Did you though? Looks like you nailed it me!

Yeah, this kind of job they probably screwed them in from the bottom.

[-] TheTechnician27@lemmy.world 25 points 2 months ago

It doesn't look like they screwed up.

[-] Yondoza@sh.itjust.works 8 points 2 months ago

I don't see counter sink holes on the surface, so they probably screwed up a lot.

[-] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 35 points 2 months ago

Absolutely lovely. Just a warning. I did this a few months back and got a good dent in mine dropping something from a height. The scuffs and dents I think add to its character, but keeping around a bit of the right color stain is a must.

[-] bizzle@lemmy.world 16 points 2 months ago

Great tip that I hadn't thought about thank you!

[-] SatansMaggotyCumFart@piefed.world 34 points 2 months ago

I have that exact same sink and faucet.

[-] ripcord@lemmy.world 35 points 2 months ago

Holy fucking shit that view

[-] qaz@lemmy.world 22 points 2 months ago

Great excuse to show off that beautiful view

[-] MML@sh.itjust.works 10 points 2 months ago

Everyone is talking about the view, meanwhile you got la llorona chilling staring at your house...

[-] SatansMaggotyCumFart@piefed.world 9 points 2 months ago

This would be one of those few times when a red circle would not be useless.

[-] MML@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 months ago

Left side, close to the bottom, I ~~think~~ hope it's actually a tree

[-] SatansMaggotyCumFart@piefed.world 4 points 2 months ago

Left side close to the bottom is a dishwasher.

[-] XeroxCool@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

Damn, I would have circled the wash cloth on the sponge cup

[-] reptar@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

Is that the name of a rock dragon? Cause wtf is going on here?

[-] Bluewing@lemmy.world 14 points 2 months ago

Having spent my life living in old farmhouses, the one I grew up in was half log cabin, all bets are off when it comes to remodeling. You do what you gotta do things the way you gotta do it. So there is no "bad job" here. You should be proud!

[-] Maeve@kbin.earth 14 points 2 months ago

Gorgeous old farmhouse. Reminds me of home. You did alright.

[-] bizzle@lemmy.world 16 points 2 months ago

It's an 1862, I love this house and will die here but old house problems 😅

[-] Maeve@kbin.earth 9 points 2 months ago

All the time, right? Drafty AF. Looks like you've done some floors. NGL, even though they're a pita, I love the original window. I remember as a kid being fascinated with the rope-pulley mechanism (no idea what that's actually called). I love the shiplap. And I know of the issues, but arsenic-treated lumber lasts a long time. I'm glad you're okay with it and hope you can stay on top of repairs. Thank you for good memories of a home overflowing with kinfolk, good, homegrown and home-cooked food, always too much to do and realizing it enough to sit on the porch and do nothing, when needed.

And they’re always covered in paint and don’t work anymore.

[-] Malyca@lemmy.zip 4 points 2 months ago

It's worth it, I love old houses. You can't get that kind of old growth wood anymore.

[-] BallShapedMan@lemmy.world 11 points 2 months ago

Looks amazing from here! What are the tops made of?

[-] bizzle@lemmy.world 17 points 2 months ago

They're espresso stained acacia that I got at Lowe's, I got a discount with my pro membership so that slaps

[-] TranscendentalEmpire@lemmy.today 10 points 2 months ago

Just a tip, buy another sealed pint of the stain for repairs. You'd be surprised how often lowes will discontinue wood stains or change suppliers all together. It's also a lot harder for them to match a stain than it is for them to match paint.

Depending on what you use to seal it, you're bound to get damage to the sealer and stain eventually. I have a kitchen bar that I made, you would be surprised how much damage you can do over time. I've tried a couple different seals on it over the years, they all have their ups and downs. In the end I think a French Polish with shellac is really nice for the kitchen mainly because it's easy to repair.

[-] BallShapedMan@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago

That's awesome! It's gorgeous.

[-] Zephorah@discuss.online 5 points 2 months ago

What did you use to seal those counters?

[-] Madzielle@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 months ago

acacia, my love

very jealous rn

[-] Bell@lemmy.world 11 points 2 months ago

Nice work! Going to add a backsplash?

[-] bizzle@lemmy.world 9 points 2 months ago

I am, there is a huge gap between the wall and the top 😂

[-] mushroommunk@lemmy.today 8 points 2 months ago

Nice thing about installing wood countertops yourself, of you did a bad job can always tweak it in the future. Looks good.

[-] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 8 points 2 months ago

Having also just installed, and then reinstalled, a sink just like that - I feel your pain.

[-] bizzle@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

I have to fix the hole, real tedious work

[-] HotsauceHurricane@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago

Don't put yourself down, you did great.

[-] 87Six@lemmy.zip 7 points 2 months ago

I pray that whoever shares that house with you will at least try to keep that nice. Mine looks like this after I got it new...

[-] Madzielle@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 2 months ago

Id be so mad. Wow

[-] dohpaz42@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

I have that exact sink. 😍 What kind of faucet is that?

[-] Malyca@lemmy.zip 6 points 2 months ago

I think it looks great! The wood adds a warmth you can't get with anything else. Protect them and they'll last a long time too.

[-] desmosthenes@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago
[-] P00ptart@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

It's beautiful, congrats!

[-] UltraMagnus0001@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

Butcher blocks are nice. I used one with epoxy for my bathroom counter and an island in the kitchen.

[-] Fmstrat@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

In the thumbnail I thought this was a confusing perspective and they were the floor.

[-] bizzle@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

Floor is next!

[-] Zephorah@discuss.online 2 points 2 months ago

Are those the ikea off the shelf counters?
