Federal lawmakers representing the Los Angeles region warned that the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games could be a congestion nightmare if the federal government doesn’t fulfill a request for billions of dollars for transportation projects.

Rep. Laura Friedman said Wednesday the lack of financial assistance could increase traffic, result in fewer buses and worsen public transit reliability during the Games.

“That will be a terrible result, not just for Los Angeles, but for the whole nation,” Friedman said.

DEVIGHAT, Nepal (AP) — Rescue teams searched on Thursday for hundreds of missing people along the Nepal-China border after a catastrophic and deadly torrent of floods and mud swept through several communities a day earlier following a glacier collapse.

The disaster left at least 168 people dead and more than 1,300 missing, including foreigners and pilgrims, and displaced hundreds of people across the Himalayan region.

The Trump administration announced that it is designating U.K.-based Palestine Action and two other left wing groups as global “terrorist” groups on Wednesday, escalating its McCarthyist crackdown against the left and the Palestine solidarity movement.

The administration is placing sanctions on Palestine Action, a direct action group that has worked to disrupt the pipeline of arms shipments to Israel amid the Gaza genocide. Trump has also targeted Italian tech collective Autistici/Inventati, which the State Department claims has ties to U.S. activists, and Masar Badil, an international group that works toward Palestinian liberation.

The sanctions are being issued under an executive order signed by President George W. Bush, which declared a national emergency to give the government the ability to target terrorist groups shortly after the attacks of September 11, 2001.

The sanctions freeze the assets of the groups in the U.S., including bank accounts, as well as prohibit individuals and institutions in the U.S. from doing business with them. International officials who have faced similar financial sanctions have described being completely unable to access any financial goods and services because of the U.S.’s heavy influence on the global banking and finance systems.

CORNELIUS, N.C. — A sheriff’s deputy is in fair condition after being pulled from his patrol car by bystanders following a crash in Cornelius Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Sheriff’s Department, the deputy was attempting to avoid a crash when the collision occurred.

Sheriff deputy was possibly responding to a call, tho it has not been confirmed, when he almost collided with a woman making a left turn. Deputy attempted to avoid her, but she swerved in the same direction and they collided. Woman got knocked into a tree, sheriff deputy got knocked into parking lot of a veterinary clinic, totaling 3 parked vehicles, and collided with a tree.

Staff of the veterinary clinic heard the commotion and went outside to check it out. Woman in the car was ok, Sheriff deputy was injured and bags fully deployed. His vehicle appeared to catch fire so staff broke the window and pulled him from the vehicle taking him into the veterinary clinic for triage while they waited for paramedics. Luckily one of the techs present was familiar with human medicine and was able to treat the injured deputy. The sheriff deputy is reportedly stable.

The federal judge, who cited Dolly Parton in his ruling, found that the state law violated the First Amendment.

In over a third of Illinois counties, cops, sheriffs, and even prosecutors helped federal immigration agents route at least 150 people into the deportation system since Trump returned to office, despite a state law intended to prevent such collaboration.
