent enough public school system.

[-] insanemantis@lemmy.world -4 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

I could say the same for your point, since you clearly have the freedom to work at a job that you enjoy

It's all relative to how privileged you were in school vs how privileged you are in your job market

[-] mr_satan@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 days ago

Oh, yeah! I went up big time. Not own property up, but live well up.

[-] kestrel7_7@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

There are still clubs and activities in adult life and also I’m not forced to follow arbitrary rules all the time

You weren’t forced to work with anyone.

Our schools were very different!

[-] decolo@piefed.social 5 points 3 days ago

wrong! That does suck but it's way better than school!

[-] wreckedcarzz@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

(X) Doubt

(I'm beyond that age but the reference is better than saying 'ha, incorrect')

[-] kestrel7_7@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

I have like fifty million friends and a great job. I appreciate that my education helped my life, but I don’t miss school for a second.

[-] tigeruppercut@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 days ago

School mostly felt like a grind. Even though undergrad was more fun, it still was stressful and it felt like there were a lot of hoops without really connecting to much. But when I went back to school like 10 years after that it was for something I was really interested in and (almost) all my classes felt relevant and like they were giving me the info I needed to succeed at what I wanted to do.

[-] spacegoat@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

I’m 40 and close to retiring. Ha

[-] copymyjalopy@sh.itjust.works 43 points 3 days ago

Lol, once had a teacher look over my shoulder at my exam and sit down and try to help me. Then the following lecture have him declare to the class that he was frustrated that "one student" couldn't even yada yada.

[-] wreckedcarzz@lemmy.world 9 points 3 days ago

"but teacher, why are you referring to yourself as a student?"

[-] chunes@lemmy.world 17 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Still better than holding up my math quiz (after being the first to hand it in) and dead-ass asking "What is this?" in front of the whole class.

[-] aksdb@lemmy.world 19 points 3 days ago

Had a teacher go through the tests, held up one of a class mate and announced “this is the worst I've ever seen”. A few pages later she holds up mine with “oh, this is even worse”. 😒

[-] TomArrr@lemmy.world 9 points 3 days ago

Taking one for your mate. Without even a cape.

[-] Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works 26 points 3 days ago

MAYBE the teacher had been getting more and more unsure of themself as they walked around realizing everyone else was doing it wrong, until they got to you who had read it correctly and gotten the right answer, using the correct method. So they now knew their exam was written fine but the others had made wrong assumptions instead of reading carefully.

I did say maybe.

You're gonna be the one that saves me

[-] OriginEnergySux@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

and afterrr aaaalllll

[-] Etterra@discuss.online 11 points 3 days ago

I remember in second grade one of those handouts that you were supposed to follow the instructions of, with the first instruction being "read all instructions carefully before you do anything" followed by 18 increasingly ridiculous activities, and the last one being "ignore 2-18, turn this paper over, and sit quietly."

I was one of three kids that actually read the first instruction and followed it all the way down to the bottom. Everybody else looked like idiots LOL.

[-] Dicska@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Apparently it's been widely used everywhere.

I was so proud for a short time that I was the first and these noobs are still so behind that they are just giggling at it because they still don't know.

The last task hit hard.

[-] SexualPolytope@lemmy.sdf.org 19 points 3 days ago

I just did this last week during an Exam. We do want to help the student out sometimes, but it will be against the rules.

[-] Rhaedas@fedia.io 15 points 3 days ago

The twist was that you were doing it right. But now your confidence is shattered.

[-] Notyou@sopuli.xyz 9 points 3 days ago

Or when they see a student changing an answer and tells the class to go with their first instinct.

[-] zaphod@sopuli.xyz 9 points 3 days ago

I have to remember that one for exam season to mess with students.

[-] MutantTailThing@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

I had a teacher who used to hand out test results starting from the lowest grade and before handing them out he used to look across the room like a shark in a paddling pool.
