Not asking about achievements in work/love/health/etc. but about your esence as a person. Like how you wish people would describe you.

I want to be me, I am me, I'd say it's going well.

[-] victorz@lemmy.world 1 points 14 hours ago

Came to post the same answer. Comfortable in being me, and looking forward to keep improving myself incrementally. But the fundamentals are in place, IMO.

[-] Fizz 1 points 22 hours ago

Good question. Lots of interesting answers here.

Physically im not as fit as I'd like. I want to look like a roider but I dont want to roid. My ideal build is the guy in the gas mask leaning on the gate. I'd like to be someone who dresses nice and puts effort into looking good but I'm just not that guy no matter how much I want to be.

Organisation wise I'm significantly behind. I want to on top of everything, having a plan for the next 6 months buying gifts ahead of time, making lunch for work every day. But I'm battling to get the rubbish out each week and missing any event I'm not directly reminded about. I cant plan to save my life I cant even follow cooking instructions.

Mentally im close to where i want to be. I'm generally pretty content which is my biggest problem I don't feel the need to go do uncomfortable things. People say im smart but they have low/no expertise so its not satisfying they don't that im far away from where i want to be. One day I'd like to be at the point where someone i lookup to is impressed with my work.

It's a hard question because i have no idea how others view me. It's hard for me to understand others. all I can do is put my thoughts in their body and then evaluate myself only using what i know they know. When people speak of me it's a completely unrecognisable person to me.

I want to be a somewhat competent human. I am not even close to achieving that.

[-] zxqwas@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

I'm pretty close to being who I can bother to be. I should be better at visiting family, I should be better at talking to my friends, but anything involving people exhausts me.

[-] CanadaPlus@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 1 day ago

The way I act, is pretty close to how I'd hope anyone would. It has a cost, so I'm willing to just say that, even though it's a bit of a brag.

The actual impact is still pretty small. I guess I wish I was better at things, so it would matter more.

[-] Zikeji@programming.dev 7 points 1 day ago

I don't want people to have glowing opinions or me or even be overly impressed. What I do want them to describe me with is that I cared. Maybe not for them, but in general. "He's quiet and detached, but his actions showed he cares in his own way."

I spend time around holidays creating little gifts for my dentist, doctor's office, co-workers, and other places I visit. Why? Partly because I want to make a difference. I want to make an impact. Did my little gift brighten someone's day? If it did then it was worth it. If it didn't then better luck next year.

A selfish part of me wants it to be an expectation. That if I ever die or move on they might wonder why I stopped. That I might be remembered for it. I guess it's just my way to leave my mark on the lives of those around me.

totally not doing what I intended work wise. meant to do reasearch and teach at the collegiac level and did IT work instead. Love never had really thought about it. I mean thought I might meet someone and have kids. Did meet someone and I think we have about as good a relationship as anyone. No kids and that was definately a decision we made and agree on. Did not think to much about health. Who I am as a person is about where I would want to be excpet I have this obsession with truth and its been much more elusive. I mean to the point of it being kinda tilting at windmills.

[-] RedstoneValley@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 day ago

I never wanted to be anything, and I was exceptionally successful at that so far. :/

[-] braindead_hottie@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

I want to be free from social expectations of who I should be.

[-] TabbsTheBat@pawb.social 6 points 1 day ago

I just want to be authentically me, and I think im pretty good at that :3

[-] zoltanshields@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago

I don't have an end goal.

At my current stage of life I'm trying to have a closer relationship with my nieces and nephews who are entering early adulthood.

My early 20s were probably the hardest period of time in my life, and older adults were particularly critical of me when I looked for guidance. So now I'm trying to be a better listener when they're struggling.

[-] grillgamesh@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I'm already me. why would I want to be anyone else?

seems a bit conceited to me, to want to be something you're not. leave that to the actors and the actresses, just be yourself. its perfectly okay to be yourself and nothing else.... after all, it just takes some time, little girl, you're in the middle of the ride. everything, everything, is gonna be alright (alright). above all else, just never let them distract you from that time in nineteen ninety eight when the undertaker threw mankind off hell in a cell and plummeted sixteen feet into the announcers table.

