I'm just happy people can stop telling me "we have to wait till after the election before we can do anything".

They're still not going to do anything, but now they gotta find a new excuse.

For a couple of weeks before the 2028 election season starts.

If that. There's already articles and polls speculating on the race. Hell, there was an article on here making a big deal over Trump not endorsing Vance for president, before the midterms had even happened. We are getting closer and closer to the eternal campaign season.

[-] Ryanmiller70@lemmy.zip 2 points 20 hours ago

It's like Christmas, but somehow even more annoying to hear about before the time it should be happening.

Almost every day for the last ten years, I've woken up sad about living in Texas. It's a feeling that's pervasive and oppressive, when your home is just wrong.

The best I'd ever hoped for is that one day Texas might get one thing right in the middle of all its bad decisions, but that's not what happened. Texas is fucking blue. So I'm having a great week.

Trying to carry on the work of their fallen brethren of Russia.

Personally I'm stoked for another two years of lib's fash collaboration and voter shaming.

[-] Denfa@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Where’s Jill Stein in all this? Are the Russian checks no good any more?

[-] VictoriaAScharleau@lemmy.world 2 points 22 hours ago

the Senate investigation found she didn't take any Russian money

[-] Denfa@lemmy.world 0 points 17 hours ago

AIPAC was my second choice

[-] halezinflames@lemmus.org 8 points 1 day ago

I forgot how fun these things can be when they actually go well

[-] thingAmaBob@lemmy.world 26 points 1 day ago

I’m realistic, but also allowed myself to be happy yesterday. Life should be enjoyed. I’m mostly excited about my local elections, as there is a much higher chances of things changing for the better in my state and county.

[-] treesapx@lemmy.world 16 points 1 day ago

I keep saying that this is just the start, but also as a Texan what a hell of a start.

[-] DonJefe@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

Howdy, neighbor! It felt great to wake up in a blue Texas!

[-] MangioneDontMiss@feddit.nl 7 points 1 day ago

wtf does "level set" mean in this context?

[-] cloudshouter@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 day ago

Reality check?
In reality I don’t think very many Blue voters have their expectations set too high, much less at 11. Most are just hoping the Dems will stop much of the bleeding with a stretch goal of pulling some of the glass out of the wounds. The haters are here saying there is no way Trump will actually get impeached and prosecuted but the blue voters are all say “yeah, we know”.

[-] I_Has_A_Hat@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Try telling people here or on reddit that it's essentially guaranteed that Schumer and Jeffries are going to lead the Senate and House. Even progressives like AOC are lining up to support them. A change.org petition isn't going to change that because change.org petitions never do shit.

[-] HalfSalesman@lemmy.world 27 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

I say that I hate the haters. But also my enthusiasm is dampened a little by the fact that we had to even experience this because people are soooo fucking stupid.

I literally talked to a middle aged gay man recently who admitted he barely understood what happened Tuesday "Oh we elected a new governor? Or something? What are midterms?"

Its like DUUUUDE THIS IS REALLY IMPORTANT HOW ARE YOU SO OBLIVIOUS???

[-] Denfa@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Kimmel did a man-on-the-street piece on Wednesday where they asked subjects if they intended to vote. Most had no idea the elections were over.

In my friend group the two people least interested in politics are a queer guy and a hispanic guy. The rest of us are straight white dudes. I am always baffled that they are not more invested as people who are more likely to be negatively impacted.

Present!

(Please I am begging you Americans to keep up the pressure! Keep going for woke!)

[-] Avicenna@programming.dev 25 points 2 days ago

Maybe find the middle ground? It is certainly a good reason to celebrate that republicans lost and Trump shuts up for once. It is also true that there are democrats that would just as well fit the republican party. But it is also sure as hell true that true progressives can only come out of democrats not republicans. So US should make it count, hold anti progressive, status quo democrats to account and root them out. Then it will become a flawless victory.

[-] rumba@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 day ago

hold anti progressive, status quo democrats to account and root them out.

That's where the win will be. We have succeeded in a temporary reprieve.

Celebrate? yes! But only as long as we dont dust off our hand and sit down job well done.

[-] bountygiver@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 day ago

Yup getting complacent is how Republican can still win 2028 and get Vance as president. Especially when many D voters are doing so because of living cost and it is probably not going to be fixed fast enough.

[-] rumba@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 day ago

I'm kinda hoping they get greedy, start infighting, and split their vote between Vance and someone who didn't let Trump just fly them into the ditch.

[-] Assassassin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 166 points 2 days ago

With the way they're acting, you'd think that these dudes wanted Republicans to maintain control. Like, I don't have a lot of faith in democrats to actually get the shit done that they need to, but the defeatism is absolutely absurd.

[-] CileTheSane@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 day ago

As a Canadian, I'm seeing too many people thinking everything can now immediately go back to "normal". None of the actual work has started yet.

Yes, absolutely celebrate this, but if you act like things are "over" you need a reality check. Americans voted against Trump in 2020, and then elected him again after seeing what he did the first time.

So yes, this is absolutely a great first step, but it needs to be followed with criminals being held accountable and Americans not voting the other way again in 2 or 4 years. Considering Democratic leaders are already talking about not holding criminals accountable it seems prudent to splash some water on people acting like this is over and they can stop pushing.

[-] Katana314@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

I was spending my time volunteering for Democrats campaigns, and I’m still barely enthused with the result.

It’s a very small step forward in a possibility of a government that works for its people. But anyone smart on here knows that goes much more fine-grained than the color maps.

(Red is obvious. But blue? Blue is still many shades of gray)

[-] Catoblepas@lemmy.blahaj.zone 76 points 2 days ago

I swear to god the double trauma of COVID and Trump during formative periods of some peoples’ lives made it pathologically impossible for them to take a win for even a day or two. That’s how you burn the fuck out. Don’t rest on your laurels, but making people feel like nothing is ever enough is how you get them to stop showing up.

I do feel like we’ve been here before though, when Obama and HOPE won so hard that there’d never be a Republican POTUS again, and then he conducted imperial BAU for eight years.

[-] A_Random_Idiot@lemmy.world 26 points 2 days ago

And we'll be here again, because people are morons that don't learn from their mistakes.

I have seen almost non-stop celebration today, acting as if Trump was done, Fascism was over, White Supremacy was gone, and that all has returned to right and good in the world.

These elected officials arent even sworn in yet. and wont be sworn in.. till january, and idiots are celebrating like jobs done don't have to worry about it anymore.

We have a handful of new democrats elected. We have a ton of old democrats that have no compunctions about siding with Republicans and letting Republican shit go through in exchange for that AIPAC/Big Business money. Just cause a lot of the seating chart is blue doesnt mean blue business will be done, nor does it mean red business will be stopped.

This shit isnt the fuck over. The shit is only just about to begin to get started.

Dems won, that's good. They have control of the senate which they haven't had for a while.

So here's my damper, there was anti-trans legislation passed in blue states and there was an increasing rise of anti-trans rhetoric within the Democrat candidates. I do not want the establishment Dems and their think tanks to get the take away that they won by throwing trans people under the bus.

I'm still going to be critical of Dems, they have a lot to prove and should be spending these next couple months in meetings on how they deal with the fact Trump will veto everything they do. They will have to find a way to circumvent that veto pen or persecute Trump to the fullest extent possible as well as his regime.
