In the same vein, I always wondered why they never made a Ground Spider-man who could burrow.

โ€œDoes whatever spider canโ€ will finally be true.

Yes that includes having sex with the spider

[-] faythofdragons@slrpnk.net 23 points 1 day ago

Whatever you do, don't look up how spiders actually have sex

[-] yermaw@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 day ago

My biggest fear about reincarnation is that I'll eventually have sex with a spider.

I dont need details to intensify that fear.

In this alternate universe, is Ant Man an ant who is the size of a man?

[-] hakunawazo@lemmy.world 16 points 1 day ago

Then how big is Captain America?
~(especially the Rob Liefeld version)~

[-] GraniteM@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

As big as Lake Ontario.

If I didn't know any ~~better~~ worse I'd think this image was AI.

[-] Salamanderwizard@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Don't worry, I remember when this was going around. AI could never come up with beauty and power in a image.

[-] shadowtofu@discuss.tchncs.de 21 points 1 day ago

No, clearly Ant man is a man bitten by a radioactive ant, who now has ant powers such as superhuman strength, a hyper-acute sense of smell, and a very strong hand grip.

[-] lemmyng@piefed.ca 25 points 1 day ago

And his Ant-sense, which allows him to detect nearby picnics.

[-] Squirrelknight@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

Where'd he get pants that size? Did he rob it off a Ken doll?

That's a GREAT movie. One of the best of 50's sci-fi, top ten easy. Incredible special effects for the time (much of which still holds up), a great writer in Richard Matheson (novel & script), and dense with metaphors, like a minimized husband in a disintegrating marriage.

Also a 7.6 on imdb, and that's pretty damn good, ESPECIALLY for sci-fi. Other 7.6 movies: My Dinner with Andre, The Ladykillers (1955), Enter the Dragon, From Here to Eternity, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, The Fifth Element, American Psycho, Train to Busan, My Cousin Vinny, Thelma and Louise... This is not a movie that sucks.

Ain't nobody knocking Incredible Shrinking Man while I'm around

[-] Simulation6@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 day ago

I will have to see if I can rewatch it. I was basing the bad mostly on the trailer on imdb.

[-] AngryRedHerring@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Ahhhh, trailers can do that sometimes. I loved that movie for the shrunken stuff, the spider, etc. when I was a kid, but a lot more of it lands as an adult.

The bit where he's yelling at his wife from the dollhouse he's living in landed VERY differently

Why not giant tarantula sized?

[-] username_1@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 1 day ago

And a giant toy bear, and a giant needle...

[-] Randelung@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

I mean the premise is that he's spider sized, but spiders come in pretty big sizes. The rest doesn't have to scale with him.

Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.

Rules
  1. ๐Ÿ˜‡ Be Nice!

    • Treat others with respect and dignity. Friendly banter is okay, as long as it is mutual; keyword: friendly.
  2. ๐Ÿ˜๏ธ Community Standards

    • Comics should be a full story, from start to finish, in one post.
    • Posts should be safe and enjoyable by the majority of community members, both here on lemmy.world and other instances.
    • Any comic that would qualify as raunchy, lewd, or otherwise draw unwanted attention by nosy coworkers, spouses, or family members should be tagged as NSFW.
    • Moderators have final say on what and what does not qualify as appropriate. Use common sense, and if need be, err on the side of caution.
  3. ๐Ÿงฌ Keep it Real

    • Comics should be made and posted by real human beans, not by automated means like bots or AI. This is not the community for that sort of thing.
  4. ๐Ÿ“ฝ๏ธ Credit Where Credit is Due

    • Comics should include the original attribution to the artist(s) involved, and be unmodified. Bonus points if you include a link back to their website. When in doubt, use a reverse image search to try to find the original version. Repeat offenders will have their posts removed, be temporarily banned from posting, or if all else fails, be permanently banned from posting.
    • Attributions include, but are not limited to, watermarks, links, or other text or imagery that artists add to their comics to use for identification purposes. If you find a comic without any such markings, it would be a good idea to see if you can find an original version. If one cannot be found, say so and ask the community for help!
  5. ๐Ÿ“‹ Post Formatting

    • Post an image, gallery, or link to a specific comic hosted on another site; e.g., the author's website.
    • Meta posts about the community should be tagged with [Meta] either at the beginning or the end of the post title.
    • When linking to a comic hosted on another site, ensure the link is to the comic itself and not just to the website; e.g.,
      โœ… Correct: https://xkcd.com/386/
      โŒ Incorrect: https://xkcd.com/
  6. ๐Ÿ“ฌ Post Frequency/SPAM

    • Each user (regardless of instance) may post up to five (5 ๐Ÿ–) comics a day. This can be any combination of personal comics you have written yourself, or other author's comics. Any comics exceeding five (5 ๐Ÿ–) will be removed.
  7. ๐Ÿดโ€โ˜ ๏ธ Internationalization (i18n)

    • Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,
      Sรญ, por favor [Spanish/Espaรฑol]
  8. ๐Ÿฟ Moderation

    • We are human, just like most everybody else on Lemmy. If you feel a moderation decision was made in error, you are welcome to reach out to anybody on the moderation team for clarification. Keep in mind that moderation decisions may be final.
    • When reporting posts and/or comments, quote which rule is being broken, and why you feel it broke the rules.
Banned Artists

The following artists are banned from the community.

  1. Jago
  2. Stonetoss
  3. GPrime85

It should be noted that when you make reports, it is your responsibility to provide rational reasoning why something should be removed. Saying it simply breaks community rules is not always good enough.

Web Accessibility

Note: This is not a rule, but a helpful suggestion.

When posting images, you should strive to add alt-text for screen readers to use to describe the image you're posting:

Another helpful thing to do is to provide a transcription of the text in your images, as well as brief descriptions of what's going on. (example)
