US ~~claims~~ admits they were responsible for foreign interference.

They also claim there will be no more meetings with Alberta seperatists. That too, like all else, is a lie.

[-] kreskin@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

Why was there one to begin with? We overthrowing frickin Canada now? They've been better neighbors than we deserve.

[-] panda_abyss@lemmy.ca 31 points 3 days ago

So they admit they interfered in our elections while claiming we are interfering in theirs and that we need to stop?

[-] CalemitousVariantK@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago

One of the keys to magat strategy has always been to accuse people of what you're doing.

[-] DeadEndLink@lemmy.ca 34 points 3 days ago

Wow. Left out in the cold by the u.s and the premier. What a bunch of gullible fools.

[-] Reannlegge@lemmy.ca 22 points 3 days ago

Yeah and if you beleive that I have this nice ocean front property to sell you just a stones throw away from down town Calgary to sell you.

[-] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

Is it the one that has a bridge to Banff?

[-] Reannlegge@lemmy.ca 3 points 3 days ago

I do not know it has been ages sense I have been to Calgary I wanna say it is south of city hall? So probably not.

[-] kat_angstrom@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

Is that the one with the wall that keeps out Saskatchewan?

[-] Reannlegge@lemmy.ca 3 points 3 days ago

No I think you are thinking about Fort Saskatchewan!

[-] MyMotherIsAHamster@lemmy.ca 16 points 3 days ago

In other news, lying liars continue to lie.

The Alberta separatist movement looks identical to the maga movement.

People don't understand geopolitics. It's probably the same masterminds behind it that created maga. Politics isn't organic, it's an industry and manipulated.

Most people are groomed and indoctrinated to not understand. And I invite everybody to come understand reality on their on own timeline and on their own terms... Without all the bullshit pop marketed cultures put on you to maintain a certain image of what normal is.

[-] shittydwarf@piefed.ca 19 points 3 days ago

Who could have guessed the separatist movement would be left flapping in the wind after their resounding defeat?

[-] Bebopalouie@lemmy.ca 5 points 3 days ago

Sure sure and by the way house hippos fly.

[-] grte@lemmy.ca 13 points 3 days ago

Contender for least believable headline of 2026, surely.

[-] Archangel1313@lemmy.ca 14 points 3 days ago

I thought they were denying any meetings even took place.

[-] Canconda@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 days ago

IIRC those meetings were purportedly about exporting Albertan oil.

[-] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 10 points 3 days ago

Americans after ten minutes in a room with Alberta Separatists: "Oh gawd, they're worse than we are"

[-] frustrated_phagocytosis@fedia.io 10 points 3 days ago

Cash flow to Trump must have dried up, try again later when you have more treason money

[-] adespoton@lemmy.ca 10 points 3 days ago

Next up: Quebec separatists.

[-] Godort@lemmy.ca 11 points 3 days ago

This would only happen if the Americans spoke French. And proper Québécois French, not Parisian French.

[-] gramie@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

I learned classical Spanish, not the pidgin dialect he seems to have picked up

-- Basil Fawlty, referring to Manuel in "A Touch of Class"

[-] adespoton@lemmy.ca 7 points 3 days ago

Oh, I didn’t say they’d get anywhere.

[-] IrateAnteater@sh.itjust.works 10 points 3 days ago

I'd say that Quebec separatists are a slightly different ball of wax. That movement started before Canada or the US were even countries.

[-] adespoton@lemmy.ca 4 points 3 days ago

Yes; the difference is they just won an election.

[-] Bubbaonthebeach@lemmy.ca 6 points 3 days ago

28% of the vote. Hardly a resounding separatist vote.

[-] DaddleDew@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

The party that win Quebec's election is a separatist party but they said they won't push for it for as long as the Trump problem exists.

I feel that if an American representative tried to talk to them they'd tell them to "manger de la marde"

[-] ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca -2 points 3 days ago

The US will exist after Trump. Unless Quebec plans to join France then separating won't happen.

[-] Jax@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 days ago

I could see it if the U.S. balkanizes

[-] codydodd@lemmy.ca 1 points 3 days ago

Quebec historically hated France more than the English who conquered them in part because continental france has always looked down upon their American colonies and sold them for cheap for sugar islands. Quebec became an entirely separate nation from france at that point

[-] ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca 1 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

I think you're missing the why.

It's about military strength.

[-] whoisearth@lemmy.ca 1 points 3 days ago

Listen to Chantal before you worry about anything.

Tl;dr - completely different grievances. America doesn't want them. They don't give a shit what America thinks. Highly unlikely any referendum will happen.

[-] adespoton@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 days ago

America didn’t want Alberta either. That didn’t stop them from trying to destabilize Canada.

And it won’t stop them from trying again with Quebec. They’ll have even less success, but they’ll still try.

[-] realworldschlitz@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

They tried that before way back in the 90s. It didn’t fly.

[-] adespoton@lemmy.ca 1 points 3 days ago

It won’t this time either.

And yet, Brexit happened.

[-] Denfa@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago

So meetings start next week then?

[-] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 4 points 3 days ago
