I've had powdered milkshake u just add water to 🤷

Traded for an american military ration. It was far too sugary

[-] Chais@sh.itjust.works 19 points 6 days ago

Of course it was. It's American. You don't end up with an "obesity epidemic" without over sugaring your sweets.

[-] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 20 points 6 days ago

Nah. You get obesity by explicitly designing your food to be extremely addictive but not filling. Hit those pleasure centers without hitting the fullness cues.

It's science, baby!

[-] Perky@fedia.io 12 points 6 days ago

You don't get an obesity epidemic by over-sugaring your sweets. You get an obesity epidemic by over-sugaring everything else.

[-] Malica@lemmy.zip 2 points 6 days ago

But corn syrup is just so cheap and addictive 🤷‍♀️

[-] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 2 points 6 days ago

That's part of it, but I'm led to understand that the main driver here is poverty. The poor but not starving tend to not have the time or energy (among other things) to cook so they end up reliant on calorie-dense fast food and the like.

[-] Cassa@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 6 days ago

Yea, tbh the whole ration pack was full of it. Surprising considering it goes to soldiers 🤷

[-] Truscape@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 5 days ago

That actually is a result of the military establishment circa 80s and beyond realizing that giving soldiers food that they enjoy eating (and can carry easily) rather than the cheapest canned goods money could buy in bulk was both good for morale and helped ensure they ate the whole thing (back in the vietnam war a substantial amount of soldiers did not carry all of the cans with them to meet nutritional requirements or ditched undesired components constantly).

Um what this is a thing already and has been for like.. half a century at least?

[-] Fontasia@feddit.nl 1 points 2 days ago

I don't know what would bring someone to add Nesquick to water

[-] over_clox@lemmy.world 9 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

Hot Pockets, now filled with Nesquik powder..

Obligatory fuck Nestlé though

[-] Truscape@lemmy.blahaj.zone 15 points 6 days ago

Counterpoint: current Humanitarian Aid Rations have milkshakes included in the civilian MRE pouches

[-] affenlehrer@feddit.org 6 points 6 days ago

Humanitarian sounds like radical left ideology!

[-] Simulation6@sopuli.xyz 1 points 4 days ago

Don’t you need to add ice cream to make a shake?
On a side note, I put a frozen banana in a blender with some almond milk and coca powder and it tastes great.

[-] aSaabD00d@lemmy.today 5 points 6 days ago

I mean, we do have astronaut ice cream. It's not exactly the same but tastes pretty good.

[-] Wolf314159@startrek.website 2 points 5 days ago

Aren't most milkshakes and soft-serve "ice cream" bought in any number of businesses essentially just that very thing? Corporate America has already figured this out, they just don't want you to see how the sausage is made.

[-] AnAverageSnoot@lemmy.ca 4 points 6 days ago

Isn't that basically just protein powder?

[-] TrackenDaKracken@lemmy.world 4 points 6 days ago

If you have a freezer, real milkshakes are much better.

[-] Malica@lemmy.zip 3 points 6 days ago

They do have those though? There's the astronaut ice cream sandwiches too.

[-] DarkCloud@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

Just buy malt powder... Add it in a ratio to your powdered milk.... Then eat it.

Or blow it up a hooker’s asshole for a fun night.

[-] DarkCloud@lemmy.world 1 points 6 days ago

Sugar is one hell of a drug.
