Has a more selfish man ever existed?

[-] GladiusB@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago
[-] shartgargle@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago

Real humans only.

[-] Rhaedas@fedia.io 137 points 2 days ago

But later on people who had been alive then had no idea he was like this and voted for him in three different elections.

[-] Steve@startrek.website 93 points 2 days ago

Yea but he promised to hurt the queers so all is forgiven.

[-] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 64 points 2 days ago

That's not fair, he promised to hurt a lot more than just the queers.

[-] ThePantser@sh.itjust.works 36 points 2 days ago

Yea he promised to get the brown and poors too.

[-] HumanOnEarth@lemmy.ca 15 points 2 days ago

Queers, browns and poor's covers just about all of it for them doesn't it? Add liberals and it's totally complete.

[-] Routhinator@startrek.website 18 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Don't forget the talk about sterilizing autistics and making them work on farms.

That one wasnt Trump, but someone in his or RFKs spheres.

EDIT: Ah yes, RFKs "wellness farms".

They knew. They didn't care.

[-] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 2 days ago

In 2024 they definitely knew. Zero excuse by then

[-] Rhaedas@fedia.io 8 points 2 days ago

Some of them are all about the actions from who is in power and don't care about the rest. I'm more referring to the ones who use the excuse "they didn't know he was like this". And I'll admit that there's some who will say that, then still support him anyway.

[-] SolacefromSilence@fedia.io 9 points 2 days ago

I'm more referring to the ones who use the excuse "they didn't know he was like this".

It's almost that if you take them at their word, rather than them being a fool for believing such things, that you are in-fact the fool who believes their ridiculous explanation for why they aren't a bad person.

You give them too much credit. You think they pay attention?

[-] Karjalan@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

It's frustrating but a laaaarge proportion of people who voted for him didn't pay attention to politics so didn't know, or care to look it up, and just bought the propaganda that "conservatives good for economy".

So when they were struggling under a non Republican, they voted that way.

It's dumb and frustrating, and I know there are plenty of people who do know and don't care, or support their horrible views... But a decent chunk didn't

[-] huppakee@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

It is easy to forget the indirect causes of him becoming president (twice), such as a failing opposition and the two-party system, corruption (as in large companies can buy policies), biased media, ever increasing polarisation, an economic system that puts the interest of the haves against the interests of the have-nots. I think most people here understand the situation in the US is not that of one evil mastermind who bedazzled everyone, but sometimes I do get the feeling people choose to take the easy way and consider his voting based stupid, self-centered or naive without consideration for the external circumstances. Not saying the voters aren't to blame, but there is a lot more at play than a little bit of propaganda by the Republican Party.

[-] Smeagol666@crazypeople.online 2 points 1 day ago

I'm kinda surprised at how few upvotes this comment has gotten, though I probably shouldn't be. I've hated Trump since before he was kissing the Clinton's asses. Too few people are willing to examine the idea of how shitty the Democrat corporatist whores had/have to be for us to end up with such a shit-stain as president.

Obama fucking ran on Med-4-All, then sold us (those who voted for him) down the river on day one. Every time I see the clip of him pretending to sip that glass of water in Flint while saying "this isn't a stunt" makes me want to punch him in his lying mouth. It puts me in mind of Malcolm X's fox and wolf analogy.

[-] lobut@lemmy.ca 23 points 2 days ago

Oh but he's just joking 🙄

It's just locker room talk!

He just tells it like it is!

You guys just can't take a joke!

Seriously fucking annoying sharing the same air as these morons.

[-] Malica@lemmy.zip 5 points 2 days ago

If I knew what a piece of shit he was growing up in California, they did too. For them, he's a feature, not a bug, because inside they're just like him.

[-] FatVegan@leminal.space 49 points 2 days ago

Woah this guy should be president and we ahould let him do whatever he wants. -americans for some reason

[-] MadBits@europe.pub 14 points 2 days ago

It would have been so good if it only were to happen in US, but it seems people worldwide are absolute shite and they keep electing this kind.

[-] chuckleslord@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago

When liberals keep selling far-right positions back to the masses, why would the masses bother voting for the people who only just started saying those things were issues, when they could listen to the people who've been saying it the whole time?

The reason why fascism is capitalism in decline. Capital captured politicians can't reverse course on policies that increase suffering for the benefit of profit, so they have no answers to the growing problems of profit-seeking without end. Fascists don't have answers either, but they don't have to worry about things like reality or political possibility when selling their version of the future. They just agitate, villianize outgroups, and win when liberals/centrists try to repeat their politics in an effort to chase the Overton window.

[-] III@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Almost like these kinds of politicians without morals or shame are all being organized and supported by others that somehow benefit from them... strange.

[-] chilicheeselies@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

Most people don't pay attention. They saw him say some funny stuff at a rally and then their mind was made up for the rest of their life.

Pepperidge Farms remembers pretty Goddamn well what he said.

"It was an amazing phone call. It was the second tallest, but now it's the tallest."

How anyone voted for this piece of shit to be president, TWICE, will forever be a mystery to me.

[-] Thebeardedsinglemalt@lemmy.world 14 points 2 days ago

Because they're

  • Racist

  • Exceptionally dumb

  • Sociopathically rich

[-] GladiusB@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

They voted three times. He just lost once.

Is the twin towers image AI????

[-] username_1@discuss.tchncs.de 25 points 2 days ago

Was he technically correct?

[-] cardboardboxfort@lemmy.world 90 points 2 days ago
[-] Hegar@fedia.io 35 points 2 days ago

He didn't say NY, he said tallest building in downtown manhatten.

