Agree, I watched it and it was good enough to get to the end, but it's nothing stand out, especially compared to IASIP and silicon valley.
Yeah I mean it was fine but missing the spark of both those shows.
Yeah I've started it because of this post and I like it because it has all the ingredients for me (office life I can laugh at now that I'm out of it, MMORPG to relive my glory days from WoW, great actors I love, etc), but it's definitely missing the special sauce that made these two other shows much more special, it's hard to pinpoint exactly though.
I like it. It's generally a decent workplace comedy, kind of a Silicon Valley with the edges filed down (and occasionally the serial numbers filed off), and then every once in a while they hit you with some awesome writing, though it's perhaps telling that two of their strongest episodes (s1 and s2 stand-alones) have absolutely no one from the regular cast, and the s2 one has some great work from Silicon Valley's Josh Brener. I gather people actually in game development don't find that aspect very realistic.
I wouldn't subscribe to Apple TV for it, but it's worth checking out. I do think the shine is off the rose with man-child tech entrepreneurs since the show was first developed, though.
man-child tech entrepreneurs
I was watching it for Poppy Lee.
Fair, and Charlotte Nicdao deserves more parts in bigger projects, but Ian is definitely, on net, a character we're supposed to root for while many of his real world inspirations are... not.
To be honest the first time I watched S1, I sort of read him as more of a deuteragonist, he's so ridiculous. I only really warmed to him once Poppy does.
There are so many characters with preposterous personalities - him, CW, Brad... for me Poppy's trajectory is the A plot and the testers are the main B plot.
That doesn't mean it's what the writers necessarily intended, though.
Well damn, it's on Apple TV, the one service I don't have.
arr..?

Also David Hornsby, aka Rickety Cricket. He's a writer and executive producer for both Mythic Quest and Sunny.
Yeah that's a solid rec.
If you're watching it for the first time make sure you watch the 2 special episodes between S1 and S2; it really adds to it.
I recently tried to get a boomer uncle into IASIP and started with episode 1. Don't be like me. Second try was with my aunt and her husband and "Hundred Dollar Baby". Jackpot. They stayed for another episode which was of course "Sweet Dee has a heart attack".
I hate 'Sunny' but like this show. For the other dozen people who can't stand 'Sunny'.
Edit: I also love Silicon Valley
What do you like about Mythic Quest and dislike about IASIP?
There's actual likable characters in Mythic Quest. People I can root for and empathize with.
Everyone in Sunny is an irredeemable sociopath. I know that's the point, but shows/movies that are only about those kind of people aren't my cup of tea. I passionately love the balet episode, however. 95% the dance scene, but still :]
It took me a while to adjust to iasip. It's similar writing but iasip has a plot requirement of the characters getting in their own way which leads to unsatisfying resolutions. And there's a lot more yelling. Megan gatz is awesome
It's interesting because MQ is definitely still working specifically with severely flawed characters, but it also goes out of its way to make them feel redeemable in a way, too. At times it comes off as a bit contrived or phony, but I think it works for the tone of the show overall.
I just caught up on this series and I enjoyed it quite a lot. I was particularly struck by how disparate it is in seasons 2 and 3, like it's trying to be several distinct shows/stories in one. While that's usually a bad characteristic, I think MQ manages to pull it off, which is cool. Overall it's a good show, and pretty unique, which is hard to come by.
Gross Apple TV... What is used for torrents these days? Been a while...
I like kodi with the crew
Got this show off of 1337x
Showrss.info is what I've been using for years. Rarbg is also still around via various domains.
It's Apple...not a chance in hell
