I have an irrational fear of doctors, so hoping it resolves on its own.

Edit: I'm going to the ER, this seems kinda serious. I hope it's not DVT, that would complicate getting bottom surgery...

Edit2: I've been told it's an infection. Apparently, a blood test confirmed it. I don't have a clot and a D-dimer test returned 560 ng/ml, which I'm getting checked again with my GP on Monday. I got some antibiotics (for free) and I'm supposed to take those for a week. Thank you everyone for convincing me to go ❤️

Between this and your other concern, I’m glad you went to get things looked at. Neither was a good sign of things. Better to see a doctor then end up in a worse situation.

[-] Miisha@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 day ago

True, I'm glad I went. I'm genuinely so stupid...free healthcare and I'm afraid of doctors 🤦‍♀️

Doctor here, please do not fear me.
Isolated swelling of one leg is a sign of deep vein thrombosis which can lead to pulmonary embolism which are kinda serious. You should have that checked out right now. Heart failure as another commentor said is unlikely since it's only single sided. Lasix is also not the treatement of choice for this since single sided fluid buildup is very rare.

Ofc. It could be totally benign, but from across the screen without further information this is hard to judge and it could be deadly so better be safe than sorry.

Doctor we do not fear you.

We fear insurance.

We love you and wish we could visit more often - sincerely, the American people

As someone who tried to walk off a DVT for a few days, the doctors/nurses were the nicest part of the process.

Insurance denied my prescription though. I was back in the ER the next day when the clot broke apart and compromised my lungs. Fuck insurance.

Holy shit you're lucky to be alive. Fuck the healthcare in this country I swear.

[-] AlmightyDoorman@kbin.earth 3 points 1 day ago

A very valid fear.

Free feet in this economy?

Can't figure out how to say this without it sounding weird but thank you for maintaining your toe nails.

[-] Miisha@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 day ago

Thanks?? 😂
I really kinda don't tho, I just cut them when they get too long. No fancy shaping or polishing for me 😔
Also I get so many ingrown toenails 😭

[-] Malica@lemmy.zip 7 points 1 day ago

So glad you went. Never fuck around with infection, especially like this. I hope it gets better soon!

[-] Miisha@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 1 day ago

Thank you! Yeah, my fear of doctors is pretty dumb tbh. Especially with the healthcare my country has...
I'm glad it's not that serious. Thanks 🩷

That looks bad fam. Did you hurt it, or is it just swelling? Is it painful?

My wife's ankle sometimes swells if she's been wearing restrictive shoes or her allergies flare up, but its not usually by this much.

I get the doctor thing. I would just go to an urgent care for something like this so they can tell you if its something to worry about or not. Those are usually pretty quick and cheap, but YMMV.

Wishing you best of luck, no matter what!

[-] Miisha@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 2 days ago

I think it's from being on my feet the whole day, I was at a convention.
The pain is gone today, so at least there's that.

I take estrogen HRT, so it could actually probably be DVT. Oh well.

Thanks 🩷

[-] Catoblepas@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 2 days ago

Hey, please do not fuck around with this, especially if pressing near your ankles causes an indentation that takes a few seconds to go back to normal. They can do a blood test at the ER to see if you have a clot and treat it.

[-] Limonene@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

Oral estrogen has a higher risk of DVT than others. If it doesn't go away in a day, or you have any symptoms of stroke, please treat it as an emergency. If you start coughing up blood, it's also an emergency, but it's probably too late.

[-] Miisha@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 1 day ago

I'm on injections, they're just better. And it turned out to be NOT DVT, thank fucking god. That would have made it impossible for me to get bottom surgery.
It was an infection and I have some antibiotics to nom :3

[-] ChihuahuaOfDoom@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

The urgent care would look at that and send them to the ER where they would give lasix to get some of the retained fluid out of their body.

[-] coralof@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

This exact thing happened to me last year after I got a huge cut on my leg after an e bike accident. Turned out to be a skin infection (cellulitis). They prescribed some antibiotics and it got better after a few days. Best of luck, op!

[-] dingus@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Holy fucking hell!! That looks terrifying! Glad you went to the doc! What do you think the infection was from??? Did you cut your foot somewhere?

I just went to the doc for some weird clusters of blisters scattered across my right leg/foot, some of which had been painful. The urgent care said they looked like bug bites but they were taking forever to go away. My mom is a nurse and she said it looks like shingles. I'm traveling so it's hard to go to a doc a this point. It's been over a week and at least it doesn't feel worse so I think I'm past the point of antivirals doing anything. Annoying this.

[-] Catoblepas@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 day ago

Was the ER able to take care of you? I hope you’re doing OK!

[-] Miisha@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 day ago

I'm fine! Not DVT, luckily, "just" an infection. Got antibiotics.

Thank you for the concern 🩷

[-] Catoblepas@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 day ago

I’m glad it wasn’t DVT! Hope it gets better soon 🩷🤍🩵

[-] Miisha@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 day ago

Thank you, hope so too! 💜

NSFW, TMIThere's sex to be had and the swelling makes it kinda difficult 😭

[-] FlexibleToast@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

It could be the sign of a weak heart. I'm not saying you're in heat failure, but people in heart failure get fluid build up in their feet/ankles because the heart is having trouble pumping the fluid around. This might be a sign you need to get checked out.