That sounds more likely to be factually correct, but of course he's still a psychopathic narcissist who's clinincally incapable of understanding that other people feel pain.

[-] Steve@startrek.website 19 points 2 days ago

Also, “own” is unlikely to be a fact either.

[-] Peasley@lemmy.world 17 points 2 days ago

isn't Trump tower in Midtown? If you include Midtown as part of Downtown that covers pretty much every very tall skyscraper in the city

[-] Hegar@fedia.io 8 points 2 days ago

40 wall st was the address of the building being referenced, but i'm not super familiar with the layout of nyc.

That’s some “Joe hasn’t hit a home run since it was raining and Tuesday” stat guy shit, which tracks well enough given how it describes things, just make noise in front of a camera

[-] Routhinator@startrek.website 28 points 2 days ago

To drive this home, Trump tower is the 32nd highest building in New York

Dutch comedian Arjen Lubach made a preview of what Trump will say happened to him the coming years (spoiler: he's not done making things up): https://youtu.be/T1amNlMeqbA?t=232.

The first 2,5 minute are in Dutch, as he lists all the things Trump previously said about his whereabouts on 9/11.

Worth noting that it has actual English subtitles, not machine generated, and confirms OP's post.

I was there and when I saw Trump being carried out by those two burly firemen, my heart swelled that this great man had been saved, and I said to him, with tears in my eyes, "Sir..." (even THEN he commanded respect) "Sir, thank God you're alright." Then I touched the hem of his garment, he nodded, said "Bless you", and I'll never forget it.

[-] terranoid@lemmy.cafe 10 points 2 days ago

I saw him that day. He just winked at me and said, ẗ̸͔́̕h̶̤̽̿ĕ̴̞ ̴͕̀a̸͓̣͐b̵̩͆͗o̶͚͐̂m̶̠̩̈i̷̝͔͊͘ṅ̴̮͒ã̷͙̱t̴̗̼͒i̶̯̘͌͂o̸̠̎n̴̮̑ ̵̩̊w̵̠̬͘i̷̲͒̂l̵̪̀̆l̶͕̇͛ ̷̙͈͒̒b̴̎͜ē̸͚̮ ̷̘͐̌b̴͚̈o̷͉̙͒r̸̄͜ṇ̶͎̇ ̵̹̂ͅo̷̻͘f̴͈͍̂ ̴̣͌͋a̵͍̯͒ ̶̭́ḍ̷̦́̀e̸̪̎͘f̴̤̚͝ì̵̝͚ľ̴͉̰͑ḙ̵̺̐̅d̶̟̉ ̴̛̘̎v̶̰̱̚i̵̠̿̑͜ȓ̸͇̏g̸̯̍i̵̚͜n̵̗̽ ̴̺̺̍p̸͔̓r̵̰͑͝i̶̪̝͝ë̵̗̲́s̶̮͐͒t̶̥̘͋͌e̴͚͉̚s̷͖̽ś̶͙̍ ̶̪͍̑̋f̶̧̔r̷̤͑̚ȏ̴̞m̷̛̝͖̌ ̸̝̱̓͘a̸͚͈͗ ̴̡̒͑f̵͍̦̈́o̵͈͊r̴͓̓̄ë̶͙́͝î̷͓g̷̯͇̒n̴͔̆́ ̷̼͒̋ĉ̷̼̜̏o̴̫͊n̵̛̜q̴̖̍u̷͖̇̔͜è̷̼͙r̴̖̳̄è̷̞d̸͖͍̈́ ̴̝̦̐̅t̴̬̺̾r̶̥̟̋͝i̸̫͋b̷̟͙͠e̵̥̕,̶̟̐ ̶̢͌h̴̳̿́e̴̹̾ȑ̸̪ ̷̭͖̔̿d̶͍̈́͛͜r̷͓̞̍e̶̻̰̚s̴̺̈̓s̶͇̋ ̸̖̺͐p̶̞̐u̶̢͔͒͠l̴̙͗ͅl̴̠̑̓e̸̪͛d̷̰̮̄̈́ ̷̱̗͋ä̵̡͖p̵͇̗̅̽à̶̛͓r̸̤̆ẗ̸̖͗ ̷̲̙̓å̴̜n̶̖̥̎d̶̫͊ ̷̡͍̀͘h̶̻̽e̶̠͗̀ȓ̴͕͒ ̷͔̝͝l̵̢͋̂o̸̗̕i̶̗͠ṋ̸͇̂̾s̶̬̹̋ ̵̗͕̓s̵͖̚ǒ̵̤̬ḭ̶̈l̴̜̟̉̌e̴͈͒d̷̠̂͑ ̵̛̹́w̷̮̕î̴͈̓͜t̷̖̘͂͝ḥ̵̪̑̆ ̵͍̻̒̀b̶̪̅͌l̵̘̩̄̉o̶͓͑ỏ̴͙͋d̸̻̖̈́ ̵͎̖̂s̸̼̉p̶̘̲̂̑ì̶̙l̴͙̪͑́l̶̜̰̿è̵̖͉͝ḍ̸̒͝ ̸̝̖̔w̸̮̐ḯ̴͍̀͜ẗ̷̻͔h̴̛̜̪ ̸̻͛͝ë̷̙́̀n̸͕̈́v̵̖̌́ỳ̶͕̭̐

Douches gonna douche. As much as we like to point out that he's a tasteless scumbag, his base already knows this and loves him for it. A lot of people relish the idea of not caring about anything beyond themselves and being able to openly express opinions without any actual knowledge. They respect that he acts the way they want to.
