Welcome to today’s daily kōrero!

Anyone can make the thread, first in first served. If you are here on a day and there’s no daily thread, feel free to create it!

Anyway, it’s just a chance to talk about your day, what you have planned, what you have done, etc.

So, how’s it going?

I used to enjoy the match threads at reddit so here's another for Lemmy.

Welcome to the first ever lemmy.nz photo challenge! Also the first time I've tried anything like this so bear with me while I make it up as I go along. With any luck I'll find some prompts that'll fit everyone but definitely chip in if you have ideas or have run forum challenges before.

Rules? Rules! (but not many)

  • It has to be a shot that you've taken yourself, I guess. There are posts all over the net sharing other peoples' efforts but this is more about doing it yourself.
  • No NSFW, since that tends to open all sorts of issues around content control and this is meant to be a bit of fun.

Okay, we're starting off with a cliche this week, because I'm all for easing into things:

It looks like instead of pinging carelessness, we will soon be keeping people to the speed limit.

With the reducing of speed limits being pulled, at least this will give another way to reduce the impact of crashes.

Unlike the comment on reddit saying this won't reduce crashes, I'm going to point out that it's not designed to. Road to zero is about recognising crashes will happen, this move is about reducing the damage when crashes inevitably occur.

Regular - 3rd Wednesday of every month - lunchtime street cleanup.

Come join the Sustainability Trust crew on your lunch break and make a difference.

We'll spend roughly an hour out on the streets and waterfront with our litter pickers making the pavements a waste-free zone.

You're welcome to join us for as little or as long as you like, just pop along to Sustainability Trust HQ @ 12 pm and do your bit to help make Welly waste-free. The more hands the merrier!

Remember to wear comfy shoes, bring a hat and plenty of water. We will have plenty of sunscreen and sanitiser available and will provide everyone with litter pickers and buckets.

These litter pickups take place on the third Wednesday of every month.

I was hoping to go along but sick children make that unlikely, but maybe others might be interested?

Like if somehow the minor parties (Act, Greens, NZF, the cult party, TOP, etc) got enough votes and then also decided to join against both major parties? It would be a total mishmash and would never happen but what do you think would happen if we hopped into bizzarro world?

How about those nerves...

One of the great games in recent history.

Let's look on the bright side. The people voted this way (quite significantly) so they must be seeing something positive there. I already know all the downsides so let's discuss the upsides.

Voted early the past two elections but I decided that for the first time ever, I'd do it on the day

The Phoenix kick off their season with a home game at the cake tin on Sunday. I believe this will be one of only two games they'll play at the Stadium - with the rest being at smaller venues around the Wellington region.

Be really cool to see a decent crowd there for this first game. I'll be taking my kids who got really into the game during the world cup.

I didn't watch this start to finish but I agree with everything he's saying.

  1. The election won't change anything. I believe we'll still be stuck in the same situation for another 5 years.

  2. Too much immigration. Do we need to let people into the country just to stack shelves at Countdown and Chemist Warehouse? This isn't a skills shortage.

  3. Community solutions, instead of relying on Parliament

On that last point - I will be doing a mailbox drop this summer to spice things up a little. Voting in the election is a waste of time for me. I want to see more houses being built and it's not going to happen from the government. We need the council to **** off and stop pandering to boomers and rich property buyers. It's the council's fault that there is no private property available for purchase or rent, at a reasonable price. They used zoning regulations to scam my generation out of a good quality life.

David Palmer if you read this, I went to Northlands Mall last week and I saw a huge empty section near the main bus stop. This looks promising, but so far it's just grass growing there. As soon as the zoning changes and they allow high density near the malls, it's probably going to be a 6 storey apartment. At least that's my hope.

Stuff actually did a breakdown:

I guess his $60 is excluding restaurants?
