Now we understand why Trump didn’t want [the Epstein files] released.

Just a week before the midterm elections, which are already shaping up to be a bloodbath for the GOP, Democrats have dropped a bombshell. “A growing body of evidence demonstrates that Donald Trump was an active participant in Jeffrey Epstein’s sexual abuse of young women during the mid-to-late 1990s,” states a just-released report from the Democrats of the House Judiciary Committee.

Additionally, they claim that Trump has leveraged his FBI and DOJ to cover up the evidence, and have now called for the appointment of a special counsel to investigate any potential wrongdoing.

We now know the things we all knew 2 years ago. Finally, after all this time, accusations are coming to light after spending so long out in the open and fully in the light.

[-] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 37 points 2 hours ago

I don't get it. Didn't we already know this? Is this not the bedrock that all of his heinous decisions are based on? What other reason would he start a war with Iran? No other reason than to move the spotlight away form his degenerate pedophilia.

[-] FudgyMcTubbs@lemmy.world 9 points 1 hour ago

No other reason ...

He and his buddies make a fortune when the gas prices dip then go up.

Voters have to be reminded of things, constantly. With hundreds and hundreds of millions of dollars.

[-] TargaryenTKE@lemmy.world 3 points 1 hour ago

1-The justice system works off of proof and evidence, not conjecture or presumption, no matter how likely the odds are (ideally speaking that is, different rules may apply depending on your race)

2-Since the President is also in charge of the DOJ, he has the power to tell them to just drop the issue. Now, a super-majority in Congress can bypass that, but currently that just ain't gonna happen

3-Like someone else pointed out, this headline was not written with people like you and me in mind, but rather people who were/are still hesitant to believe what the rest of us know to be true until they have literally no other option, and even then a large number of them will probably just go full-on into denial mode because they can't handle the idea that they were so wrong about something for so long

[-] o0evillusion0o@sh.itjust.works 1 points 23 minutes ago

What?!?! Not Donald Juvenile-Fucker Trump?! There must be a mistake.

[-] betanumerus@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 hour ago

"But but but! He said he was exonerated! He said this HIMSELF!"

[-] knobbysideup@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 hours ago

Until they are all punished, this is pointless.

[-] JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 4 points 2 hours ago

They can't be punished (within the system, at least) as long as the president controls the DOJ and enough of congress supports pedorape.

dear fediverse users: you are not the audience this headline is trying to reach.

[-] DrSoap@lemmy.world 9 points 4 hours ago

But, but... Epstein didn't kill himself

[-] Snapz@lemmy.world 35 points 6 hours ago

So many of you in the comments are subject to exactly what the article describes:

"Part of the problem with the stories of Epstein, Trump, and the corruption all come down to the same thing: The bit-by-bit release of information has created a long record of abhorrent behavior, which means that the bar to shock is so high it’s almost impossible to clear. There is a kind of disgust fatigue at play: Yeah, we know Epstein was a disgusting sex predator, and that some of the men around him probably partook too; what’s new? Those who are ideologically motivated to believe Trump at all costs are also probably motivated to believe him on Epstein too; very little seems like it would change the minds of hardcore MAGA adherents."

They said they worked to "flood the zone with shit" and you are all spewing it today. Calm down with the surprise memes. Sit in the hard feelings, shut up or do something about it

[-] raze2012@lemmy.world 14 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago)

or do something about it

What can I dom? It's kind of a trope with millennials at this point that memes are the form of "action" that represents our overall powerlessness to hold such people accountable, despite it being a scandal that redefines the meaning of "watershed moment".

If diddling kids for decades isn't enough to enrage a country into burning it down, what is?

[-] InputZero@lemmy.world 10 points 4 hours ago

Right? The leader of a country is known for hurting children. Everyone just says, "Yeah I don't like it, but there's nothing I can do about it." because the idea of organizing is so foreign to them that it's not even considered. That's an oppressive society.

[-] SplitTheUSInFour@lemmy.world 3 points 1 hour ago

Been saying this for so long. The US is my country too. It's better at propaganda than North Korea or any dictatorship. They're all through force. We don't need to force our population to believe in oppression. We put oppression on the menu and allow average citizens to experience applying it to others in bits and pieces from time to time.

You have to break the country to shut down the propaganda machine. It truly does need to be split into several pieces. The corporate media propaganda machine, the monopolies, the political parties who grip onto power...it'd all go away and we'd have a chance to fight for something new.

