Sorry I'm out of the loop: Whats up with the shovels?

Following the trend from around about 2001, every year will be a little bit worse than the year before, except for those years that are a lot worse.

[-] inari@piefed.zip 10 points 2 days ago

Thanks to climate change, to an extent this is already guaranteed

[-] Tattorack@lemmy.world 12 points 2 days ago

We've been asking "could the next year not be as bad as the last year???" since 2019. But every year has been a little worse.

Wait. Y'all are not sliding into a hopeless abyss whereever you are?

[-] Tattorack@lemmy.world 1 points 16 hours ago

Yes, but it didn't hit us the moment Trump got elected. It hit us more starting in summer 2019 when such discourse finally reached us, and at the end of that year we were all saying "let's make 2020 better." and then WHAM... COVID-19.

[-] ParlimentOfDoom@piefed.zip 5 points 2 days ago

Eh, buckle up. Open AI runs out of money in August. First domino in the LLM bubble popping. Those tech companies the only thing keeping the stock market from already looking like a recession. Shits gonna crash

[-] Lemmyoutofhere@lemmy.ca 22 points 2 days ago

[gestures at climate] anybody want to tell them?

[-] ironhydroxide@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 days ago

Don't worry, those multiple looming tipping points are blatantly obvious.

[-] chefdano3@lemmy.zip 7 points 2 days ago

2027 shows up with a pickaxe.

"What? It's not a shovel."

[-] SystemDisc@feddit.org 7 points 2 days ago

I'm sorry to say, it likely continues getting worse from here. It'll be awhile now before it gets better.

[-] SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 2 days ago

Yup. Anybody that knows anything about history knows that we're all in it deep. How long it takes, though, that's anybody's game. It could be in our lifetimes or our grandchildren's lifetimes. It could even all be over a few years from now - unlikely, but possible.

One thing is for certain, it is going to get worse, much worse, before it gets better.

You don't get to this point and just turn around and never come back. That's like getting bone cancer and then it just disappearing on its own. And right now, it has metastasized in the oval office and all branches of the US government and has been consolidating power across the world, brazenly, for several years, basically unhindered.

I have seen the future and I don't like it

[-] ComfortableRaspberry@feddit.org 1 points 2 days ago

Maybe you just didn't look far enough?

[-] heartSagan5@lemmy.zip 4 points 2 days ago

Or, vote in the midterms for -- at least teeth?

[-] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 6 points 2 days ago

2027 will probably begin with an insurrection like 2021

[-] cinoreus@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

Sorry, bubbles gonna pop soon. If anything keep your expectations for next decade, this one's already down the drain.

[-] balsoft@lemmy.ml 4 points 2 days ago

Sorry, for the next decade there's a scheduled finding out after the prolonged fucking around with greenhouse gas emissions.

[-] darthsundhaft@piefed.social 5 points 2 days ago

This is why ppl gotta stop saying "this year is gonna be my year". Bad things happen. They will continue to happen. What we can do now though? Like Spain, we should be striking. We should be forcing them all out and kicking them out of the country. Plain and simple. Time is an illusion. Action needs to happen now.

[-] agamemnonymous@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 days ago

Hey uh please don't fucking jinx it, alright?

[-] the_q@piefed.social 6 points 2 days ago
[-] Jackusflackus@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

This is the way, probably never happen. People have tried organizing over and over without success.

[-] RandomCheese@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago

I disagree. They may not have achieved their goals, but they have often achieved a step towards it. Riots for the abolition of work may lead to less working hours and better protection. Stonewall was a riot..stuff for queer folks is far from perfect but has improved a lot in the last decades in many countries.

[-] Jackusflackus@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

You can disagree all you want that’s fine and dandy, but America right now won’t rise up and riot against Trump. Atleast enough where it would matter. Too many people can go about their daily lives no matter what, too many dumb people supporting him, too many of everything except people who want to overthrow him.

[-] RandomCheese@lemmy.world 1 points 19 hours ago

Ah yeah, I realize I misunderstood you. I thought you meant that rioting/organizing against this system in general (historically) doesn't work.

But I still believe that organizing matters, always. Even if it only saves a few people from being deported or makes change more difficult it is meaningful. I may not bring Trump out of office, that might be true

[-] itsgroundhogdayagain@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 days ago

We've been saying this since 2020.

[-] SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 2 days ago

Hope is important. But I know it's gonna be worse next year, and 2028. Plan accordingly.

[-] HumanOnEarth@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 days ago

It's so freaking sad to watch people finally figure out things are not getting better, not in our lifetimes anyway.

There's a reason these memes have been coming up every year for a while now.

I predict we no longer see this type of meme about 2027 sucking and 2028 better be better. I think we will see some "holy shit 2027" in the first few weeks and after that it won't be much of a joke anymore.

[-] Hansae@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 days ago

My goal in life is now just to try and live as comfortably as possible, my generation will bear the brunt of what is to come and while we may see the beginnings of improvement we will not see any meaningful results from it, which im fine with tbh so long as things can start going in the right direction sometime in the next 60 years.

[-] mycodesucks@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

It's never going to get better in the lifetime of anybody alive today.

[-] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

Because, if you're in the U.S., it has become strikingly clear that we have a major education/bigotry problem and things don't typically get better when there's a critical level of stupid bigots in a society.

Orange pedo can stop breathing, and that'll be nice, but our issues extend so much further than that.

Hope mycodesucks and I are wrong.

[-] Randelung@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

Mamdani is living proof it can improve locally. We just need more of his type to cover the US - which has always been true, local level is the grassroots that form the government. So there is a way, even within the system. It might take a while, but it can be within our lifetimes.

[-] HumanOnEarth@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 days ago

You need an electorate with a certain average intelligence to elect someone like that when the opportunity comes up.

Those with looser morals will more successfully convince the less intelligent they are right. Because they are willing and able to use fear, confusion and hate as tools, which hits a lot harder for the lizard brain than the intelligent brain.

[-] Rothe@piefed.social 1 points 2 days ago

Climate change is the primary reason. Climate change also causes economic and societal collapse, which again accelerates the descent into fascism which is already happening.

Hold my fucking beer
- 2027, probably

why am I hearing heavy digging equipment heading towards me?

Hopefully things can turn around a bit after the US midterms, at least?

[-] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

I stopped having hope, tbqh.

I still vote. I just don't have any hope while I do it.

[-] Pratai@piefed.ca 3 points 2 days ago

Yeah. So far, I’ve lost loved ones every year since 2023. Two of my best friends, my uncle, our cat and our dog.

My heart can’t take losing any more. I need 2027 to recoup.

[-] liuther9@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

Losing is neutral and natural, how you judge it makes difference. In fact it is not losing it is returning, it was never yours

[-] grue@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

The bar is in the basement. Please don't bring a shovel

This reads like something a serial killer would say to his date.

2027 isn't bringing a shovel, it's bringing a backhoe and a jackhammer.