[-] jeena@piefed.jeena.net 5 points 1 day ago

Hm, I want to be the stoic guy who is reliable. I think with the reliability I'm quite close, the stoicism - hm - yeah depending on how close something is I sometimes get really affected and can't stay stoic, so still some work to be done.

[-] Pat_Riot@lemmy.today 3 points 1 day ago

I want to be me. I am here. People should describe me carefully.

Wise and kind! It's an eternal WIP but there have definitely been some developments, especially regarding my mental health and ideology/understandings, and overall maturity... I think my neurodivergence, combined with childhood trauma, created some hills I had to climb, and it has also shaped me irreversibly, but I find I have enough free will to make accumulating changes.

My family and friends often come to me either to have a shoulder to cry on or for advice, even my co-workers (some of them are my friends now as well) will open up, expecting what my vibes are selling, I guess, and I always find it endearing (couple of times it's been shocking and kinda made me panic as in "what do I say here?!" but that's how it goes sometimes). I think people find me at least reliable and understanding (which does not discount me being weird AF in some areas, sometimes annoying or even, rarely, hurtful, and that's the whole package), which is not bad already.

[-] Onyxonblack@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 day ago

I wish I had the ultimate super-power. The power to be a physical ghost. The ability to grasp and touch only what I want. Everything else just phases through me incorporeal-like.

Then I go and burn down every single church in the world, and I hunt down every single fascist and billionaire. I kill them slowly screaming on live tv. I declare the world free of Capitalism and vow to return to destroy any who covet money or gods.

Well that's the dream anyway!

[-] bridgeenjoyer@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago

I care more about accomplishing and learning things. I'm me and as long as I'm not an asshole, I don't see a reason to try to be someone I'm not.

[-] insanemantis@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I am, by nature, a naive and eager person. I am also on the autism spectrum

I have spent my entire life trying to feel included, trying to see the best in people and yearning for friends and good times

I've used my weird sense of humor, my hyper spirit, and my childlike energy, at about as late as the age of 23, to try to amuse others. And for a bit maybe I did

But now, I wish to be different. I wish to be reserved, more brooding for a change. I wish I could be less chipper and SpongeBobesque, because it's done nothing but embarrass or hurt me

I'm turning 25 now, growing out my first beard. It's been a couple of years since I abruptly stopped acting that way. Life feels dull now, but I still feel like if I can just prove to the world that I'm not weak and childlike, then maybe I can win in some small way

[-] bridgeenjoyer@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago

Reads very similar to me. I'm mid 30s and still a kid, dont really care what others think, I'm not gonna be a boring ass adult. Lost a lot of friends due to them bring boring as shit and ignoring me. Not a big deal, I make more friends.

(Note that this doesnt mean being irresponsible and immature. I mean not giving in to having a TV in my bedroom so I can watch football and the news all day after work then sleep, and never do anything else. No thanks. )

I also can't grow a beard lol.

You do you but dont change yourself because you think its wrong. Unless that makes you happy.

[-] insanemantis@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

I'll never be a football guy that's for sure. But yeah I'm still trying to figure myself out. Nothing wrong with eccentric maturity I suppose. Still be a silly little shit but don't overdo it?

[-] bridgeenjoyer@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago

People also used to make fun of me for being goofy and autistic, still do, and I don't really give a shit now.

Like I said you be you, maybe if you feel like changing it up see how you like it but dont force yourself to be a dark brooding person if thats not you at all. Just my opinion

[-] partial_accumen@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Life feels dull now, but I still feel like if I can just prove to the world that I’m not weak and childlike, then maybe I can win in some small way

You'll discover in the years ahead that the secret is not caring what the world thinks. You don't need to prove to the world anything. You can find yourself, decide what values are important to you, and then live your live according to your definition of whats right. When people say "be true to yourself" this is what they're talking about.

