Hopefully the republican party dies, if they survive I hope it's by disowning MAGA. Unfortunately, I think prosecutions may be too much to hope for

[-] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago

I think "maga" is what has always been lying at the core of the conservative movement and the Republican Party is the party of that movement.

[-] uberdroog@lemmy.world 11 points 17 hours ago

Not enough jail time unfortunatly. They need to be neutered for generations

[-] kreskin@lemmy.world 8 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago)

Thats IF the "centrist" democrats dont take this opportunity to shit the bed and roll around in it. For .. I dunno, maybe some AIPAC bribes. If they do chose corruption then the voters will reject them and republicans will be back in the drivers seat. We're not even close to free from fascism and saved from the republic imploding yet.

I sure dont see any encouraging signs from Dem party leadership yet. Zero.

It's scandalous that they have any future that doesn't involve incarceration and asset forfeiture.

[-] popularpenguin@piefed.social 7 points 18 hours ago

Well let's see who they've elected in the last 50 years... Nixon -> Reagan -> Bush -> Bush -> Trump -> Trump

So probably an old white guy with fucking dementia, if I had to guess

They're going to say that the problem with Trump is that he didn't follow through on isolationism so they'll support someone like Vance or Carlson who promises to do real isolation, with "peace through strength" and then he'll invade Cuba or some shit and say he was just doing the strength part and they'll conclude that the problem was that Vance or Carlson didn't follow through on real isolationism and repeat and repeat and repeat, stockpiling "fell for it again" awards, only learning the lesson about the specific individual each time.

As long as the Democrats remain hardcore interventionists, the person at least claiming that they'll stay out of foreign conflicts will be seen as the "lesser evil," by many potential swing voters. The only possible way for the Democrats throw in 2028 is if they nominate a Zionist.

Right, the thing with conservatism is that it's a lot like the donnie cult. In donnie's cult, he could never fail, he could only be failed by his accomplices and supporters.

Conservatism works much the same way. It can never fail, it can only be failed. So, in the bigger picture, the cult can claim that donnie failed conservatism (after he's off the stage, that is).

[-] Objection@lemmy.ml 1 points 13 hours ago

I've been saying for years that if you actually want to fracture the right or peel voters away from them, you have to go after the libertarian wing. Democrats keep trying to target the neocon wing, because they think we're still living in the early 2000's where there was a bipartisan neocon consensus, and Trump is just an anomaly to that. The reality is that the wars in the Middle East discredited the neocon wing, they became deeply unpopular, and Trump emerged as a response to that trend. Now that Trump did neocon shit with Iran, and got these midterm results, the neocons are even more discredited than they were before.

The Democrats have to get ahead of the next "antiwar" Republican, be more antiwar than they are, and call out their incenserity. Running on being pro-war and trying to pick up the remaining neocon dregs that the GOP will be casting off would be a massive strategic blunder, and one that the conservative wing of the Democratic party is probably looking to make.

I really think that only an antiwar, antizionist progressive is electable.

Last time there was a great depression, Republican wasn't elected president for like 30 years or something.

[-] chronicledmonocle@lemmy.world 13 points 23 hours ago

I have some ideas

[-] kmartburrito@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago

Hopefully prison

[-] BuckFutter@timeyak.com 21 points 1 day ago

Hopefully it’s a serious reckoning for supporting a pedophile.

[-] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago

I have to think donnie is crashing TF out when he sees headlines like this one.

It's one thing to be hated - he gets to "own the libs" - but getting ignored and being talked about as if he's in the past? He fucking hates that.

He was super butthurt when media was calling him former President after Biden won, LOL.

[-] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 1 points 3 hours ago

Maybe he'll do what Hitler did when his power was finally taken from him

[-] Assassassin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 1 day ago

Prison, hopefully

I've mentioned before what the GOP could look like in a decade or two after Trump's influence is removed. I hold the belief that each Republican president will push further until one of them drops a nuke. Like, if Trump pulled his J6th stunt in 1993 to overthrow Clinton and install Bush Sr. for a 2nd term, Bush Sr. would've been onboard with tossing Trump in jail, right? And even Bush Jr. wasn't stupid enough to attack Iran. So with that in mind...

It might take a GOP president or two, but I think that a 764 (or equivalent) president is coming - a president so awful that Trump looks like a perfect guardian for your child in comparison. You know, a president who wants the destruction of order and society because he doesn't just see the US as corrupt and evil, but all human societies as corrupt and evil, and in need of immediate destruction. The rich would support this president's rise because the president would support the destruction of China, along all other competitors to American business, and would show some results during the campaign by adopting 764-tier tactics to murder innocent people abroad.

This president would view Trump's tendency to TACO as a sign of a Democrat plant in the Republican Party, and would promise to exterminate every living thing in Iran as revenge when elected. Then this president would nuke Iran and laugh when the rest of the world is horrified. And then nuke anyone who tries to retaliate, because killing anyone this president doesn't like in horrible ways is this president's goal.

Only way to prevent presidents like this from appearing is to make the US a better place to live. 764-esque organizations prey on the mentally ill and desperate, so making the US a great place to live will stifle their recruitment.

[-] MagicShel@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 day ago

Mate, stop getting high and watching Captain Planet reruns. It's unhealthy.

You are talking about folks who are profoundly mentally ill and radiate malice. They might become a Steven Miller, but they could never get elected. It's like the same dill holes who think they are going to get elected ina platform of fascism and then suddenly unmask like muahaha! I've been a secret socialist all along!

And the James Bond villains that would need to support them are fucking morons. Musk is the closest we can come and look at how fucking stupid he is. And useless. He blew half a billion dollars and accomplished nothing.

If these fucking minty-fresh suppositories destroy civilization, it'll be by accident, not part of some Machiavellian plot. Someone will invent a way to transmute oxygen to Bitcoin and it's all over. That's the worst they can do.

[-] baronvonj@piefed.social 7 points 1 day ago

The current tech bros and Trump all legit seem like Captain Planet villains.

[-] I_Jedi@lemmy.today 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

But I ENJOY the Captain Planet reruns! The Season 2 finale is amazing.

[-] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Why do you think conservatives fight so hard against things like science, education and universal healthcare?

Conservatives don't want a well-educated and happy populace. They want people miserable and stupid enough to buy into the kinds of narratives Faux pushes on those ignorant and desperate enough to fall into that spiral.

[-] I_Jedi@lemmy.today 1 points 1 day ago

Yeah, and making people miserable and stupid just feeds into 764's numbers. It's awful.

[-] PP_BOY_@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Literal fearwanking but this sounds pretty cool to me if it actually happened. Humanity is a blight. Nuke the whole world, just don't do it for the wrong reasons (petty appeal-to-god racism).

Crap shoot between malevolent and capable fascist or they get another dumb personality. The kind of people that go to republican primaries have been absolutely unhinged.

[-] 13igtyme@startrek.website 3 points 1 day ago

Continue to be pieces of shit. Push white supremacy harder. Spin up more propaganda and distractions. Focus on enraging the voters on matters that don't actually affect them, but make them think they do.

They'll be back at the same bullshit by spring. I've seen this before.
