Josh couldn't get a space with the other strongmen because of the height difference, so he picked Democrat because Democrats are more accepting. Then he took a shit in front of everyone and instead of sitting in it till he could take care of it, he pulled it out and ate it with a smile.

The audacity to pull your crip-card to try and convince the able bodied that trans women are the "real oppressors" is beyond the pale. May his catheter ever be infected, and the bacteria ever gain resistance.

The ad, paraphrased: "I'm against boys playing girls' sports. So you see why I consider it so important to deny citizens health care."

What a turd.

[-] Malica@lemmy.zip 1 points 30 minutes ago

Slimy bastard. They always wait until after primaries to show their true colors.

[-] BertramDitore@lemmy.zip 42 points 17 hours ago

Oh man, that was hard to read. The way he justifies his position shows he completely misunderstands the issue, yet is willing to fuck with real people’s lives to maybe win a few extra theoretical votes. Despicable.

Using his completely valid experiences in a wheelchair to show he understands what it’s like to be bullied, and saying “No Iowan should face discrimination”, but then turning around and spelling out exactly how he wants to discriminate against trans people, is just insane. It’s almost too hypocritical for me to believe. Almost. It’s a shocking lack of empathy.

Iowan here, and he's not getting mine. Every other seat on the ticket I'll hold my nose and vote dem, but for his I'll either vote 3rd party or write-in for trans rights.

His opponent is also trash, but if he's willing to do this shit to win an election his policy votes will absolutely be hot garbage.

Fuck i hate it here lol

[-] SippyCup@lemmy.world 1 points 59 minutes ago

I'm like 70% certain he's a spoiler ballot candidate. Someone propped up by Republicans to run against their hot garbage candidate. Unappealing to any but the most centrist of liberals, I'm kinda surprised he survived the primaries

[-] CannonFodder@lemmy.world 5 points 4 hours ago

I totally understand the frustration. But when it's a choice between losing access to health care vs. getting locked up or worse, please don't throw away your vote.

[-] Cherries@lemmy.world 1 points 51 minutes ago

Turek is the one throwing away voters. If folks find it too difficult to bootstrap themselves out of the trash can that's the candidate's fault for forcing that decision.

You are focusing on the victims of a fucked up Saw torture conundrum. I would also prefer a Democrat to a Republican, but I find it cruel to tell victims to vote for their continued oppression. This is not the time for Democratic candidates like Turek to be putting on their Jigsaw masks and asking voters if they want to play a game.

[-] minnow@lemmy.world 17 points 13 hours ago

The only thing worse than Democratic candidates throwing trans people under the bus are progressive voters who hand victory to the fascists because of purity politics bullshit.

I'd rather Democrats take my rights away than let fascists burn the world to the ground. For fucks sake, some things are more important. Have some goddamn perspective.

Besides, if a transphobic Democrat wins we still gave a chance to convince them they're wrong. You ain't getting that chance with a fascist. Why would you give up the chance to advocate for change, just because that change is needed in the first place? That makes fucking no sense.

I hate it here too. Please don't make it worse than necessary.

Sincerely, A trans person

thank fuck, a rational take

i would like to believe people are just dumb and not lying but there is so much both sides same so don’t vote bullshit on lemmy

[-] PattyMcB@lemmy.world 5 points 13 hours ago

Assholes like him are a big part of the reason we can't have nice things. He'd rather screw people over and let the Rs win instead of just a. Doing the right thing, and b. Letting a few bigots not vote for him.

[-] Arcanepotato@crazypeople.online 8 points 15 hours ago

What a shitty person

[-] frunch@lemmy.world 7 points 15 hours ago

People like this are exactly what we can expect from the Democrats moving forward. As the right wing gets more fascist, the Democrats will have to make less concessions in order to still be considered the morally correct choice. They are just as hateful of trans people as the right wingers, apparently. Now that the right has proven it's an effective enough message to win votes from the nutters, i have a feeling this will become standard operating procedure for Democrats, particularly those running in conservative states. If they are genuinely looking to win votes from abhorrent people, they need to take their masks off.

Primary every single one

[-] wildncrazyguy138@fedia.io 15 points 15 hours ago

Democrats are a coalition, not a monolith. The socialist liberal Democrat in NY is not the same as the capitalist centrist Democrat in Iowa. They have to be electable in their pocket of the country. They’ll both vote party line 80% of the time though, and that’s a far better outcome than what we have now.

I actually talked to my former congressman the other day, happened to be at a function I attended regarding green energy and sustainability. He said that the conservatives in power called them in, said alright, don’t pull any of the stuff in that’s far to the left, but what are some priorities of yours that meet in the middle and we’ll get them in the bill. He said that they were able to get a few in. All that is to say, even the other side of the aisle wants to work together where they can.

But the publicly divisive stuff is real tough to do until the culture changes. In some cases the culture has changed > remember when Obama pushed back on gay marriage and Biden was much more understanding? And then the polling showed that people didn’t care so much about it anymore, and it became much less of an issue? It took nearly 30 years from don’t ask don’t tell to gay marriage. The trans issue is likely the next. Keep fighting for it, keep advocating for it, but I’d encourage you be tactful with how you frame it, there are a lot more of those that are allies than you may perceive.

[-] sunrisepirate@piefed.social 6 points 16 hours ago

Oh shit, Iowa Democrats are supporting anti-transgender legislation? As a voter in Michigan I better vote for the Republican so those Democrats know I support trans rights.

Thanks for sharing!

[-] WoodScientist@lemmy.world 3 points 15 hours ago

The only one saying that is you, ya chungus.

[-] BassTurd@lemmy.world 8 points 15 hours ago

Unfortunately they're right. There are two options, Turel or Hinson. Hinson is worse, so that leaves shitty Turek as the better option, even with this dog shit take.

[-] BassTurd@lemmy.world 1 points 12 hours ago

Fwiw, I went ahead and emailed this count to let him know just how bad he's fucked up. I hope that more people do the same. I still don't want Hinson to win, but fuck if I want this piece of shit to have more power to spread his shitty ideals.

[-] Wataba@sh.itjust.works 1 points 14 hours ago

Its an increasingly prevalent attitude on here.

[-] Zaktor@sopuli.xyz 3 points 7 hours ago

From the strawman in your mind maybe. There are people refusing to vote for or donate to actively transphobic Democrats, but no one I've seen has taken the absurd position the thread initiator made up. Doesn't stop people pretending it's real though.

[-] Arcanepotato@crazypeople.online 2 points 15 hours ago

What do you mean

[-] KulunkelBoom@lemmus.org 4 points 15 hours ago

Then he's not really a democrat, is he?

[-] savvie@lemmy.zip 4 points 16 hours ago
