Xi about to infiltrate the entire US without lifting a finger. Dude just stuns Trump on sight because Trump's brain is just sex mush.

[-] danc4498@lemmy.world 34 points 2 days ago

Trump fucked up so bad wirh Iran and he is hoping China oil can lower prices. If he can lower gas prices before midterms, maybe he can the epstein files secret a little longer.

[-] adespoton@lemmy.ca 21 points 2 days ago

This seems really odd.

Since Trump started the Canadian Tariff Wars, the amount of Canadian crude going to the US has dropped substantially. Guess where it’s going instead? China.

While China might sell to the US for less than they’re buying from Canada, it won’t stay that way for long. Just long enough to get the US hooked on Chinese oil, which will likely be sourced in Canada and refined in China before being sold to the US.

There is this article which links to some reports. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/canada-china-trade-export-up-2026-9.7340408

Total crude petroleum exports to China more than doubled to C$5.96 billion

The links in your reply say the value of crude exported in 2014 was $153 billion. So, a very small amount.

As I understand, the desire to get crude to the coast for shipping to Asia is the justification for the pipeline projects.

Isn't China a net importer of oil?

[-] 3abas@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago

The largest net importer of oil. Not only do they consume so much, they also have the largest strategic reserve of crude. They've been tapping it since the Epstein-Iran war limited their access to Iran oil and prices went up.

They have massive refining capacity and they export refined fuel.

[-] stickyprimer@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

Yes. Massively so. I hear people say things like “Chinese oil” and it doesn’t make any sense to me. There is virtually no Chinese oil. There is Chinese financing, and there is Chinese refining services.

[-] Furbag@pawb.social 5 points 2 days ago

They import crude oil and export refined oil.

[-] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 36 points 2 days ago

Imagine if this happened while Obama or Biden were in office.

The only thing that works on those cretins is shame. Shaming them for being deplorable beasts is the only way to get them to stop being amongst the most vile people on the planet.

[-] kbobabob@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 2 days ago

Which one is capable of feeling shame?

[-] minorkeys@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 days ago

I don't see shame doing anything. They defer to power and only so long as they're weaker.

[-] Cheebus@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago

They are still in open contempt of the court order?

They will have to pretend to fall in line at some point then order the same thing another way, they aren't popular enough to totally ignore the courts. Not that they won't try.

[-] bitteroldcoot@piefed.social 27 points 2 days ago

The Chinese press probably has been ordered to flatter the witless trump.

So yes, of course they are let in.

[-] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 14 points 2 days ago

Flattery gets you everywhere with Trump, so it makes sense they’d be told that. If they kiss his ass enough he’ll just give them Taiwan.

... and Americans still won't even entertain the notion of a national strike as their country is flushed down the toilet

[-] Arcanepotato@crazypeople.online 27 points 2 days ago

A national strike would probably be more palatable if there were trusted community organizations that could help the most vulnerable who can't go without pay, even for short periods. It doesn't just have to be cash they distribute, in-kind goods or services would be useful too.

This is what people mean when they say voting isn't enough to make meaningful change. Get to know your neighbors and take care of each other. The state is less scary when you have solidarity.

The German revolutions saw those things just taken and given to the people.

How long do you think a given Walmart could support people for?

The largest strike in the history of the USA was 70K people.

Why are you dreaming of magical solutions?

There have been national strikes in the world, like India, but the USA's standard of living is much too high for that. Nobody else has managed a national strike under similar conditions, it's unheard of. It's never been done.

Besides, your country is probably still using US dollars and accepting US aid, you can't even stop enabling the international beast yourselves. But you have to work and feed your family, we get it.

[-] LePoisson@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

accepting US aid,

Jokes on you and the thousands of dead people from starvation and preventable diseasw. The Trump admin got rid of USAID and our other means of international aid have been significantly curtailed too.

We don't like each other enough. We see the government as a way to make other people angry.

We will deal with the problem when the water around us starts boiling I promise. In the meantime has anyone noticed it's feeling a bit warm in here?

I tuned into “ trump tv” where they were informing their audience that trumps farts cure cancer and that there is a convoy of trans gender Mexican mice headed for the border.

[-] smeenz 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

One assumes the mice are heading there to pay for the wall

But but, in return China is sending two pandas to the Atlanta zoo!

This is a conspiracy theory, but is it really so far-fetched to assume that the most powerful 1% of the populations are joining forces worldwide to establish something like a global feudal regime?

It’s entirely feasible, since we’re talking about just a few thousand people here.

In any case, these people have one thing in common: they view democracy as a problem. This applies to Trump just as much as it does to Putin and Jinping. The same goes for their henchmen, such as Merz in Germany, for example.

It’s not that unthinkable when you consider the fundamental idea behind fascism, as shaped by Mussolini in his day: a brotherhood of the elites striving for absolute rule.

It seems to me that this is now the agenda, especially since in the U.S., with the pseudo-intellectual concept of "Dark Enlightenment," there doesn’t even seem to be any attempt to hide it.

I'm not usually a fan of such ideas, but it does seem very, very suspicious to me, given that the leaders of the world's most powerful countries are apparently doing everything in their power to undo the civilizational progress of the last hundred years—and are clearly doing so in a fairly well-coordinated manner.

Have you ever been close to the top of of a large organization? While conventional wisdom is that the higher you go, the more informed, skilled, coordinated, wise, and even Machiavellian it is. My experience is that its usually the opposite. Sure, there are pockets of those things in individual people, but the people at the top are usually really good at a few things only. If they're truly wise, they surround themselves with other people that cover their own gaps in knowledge, skill, temperament, etc. However the larger and more complicated the organization, the more outer rings of people are required with those other pockets of skills.

In short, complex organizations (this includes governments) are the opposite of " fairly well-coordinated manner". There are just too many moving parts and the environment changes so quickly that the rules that worked a second ago changed. Most successful organizations I've seen make "okay" decisions most of the time "good" decisions every now and then, and the best orgs do everything they can to limit their internal fuck ups.

The best vaccine against conspiracy theories about high groups of coordinated humans in leadership working against you is actually seeing humans in leadership trying to coordinate.

[-] DandomRude@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

I’d be an idiot to say here what I do for a living, but yes, I regularly deal with CEOs -and it’s precisely this experience that makes it all the more likely to me that a conspiracy like the one mentioned above is underway. While I’m nowhere near that level, I’m still quite familiar with the politics in companies with 500 or more employees. For me, this is all the more reason to entertain such thoughts, because I know of hardly any company where performance or competence is even remotely appreciated. The people I know as “the decision-makers” should actually be the very last ones to make decisions—they’re self-absorbed, unscrupulous people.

[-] partial_accumen@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

I'm confused by this statement. If you're familiar with the regular pockets of incompetence that is present in any leadership organization, what leads you to believe they would be successfully executing a broad coordinated conspiracy like this? I'm not suggesting its a lack of greed or narcissism at the top for them to try, but to actually succeed seems pretty unlikely to me.