There's a step beyond this too. When you know whats important to you, you make a real evaluation of who you are and what you do. You decide if your actions and behaviors match your values. If not, you work to make improvements in yourself. You do it because its important to you and not someone else. Improvements like these can be difficult adopt. You don't have to do it all overnight. Some improvements aren't a one-and-done but rather a way of living. I'm positive I'll go to my grave continuing to try to be a better version of myself, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Each day take the action that, at the end of each day, makes you proud of yourself. The race is long, but only ever against the old version of yourself.

I'm happy with my identity, but thanks to political persecution and lots of international moves my stability has always been shaky

[-] Sir_Premiumhengst@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Strive toward being the pest person possible. It's a CIP: continuous improvement process.

While having 5 minutes, think about what worked well and how you caused that. If something did bit work out, try finding out why and what you can change, take a bite, try it differently, reassess.

Traveling? Bring a list for packing. Important: at the end of the journey, make a note of the things you didn't use so you avoid carrying more in the future. Cooking? Weigh out how much salt you use, think whether you like the taste, adjust, take note. Gardening? Take not which plants wen where and when. Take not then have a good long thought in two months to see if everything worked. Especially observe what worked suboptimally and try differently. And so on. Something something madness is doing the same thing over a d over again...

[-] snooggums@piefed.world 1 points 1 day ago

pest person

Life goals!

[-] Monster96@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

I'd say I'm who I need to be. To be at least tolerated by others, I was taught to be friendly, kind, and accepting of others so that's what I try to be. In terms of who I want to be? I never had a goal so I'd say I'm where I need to be.

[-] Fallibilist@feddit.uk 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

No one is stopping me from becoming a different person if I wanted to so the fact that I'm not taking dramatic steps to change indicates that I'm probably roughly where I want to be.

I do admire people like Andrew Camarata for their work ethic, but again - nothing is stopping me from doing the same, yet I don't, so maybe I just want the results, not what it actually takes to get there.

My role model is Snufkin character from the Moomin cartoon/anime. A quiet, humble, independent professional.

[-] tomjuggler@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

I guess I always thought of myself as someone who never gives up. It's a blessing and a curse, I've achieved all my goals in life so far but I can be perceived as someone who is not very empathetic - because I tend to expect others to have the same attitude and don't give them the support they need.

Hopefully on the whole people can understand things from my perspective - but I'm too self reliant to care what others think most of the time..

[-] Eat_Your_Paisley@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Want to be a person accredited to the creation of european federalization/unity, known for being a true statesmen. I come from poverty and i know i wont have it easy bc of boomer politicians and the political dynasties, but i wont be demoralized just because the odds are against me. Spite is hell of a motivator!

VOLT is small, and with nationalists, fascists and even nazis being ever more a present and threat to democracy and peace in europe ever since 1950, and conservatives flirting with them like its the 1920s/30s it seems we are still faar from it but have to first defend/regain our sovereignity and democracy. But the idea of european federalism is growing.

[-] Broadfern@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I’m past the point of wanting to be, and more focused on what I want to do.

I’m actually pretty happy with who I am and a lot of that has come with age, wisdom, and having the support system to be more fully and bravely myself. I’m confident and happy enough to worry a lot less of others’ view of me because of that steady foundation. I also know that’s a massive privilege.

What I want to do is make other people’s lives better where I can. I want to share the advantages given to me, the resources I have, and leave things a little better in my wake than when I found them. I want to lift others up and see them grow and thrive. Whether or not people know or even remember that is not something I’m concerned with, because it’s the impact I care about.

I also want to enjoy the time I have while I have it. I know I’m only one person and can’t change the whole world by myself or at once and operate within that framework. And I’m mostly okay with that now.

[-] lime@feddit.nu 1 points 1 day ago

no idea. how do people even come up with that?
