Part of the issue is that people and manufacturers use shitty lights that are bright but don't illuminate very well even though they're so bright.

Like the difference between a nice even sound at a live concert vs old horn speakers being overdriven.

So the issue is partially shitty vehicles with mal-aimed headlights, partially shitty headlight technology, and once again also, corruption.

Might as well make it an even 1 million lumen

I think it would be funny if someone created a website for people to upload pictures of these big trucks and we all rate how gay the trucks are. Half of them already have truck nuts anyway, so they're basically pretending to ride around in giant penises. Seems pretty gay. Biggaytrucks.com anyone?

It’s Lemmy. Create it

[-] spacegoat@lemmy.world 4 points 8 hours ago

Replace it with with a gamma ray

[-] Lord743@lemmy.world 1 points 7 hours ago

Anti matter?

[-] rumba@lemmy.zip 5 points 9 hours ago

I always had this want to setup a small computer and a mirror on servos.

calculate where both the headlights are height wise and derrive where the driver's eyes are and just beam their lights back into thier own eyes.

of course, then, when they hit you and the cops see the rig, you'll get right fucked.

[-] Baggie@lemmy.zip 7 points 16 hours ago

I don't know why but this initially registered as a device to save Princess Diana.

[-] jdr@lemmy.ml 6 points 10 hours ago
[-] Baggie@lemmy.zip 3 points 3 hours ago

Yeah, going back in time was involved. I'm not sure why.

[-] uberfreeza@lemmy.world 11 points 19 hours ago

Sometimes they'll be marked as handicap vehicles too and park there. Like, I get if you have a physical handicap that makes it tough to walk long distance, but if you can climb 2 feet to get into your giant truck, I don't know what possible physical impairment you have. I live in an area with pavement princesses everywhere. It's ridiculous.

[-] rumba@lemmy.zip 6 points 9 hours ago

Ehh, prosthetics would do it. You have a point, to a point tho. Some people are also disabled in ways that come and go. Then you have people who got disabled recently but haven't sold the car yet for something reasonable. Then you have some where they cart around disabled family members.

Yeah, i'm totally sure 80% of jacked-up trucks with disabled tags are just hamming it, but I wouldn't want to fuck over the 20%

As a bus driver... Please no... I hate them too... But please no...

[-] Atropos@lemmy.world 10 points 19 hours ago

We must protect our bus drivers!

Not sure it's a good idea to blind the Child Killer 5000 operator when it's coming in your direction

[-] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 10 points 20 hours ago

I no longer care. I'm sick of being blinded by LED headlights.

also, you often can't even tell what it is that's blinding you, so it could be a Corolla as easily as a truck

[-] Anti_Iridium@lemmy.world 6 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

I still have fond memories of driving at night before all these bright as fuck led headlights.

I learned to drive on a 1985 jeep, and it practically had glow worms in jam jars for headlights and I never had an issue, but for some fucking reason every single car needs to be as bright as a collapsed sun.

Not to mention the people with horribly aimed headlights.

[-] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 hour ago

yeah, the aiming makes it worse for sure. like the lights just shouldn't be that bright to begin with, because blinding people as they crest a hill is stupid as fuck, but there's absolutely no call to be blinding people on flat level ground.

unfortunately people often claim that they're fine because they're aligned properly on flat level ground, and ignore the fact that they do not drive exclusively on flat level ground free of bumps and inclines and differences in elevation with those around them

And I need it installed because, "freedoms" and it helps me to "hunting for sport". You understand...

[-] ArcaneSlime@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 9 hours ago

It's illegal in most of the US to spotlight deer, actually. You'll need a less illegal excuse.

[-] ArcaneSlime@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 3 hours ago

Lol definitely illegal, those are protected can't hunt them at all!

[-] Padit@feddit.org 23 points 1 day ago

What is a pavement princess?

[-] NKBTN@feddit.uk 1 points 1 hour ago

This confused me too. I thought the whole meme was about the conspiracy that Princess Di was murdered, when bright lights were deliberately shone in her drivers eyes, making the car crash

[-] TassieTosser@aussie.zone 26 points 21 hours ago

Gender affirming truck.

[-] awfulawful@lemmy.blahaj.zone 40 points 1 day ago

A vehicle that is ostensibly for off-road or "heavy duty work" that never leaves the pavement/road.

[-] Bytemeister@lemmy.world 8 points 21 hours ago

Generally has mods that make it less useful for those intended purposes.

Trucks for blue collar cosplayers.

[-] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago

20 years ago I had an F150. even then the newer trucks were much higher and much brighter than me. sometimes they would ride my tailgate and blind tf out of me.

my solution was to slow down. clearly they want to go around. most did, some didn't.

my favorite memory was reducing down to 25mph in a 55mph zone outside town. they had ample time to pass before town. once inside the town limits we were cruising at a blistering 10mph in a 35mph zone.

I pulled into the gas station to fill up and they pulled in behind me. gave me dirty daggers the whole time too. I just smiled and nodded while I slowly filled my tank. eventually they came to their senses and questioned wtf they were trying to accomplish and left.

[-] aeiou@piefed.social 54 points 1 day ago

Someone actually did this near where I live - every so often I'll see a VW Golf with four rows of lightbars mounted putting about and this is the only explaination for it I can think of

[-] Blue_Morpho@lemmy.world 32 points 1 day ago

It's for offroading or the esthetic of it.

It's the details like the Punisher skull that really tell a personal story.

[-] Smoogs@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago

and if they are behind you: get one of those reflective umbrellas and open it in the backseat to get them to stop climbing up your asshole

[-] recklessengagement@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago

I've often considered putting a giant mirror in my back window to reflect their high beams back into their eyes

Make it point backwards too.

[-] Not_mikey@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 21 hours ago

I can get behind this. Turn them on as revenge at the lifted truck with headlights right at the level where it makes your rear view mirror unusable if you're in a sedan.

[-] Voroxpete@sh.itjust.works 3 points 20 hours ago

Yeah, you get me.
