Yeah I'm out. What kinda nonsense is this. What happened to the good old days, where companies would harvest and sell your data without you having to do anything?
Exactly, the amount of effort people will go to to save a buck is ridiculous. There's a power company that lets you buy power in advance, with all these discounts. It's been explained to me a few times, and always seems like far more trouble than it's worth. Same with AA smartfuel etc.
Some people really need to think about how much their time is worth.
The worst is when people queue up at petrol stations for hours to save a couple of dollars... Like, why not ride a bike or walk or something instead of driving if you've got that much time to spare...
Yup. Exactly. The queue at Gull often extends down the road.

That last part reminds me I saw this today.
If it brings you joy, who am I to judge?
Kiwis seem to love a gimmick.
Countdown Lego? New World kitchenware? A myriad of power and mobile companies with “free hours” and other schemes?
And it’s all designed to give the illusion of savings for the customer.
I assumed all these gimmicks were based on similar things from overseas, because humans love a gimmick.
NZ is the perfect guinea-pig market to test out gameification gimmicks before risking deploying them in a more important bigger market.
There wasn’t much in the way of gimmicks in England. Most places seemed to be focussed on cutting expenditure via whatever exploitative or customer-negative ways so that they could shave another 10p off the price of a bag of carrots.
But, there was actual competition so 🤷♂️
Pretty sure Australia has a lot of the same stuff.
I'm not gonna defend Countdown but I'm pretty sure there extra points above the standard per order earn rate.
Adding some gamification of their loyalty scheme.
