Welcome to today’s daily kōrero!

Anyone can make the thread, first in first served. If you are here on a day and there’s no daily thread, feel free to create it!

Anyway, it’s just a chance to talk about your day, what you have planned, what you have done, etc.

So, how’s it going?

Had a long roadtrip with extended family over the summer break - pretty knackered after that.

Then rolled straight into adopting an older cat - the latest purchase today was a Water Fountain, as she dosent seem to want to drink.

Good on ya. Older cats are great.

I don't have the patience for kittens anymore. SPCA cats are the best.

Haha same, I've always preferred slightly older cats to kittens. Too much energy for my liking 😂

Back at work today.

It is quiet; but getting busier.

First time back on Lemmy in a while.

How have things been going team?

A 5 day week after a break? You're keen!

Things have been quiet around Lemmy.nz, but I've also been a little absent, busy with extended and immediate family all visiting. My Mum has been visiting since before Christmas, heading home tomorrow. And taking two kids! I'd be excited if I didn't have to go back to work tomorrow.

Same - Took a break from Lemmy over the holidays, back into it now that I've got to work haha.

Thinking about some home improvements. My house has a quirky layout - a laundry room with a shower, a bathroom with a sink and a bath I've never used, and a separate toilet. I was thinking about moving the shower into the bathroom and ditching the bath for starters.

A question for you fine people, would you expect a bath? I don't know anyone who uses them these days.

Baths seem completely superfluous, but from what i've been told, if you've got kids especially younger ones they're very necessary. So its the sorta thing you'd potentially be encouraged to keep for future sale-ability.

So, when we were renovating our bathroom, we actually added a bath - couldn't fit a separate one so its shower over bath but apparently that's better than not having a bath at all.*

Yes I agree, a bath is pretty necessary if you think your audience may be first home buyers (who are typically younger and may be thinking of having a family, or have young kids).

With that said, how long are you planning on staying? If you think you'll be there for the next 10 years, I'd probably do the bathroom you want then deal with it later. I wouldn't put up with something you don't want for 10 years for the sake of a sale far in the future, I wouldn't expect it would affect the price enough to be worth the inconvenience.

I'm on a large horticulture block in Kerikeri and I'm spending my days planting it up with rare subtropicals, so it's not like I'm planning on moving any time soon.

If it's your main shower, if I were you I wouldn't put in a bath. Put in a proper shower, enjoy it, and then when or if you eventually go to sell, ask the agent about it. If they think it will help to put in a bath, then do it then.

I wouldn't expect one, but a bath was on my tick-list for when we bought this place. It's so nice to have the option in winter.

[–] Ilovethebomb 2 points 10 months ago

Even if you don't use it yourself, a bath is useful for bathing children and animals, so even a half bath would be useful.

Anybody else unable to post, and then while trying sign-out / sign-in unable to auth to mastodon.nz at the minute?

[–] Dave 1 points 10 months ago

Hmm, seems to be working for me.

I was given a reasonably large jar of homemade apple jelly for Christmas. What are some uses for it? I'm guessing pork roast, but it would take a lot of pork roasts to use it all. Other ideas?

Ah yeah, a fruit jelly with crackers and cheese, that makes sense. Thanks!

It's great being back at work this early, almost no traffic, parking everywhere, everyone is still chilled out from the break. I've got trips planned for later in the year, so I'm saving my leave for that.
