Meh, I'm not doing the worst with my Arch setup.
It may be time to switch to Nix tho :3

Also, skirts are underrated. Wear skirts, everyone, don't even care. Everyone looks good in a skirt. And with eyeliner and mascara too! (imho)

FINALLY an understandable guide what to start with

[-] AdrianTheFrog@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

nixos sounds very cool to me in theory but in practice there's a lot more in the aur than in nixpkgs and arch hasn't broken for me yet anyways

[-] thedeadwalking4242@lemmy.world 1 points 18 hours ago

I daily drive nixos never had to us the AUR

[-] Miisha@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 day ago

Be careful! Lots of malware in the AUR lately, apparently. It's nice to have the AUR, but when you can't use it because it's full of malware...it sucks :P

[-] AdrianTheFrog@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Yeah, I think it's still closed for new contributers as well to combat that, so it might not stay as the place to find everything for long... but if people flock to any other easy to contribute package repository it'll probably have the same problems eventually. I guess that's what flatpack is for, but it seems so inefficient to me.

nix is ai slop now, go with guix

unfortunately it will turn your socks into loose white long johns with a butt hatch

honestly, because nix the language is bad and unnecessary. nix the community/nix the system is one thing, and lix adresses that, but my basic gripe is that they decided to make a new language when so many already exist, then make it the most weird, inconsistent mess since c++.

Gonna have to disagree with Ubuntu being a higher grade than Linux Mint.

I still need to put on my skirt today.

[-] tmyakal@infosec.pub 22 points 2 days ago

As someone who uses Mint, I've got those super-short below-the-ankle no-show socks. If I'm going to go through the hassle of shaving, everyone is required to see how good a job I did.

[-] rumschlumpel@feddit.org 4 points 2 days ago

The distros are ordered by how complicated / "batteries included" they are. Mint is definitely simpler than Ubuntu, especially if you're a recent Windows convert.

[-] Valmond@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 day ago

But Mint is Debian, right 😭 ?!

[-] Miisha@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 day ago

Yes, of course.
Mint is Debian and war is peace and freedom is slavery and ignorance is strength.
Of course!

[-] Valmond@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 day ago

So 😚👉🏼👈🏼?

[-] JayDee@lemmy.world 12 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Why'd you have the text logo for the rest but just the sigil logo for linux mint?

[-] Apytele@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 days ago

You think I can read?

[-] glitchdx@lemmy.world 17 points 2 days ago

You know what's better than thigh high socks? Leggings. Then you can wear whatever kind of socks you want (or not) with them!

I run mint, btw.

[-] Miisha@lemmy.blahaj.zone 11 points 2 days ago

Leggings are the dream...
No literally, just a dream. I refuse to wear them until after bottom surgery.

[-] glitchdx@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

Why not? Not trying to be rude, genuinely asking. I find leggings + skirt to be quite comphy and stylish.

(extra points when the bf pins me down and rips the leggings open because pulling them off would take too long)

[-] Miisha@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 2 days ago

Bf ripping my clothes is hot, but also frustrating, cause I keep running out of clothes 😭
Hot tho :3

Leggins are a dream for me...but alas, with the way they are, you can see everything, even the parts that I personally don't want to be there....that's why I'm waiting until SRS for leggings

[-] DaPorkchop_@lemmy.ml 2 points 19 hours ago

trust me, with a good pair of tucking panties you can't see a thing :)

qwq the socks keep slipping down what does work for me tho is wearing nude-color tights over the leggings, cropped to the mid-thigh so they make the leggings look like socks.

[-] No_Eponym@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago

Did you forget "I use Arch btw"?

I have a million pairs at home and even wear them outside (I turn them inside out to put on shoes).

[-] eepydeeby@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 19 hours ago

Yoo these rule! How do i find my own pairs? :3

[-] Apytele@sh.itjust.works 1 points 19 hours ago

Idk Amazon?

Wait, don't you work in a psychiatric hospital? It's pretty funny that you wear grippy socks.

[-] Apytele@sh.itjust.works 2 points 19 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago)

I'm what happens when a borderline figures out how to get paid to malinger in the hospital and still have keys to everything.

