Or like, they could take up extra chores since they aren't having to spend a bunch of hours busy everyday earning rent money

Oh, well that's just part of living with others.
Negotiating all that is part of living with others, and none of our business outside of those households. At least I think, provided hneer has any point at all, that's what they are getting at.
As someone who is constantly begging my wife to chill the F out on prying into our adult children's free-time, provided their rooms are clean, agreed-upon chores done, they stay employed and/or in-school, this topic hits home for me.
I completely agree! It’s only a problem when there is no effort toward keeping up shared spaces. And then that’s a household negotiation type situation.