[-] Kurtismayfield@lemmy.zip 6 points 2 hours ago

Please show me a nationwide protest movement that has caused any measurable change in the last 40 years. The anti abortion movement maybe, although that had more power as a political wedge issue.

Iraq war protests, the largest protests in Western history, did nada.

Anti police violence protests? Cops are still killing people.

No Kings? Lol

So what can an average citizen do? Boycott Trump golf and buildings? Take Trump to court?? He's been sued more than anyone alive.

Im tired of being gaslight. Out system is so corrupt, and our Justice system is just a way to control the populace.

[-] SplitTheUSInFour@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

Yep. I agree. My answer is still the valid option. They'll say I'm wrong or from Russia or China or god knows where but man I'm telling you that we gotta split this place up like the EU or something.

It wasn't because he's in them 30,000 times? I thought it was because he was in them 30,000 times, and also an adjudicated rapist. There's other reasons they don't want to talk about him being a proven racist? Weird.

[-] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 7 points 9 hours ago

its who else is in the files that are not named, thats whats hes hiding.

[-] JustPlainDave@lemmy.zip 3 points 3 hours ago

I doubt that since the only person he cares about is himself.

[-] EvilHankVenture@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

The people who pay him and put him in power are in the files, he's protecting them.

[-] JustPlainDave@lemmy.zip 1 points 16 minutes ago

He's made billions with meme coins and insider trading. I doubt he needs to worry about anyone else these days. Not to mention that he'll throw anyone under the bus.

[-] AZEngie@lemmy.zip 28 points 11 hours ago

I'm so glad this is in the news again. The MSM hasn't been doing enough of this!

[-] JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 hour ago

The MSM is complicit, if not a downright accomplice or active participant.

News media in America is completely controlled by literally a handful of very wealthy people who are, if not friends with Trump, then at least close to his circle. MSM delivers the message that those people approved, and nothing more.

Also we should probably coin "MSI" as a term for mainstream internet. Google, Meta, Twitter, Amazon, OpenAI, and yes, even Reddit -- again, handful of very wealthy people who are buddy-buddy with Trump, and we get their curated message.

[-] tigeruppercut@lemmy.zip 8 points 7 hours ago

Agreed. Anything to push dumb fuck swing voters away from fascism

I, for one, am shocked. I just thought Epstein and Maxwell were two lone pedos with unrelated connections to teen modeling agencies and other known sex predators. Sure, the FBI found 300gb of data which later turned out to be dozens of terabytes, including video, which were later hacked, but the FBI said the data wasn't compromised, so no foul there. It's a shame he and so many of his clients died of totally natural or self-inflicted causes in such a short time afterward. I bet the discovery phase in court would have confirmed that his associates were blameless and that he was just maintaining a 20-40 terabyte collection of porn for personal use. The whole thing was so unrelated and random that they had to move Ghislaine Maxwell to a low-security prison despite her convictions for some of the worst and highest profile felonies in recent history.

But now there's evidence against another person whose name was all over the files and who has also bragged about inappropriate behavior with minors? Consider me shell shocked. Still, having been born yesterday, this is my first real day on earth, so what do I know.

[-] uberdroog@lemmy.world 132 points 15 hours ago

Um..we all pretty much got it...like years ago..decades even

[-] CoconutLove@lemmy.today 17 points 12 hours ago

Dems were just waiting for the news to have maximal political impact when they announce their conclusion. Right before the midterms hopefully moves some voters and also sets them up to impeach if they win.

[-] Joeffect@lemmy.world 12 points 10 hours ago

You mean impeach the president who had already been impeached?

This won't change a thing. Republicans know Trump rapes kids, they've decided that it's not a deal breaker.

When I say "Republicans" I'm not just talking about politicians. Republican voters have all chosen to support pedophilia, rape, and blatant corrupion.

It's actually not even clear what other policies Republican voters support. It's not small government, fiscal responsibility, family values, or law and order. As far as I can tell, they're only the party of pedophiles.

US culture revolves around the thrill of gossip. It's not about the thing itself. It's about high stakes drama.

It's like the Mythbusters gif where the truck never hits the bollard.

This was known after the FBI investigated in 2006. Alexander Acosta, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida made a deal with Epstein in 2007 to bury it. This was under Bush. Since then Acosta has gone on to work in the Trump administration. Whatever happens to Trump, Acosta needs to be brought up on charges for using his office to let a mass pedophile ring off the hook. Someone needs to look at his decision making and then try him and put him in prison where he belongs. We've known all about Epstein for 20 years now and very little has been done. But now theres a long list of co-conspirators and they need to be prosecuted.