[-] SpikedIguana@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago

These are pro grade grippy socks, surgery you get bearhuggers, spensive hotel with no tv you get Medline. I also don't WORK in a psychiatric hospital.

[-] DupaCycki@lemmy.world 12 points 2 days ago

This exact meme unironically made me try NixOS half a year ago.

It's now among my favourite distros, and I run it on my main laptop.

[-] birdwing@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 day ago

Check out Lix too, it's basically Nix but better (w/ governance and has no AI slop)

I'd so wear programming socks if I wasn't as hairy as I am

[-] Miisha@lemmy.blahaj.zone 16 points 2 days ago

You make body hair sound like an obstacle...it's not :3

[-] SarahValentine@pawb.social 11 points 2 days ago

It causes dysphoria to see it on my body; it's an obstacle to me.

QubesOS: multiple leggings.

Linux From Scratch:
Here's a needle and cloth. Go make a skirt yourself.

OpenSUSE: sandals and long socks.

Edit (a few hours later): here's a bonus. going by their corporate/design philosophy rather than their difficulty, here's a summary, explaining distros as leggings.

A Summary of Linux Distros as LeggingsBEGINNER

Mint: Get a pair of pre-made leggings for free. Not all of its material is made by the vendor, but it just works fine and that's okay. Literally, just go to a thrift shop, get fresh, store-like leggings, put on, done. Recommend it for everyone if you just start out with leggings.

Ubuntu: Like a meh version of Mint, but promoted themselves more to make up for it. Gradually, companies started to buy from this one because they heard of it. Decent, just slightly more corporatised.

Pop!: Optimised leggings for gaming. Similar to Ubuntu in design, but the programming colours pop! out more. Also, it can fold its parts out and in with remarkable ease, so you can multitask easily. Quick to put on and easy to move in, great performance.

Zorin: Unlike other distros, its vendor has got more focus on being for-profit. But it's pretty accessible and comfy to wear, and it comes with looks that resemble those of Windows or Mac leggings, if you preferred those.

INTERMEDIATE

Fedora: Much of the material is made by the vendor and you know where it's from. Material adjusts swiftly to seasons. American company finances the community (in exchange, they make their own version they sell to others).

OpenSUSE: Same story as Fedora financing-wise, except the backer is German. Comes with their intuitive sewing & usage manual. It comes with a self-restore kit for when you fuck up. The vendor has two types of leggings: Leap, where the style periodically shifts for seasons, and Tumbleweed, which adapts quickier.

Debian: All of the material is made by the vendor. You can see how the fibers are connected and where it's from. Its materials are very slow to adapt to seasons, but it never rips.

ADVANCED

Tails: Nobody should know what's under those leggings, right? So grab a one-use legging from the box that fits inside a pocket. Put it on, go anywhere, put off and destroy the legging. You can pull a new legging from that box afterward.

Arch: Here's the material and here's a manual for letting the leggings (adjusted to your wish) be made. Once completed, it adjusts fast to seasons whenever you wash it yourself - so don't forget to then throw it in a washing machine!

Kali: The leggings aren't too comfy or casual, but included is: a tool list to learn to spot mistakes and erasures in legging construction, and tools for fixing those.

QubesOS: A legging on which you can stitch different legging parts, so people don't know which legging you truly wear. Someone damages one of your parts? Just rip it off and put a new on. Parts will eventually be damaged anyways, so better make sure all the parts are separate and can be replaced without problems.

Lix: Here's the material and an instruction manual for making it yourself. And here's a customisation menu for how exactly you want your leggings, alongside with a washing machine and a self-restore kit in case you fuck up (see also: OpenSUSE).

SUFFERING, WHY DO YOU DO THIS?

Gentoo: Here's a stitch and needle. Now go make your own leggings. But don't worry, there's a manual for making the parts fit together, but it's much more of a hassle than Arch and might rip quite often if you forgot a thread here or here. You'll understand more of how the leggings work, though.

Linux from Scratch: The above vendor clearly doesn't know the entire process. I can do anything! They skipped the very begin. Here's my advice. Go bloody make a stitch and needle from raw materials yourself. Then make your own leggings. Manual for making parts fit together not included. After all, you'll make it truly your own.

[-] Neverclear@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 18 hours ago

LFS is literally just a manual though.

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.
