IVPN all the way?

[-] paranoia@feddit.dk 43 points 11 hours ago

All you have to do as a CEO is shut the fuck up and let your product do the talking. The less I hear about your shit views the more likely I am to stay with your product.

[-] reka@lemmy.world 4 points 7 hours ago

The issue is to become a successful CEO you tend to have to believe your own lies and very quickly surround yourself with sycophants. Whats more if you buck this trend you tend to limit your skillset as societally we reward bullshit more than results.

South Park really got it right this season lol

Was thinking of switching after the BS from last year. My subscription ended this month and I’ve finally finished changing my services. Also did not want everything in one basket.

[-] flerbshmerd@lemmy.world 7 points 9 hours ago

Finally migrated to Proton in July, cancelled yesterday; had paid for the full year but have already started moving.

I was so happy to be supporting a company I believed in and was looking forward to the services getting better and better... Then the crap started to kick off: re-interviews for all, with us or against us mentality, cancelling the re-interviews, doubling-down and insulting your team, behaving like a petulant child. Then Bart posted the tone-deaf AI manifesto...and that seems to be it so far...

I get that AI is here, I get that the cat is out of the bag. It's fair to suggest that it is no longer possible to not use AI in the codeflow... For me this less about AI=good/Bad, more about attitude and behaviour; and how that shapes the ethos.

[-] Lanske@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago

Where are you moving to?

[-] Adrien_0715@lemmy.ml 14 points 15 hours ago

On a side note, he's smart for letting a lot of people back out of Proton services. The VPN speeds are better now.😆

[-] mousefad@lemmy.dbzer0.com 32 points 20 hours ago

Slagging off his employees, slagging off his customers. Real bright spark this guy.

[-] Floon@lemmy.ml 30 points 20 hours ago

Yeah, I canceled my sub. I have no idea if the CEO of my new email provider is any better, but I know that Yen is abusive to his employees, and that matters to me. I know he's deep in the throes of AI psychosis, and that makes me not trust him at all. I'm gone.

[-] modus@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

The services I use could be run by child-raping centaurs for all I know. But they keep their mouths shut and stay in the shadows. Ignorance is bliss.

[-] victorz@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago

What did you end up switching to?

[-] ShotDonkey@lemmy.world 14 points 20 hours ago

Posteo mail, excellwnt provider, good ethics https://posteo.de/en

[-] victorz@lemmy.world 0 points 4 hours ago

More expensive per GB than Tuta, for those wondering.

[-] AlSweigart@lemmy.zip 51 points 1 day ago

The original 404 Media article.

404 Media is a great publication with a strong track record. They are worth paying for.

[-] mfed1122@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago)

So true, they've really been rapidly climbing in my books over the last year especially. One of my favorite news sources rn. Would love recommendations for ones of similar quality outside tech, for any topics?

[-] switcheroo@lemmy.world 13 points 19 hours ago

I'm so glad I delayed switching over to proton.

Also fuck that guy. What an ass.

[-] victorz@lemmy.world 1 points 11 hours ago

What did you end up switcheroo-ing to?

I went with Tuta because of the value/GB. Also they feel fully committed to the users' rights and privacy.

[-] dasrael@lemmy.zip 49 points 1 day ago

When someone shows you who they really are, believe them the first time. And sadly, this is who Proton is right now, this guy. And this is who the Proton board is, people who support this guy and his vision.

This is proton. Shop accordingly.

[-] Bluedragon012@lemmy.world 4 points 16 hours ago

Canceled mine. Only did it for a month when Mulvad had their shit exposed. Lord. I feel for those who have to fully migrate.

[-] ChaoticEntropy@feddit.uk 20 points 23 hours ago

I feel like a good rule of thumb for Andy to say something, seemingly publicly or privately, is to just take a breath and then shut the fuck up instead. It seems like nothing he ever says brings comfort and confidence to his company's users.

[-] mefisdo_dot_info@lemmy.ca 24 points 1 day ago* (last edited 21 hours ago)

Too late Andy. You are not going to be part of the tech overlord aristocracy, no matter how much you simp now.

Maybe it's a good thing for you. May avoid the french doctor's invention that way.

[-] anarchy79@lemmy.world 14 points 23 hours ago

Some people should just never hold any sort of power. Most people shouldn't, but some motherfuckers in particular.

[-] bold_omi@lemmy.today 82 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Everyone go vote at their feedback website. There are several posts in the General Suggestions section that suggest Andy Yen step down. Mark them as critical.

This guy sounds like a Mini Musk and I hate Musk.

[-] xemi@lemmy.world 6 points 19 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago)

After an employee suggested taking at least a few days to pentest newly written code before pushing it live, Yen reportedly responded by calling the idea “bullshit and loser thinking,” saying it is possible to both be fast and secure.

This guy might just be hamming it up to fluff up his resume for Grok AI or something

[-] TrackenDaKracken@lemmy.world 50 points 1 day ago

It's a bit surprising how many CEO's express disdain for their users and employees.

When employees are reduced to an "input resource" number on a spreadsheet, and they sit insulated from user complaints, and likely surround themselves with sycophants, I suppose it's inevitable.

Power corrupts, you can see it all around us once you start looking.

[-] echodot@feddit.uk 41 points 1 day ago

Power corrupts, you can see it all around us once you start looking.

Yes, but also the corporate world has a nasty tendency to promote psychopaths to CEO positions because they think a lack of humility is the same as competence.

I am, once again, offering to take over as CEO of Proton.

My work focuses on nonprofit-stakeholder-government relations. Specifically how organizations mediate between state agencies and stakeholders. No agenda beyond aligning mission, vision, and values, and keeping it that way.

Reach out if you prefer that to help guide Proton somewhere other than the trash bin of distrust.
