According to U.S. President Donald Trump, Russia "has been fine on Ukraine" and "hasn't been doing much" to the country it has been attempting to violently conquer for over a decade.

"Russia, frankly, has been fine on Ukraine. They haven't been doing much," Trump told reporters on Oct. 19.

The president's remarks came the same day that a Russian daytime drone strike in a public park killed six people, including two children. The night before, Russia attacked Kyiv with over a dozen ballistic missiles and targeted nearly 30 critical energy facilities across the country.

So the US agreed to protect Ukraine from Russia of they gave up their nukes, and now the US says it's fine for Russia to invade Ukraine.

No, the USA never agreed to protect Ukraine - it was an atrocious deal for the latter.

This not being in a nuclear umbrella is the reason why Russia was willing to risk invading them.

Americans: How does it feel to be part of the USSR (The United States of Soviet Russia)? P.S. Send some more popcorn - we’ve run out. Best regards, Europe.

He's doing everything in his might to lose the midterms even harder. That's the last Putin is gonna get out of him and he knows it.

[-] im_fine_sandy@nord.pub 1 points 33 minutes ago

I wish I were his confident.

[-] ennof@feddit.org 2 points 24 minutes ago

Actually, it could prove fatal to assume that the Republicans are going to lose the house(s). We should assume that they won't and do everything so that they actually do.

But I do think that Putin is seeing Trump's usefulness for him fading, even if we're just looking at a potential defeat of his party.

[-] wuffah@lemmy.world 42 points 7 hours ago

There is absolutely no limit to Trump’s depravity. He is utterly without a soul; purely and completely evil.

[-] MummifiedClient5000@feddit.dk 18 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago)

What does that say about a population that allows him to stay in power for 6 fucking years and counting?

[-] Gradually_Adjusting@lemmy.ca 2 points 4 hours ago

"Why don't the pillars of frozen suffering faces simply rise up against the cenobites? It must be because they're also evil, actually. I am very smart."

[-] MummifiedClient5000@feddit.dk -1 points 1 hour ago

Show me where I called anyone evil. Or where I claimed to be smart.

[-] EffortlessGrace@piefed.social 0 points 48 minutes ago

More cryptic and obtuse bullshit.

[-] Gradually_Adjusting@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 hour ago

Maybe just say what you think it says about the population, so we don't have to guess what your real point is.

[-] mycodesucks@lemmy.world 3 points 27 minutes ago* (last edited 26 minutes ago)

I'll take a crack at it for him, as a born and raised American who has since left.

Nobody is saying everyone in America is evil. In fact, fantastic and incredible and amazing people live there.

But as an aggregate population, they put Trump in charge. There is no getting around that. We can hem and haw all we want about "only X percentage of the population voted" and whatever nonsense we want to to make us feel better about the US population in the aggregate, but at the end of the day enough people either wanted this, or didn't care enough to stop it, to make this happen. That is not a condemnation of every American - in the same way that calling Russia an evil country is not a condemnation of every Russian, but if anything, the population of the US is MORE culpable for this mess because their elections, at least in 2024, meant something.

I'm sure you and most of the people you know are damn fine, respectable, incredible people. But that's not the whole anymore. The country as a whole has lost the plot, and I'm not convinced they can ever get it back.

[-] Gradually_Adjusting@lemmy.ca 0 points 14 minutes ago* (last edited 14 minutes ago)

Well maybe, in point of fact I'm also a recovering American. I see American democracy as fundamentally broken at this point, so I tend to find fault with anyone describing Americans based on election results. Democracy has been under attack ever since the business plot, and it was never in great shape to begin with. Blame Nixon and every (including Democrats) president and congressperson since him for letting it happen in slow-motion plain daylight.

[-] mycodesucks@lemmy.world 1 points 11 minutes ago

They certainly accelerated things, but the fact is, people had every single opportunity at the ballot box to choose better and failed to do so. There were no tanks rolling down Pennsylvania Avenue. This was not a coup. Getting to this point happened because enough of the populace were complicit. I'm glad you're also a recovering American, but the people who are left have to really consider when they say "This isn't us." No, it isn't you, but as a whole country? This might be "us", and it's time to seriously consider the company they're keeping.

[-] Gradually_Adjusting@lemmy.ca 1 points 3 minutes ago

Certainly. I'm always caught between remembering that there are good Americans and the disappointing reality of being a 'good person' living in an evil empire in its final floundering years.

I don't think anyone is in a realistic position to save the US at this point. The money is in charge, and it only wants one thing. When it stops getting it, there's nowhere safe from what will happen.

In an interview with U.S. broadcaster ABC that aired over the weekend, Trump was asked about Putin's presence in Ukraine.

He replied: "He's not going to go into Ukraine, alright? You can mark it down. You can put it down. You can take it anywhere you want." To which the puzzled interviewer asked: "Well, he's already there, isn't he?" referring to Russia's annexation of Crimea in 2014 and support for separatists in Ukraine's east.

"OK, well, he's there in a certain way. But I'm not there. You have Obama there. And frankly, that whole part of the world is a mess under Obama with all the strength that you're talking about and all of the power of NATO and all of this. In the meantime, he's going away. He take, takes Crimea."

From "end the war on day 1" to "it's fine".

[-] Omgpwnies@lemmy.world 32 points 9 hours ago

By the end of the year he'll declare the war "over", regardless of what's actually going on.

[-] Archangel1313@lemmy.ca 14 points 9 hours ago

Then sign an executive order trying to ban all US media from ever mentioning it again.

[-] kreskin@lemmy.world 4 points 9 hours ago

He can try, but it would have no legal effect. Executive orders only work on federal agencies.

[-] FartMaster69@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 5 hours ago

You’re missing the part where the corporate media would want to kiss his ass.

[-] StabbingSky@lemmy.zip 4 points 7 hours ago

He can order the federal agents to deport anyone who does.

[-] kreskin@lemmy.world 0 points 7 hours ago

Under article 2 of the constitution he cannot. (Separation of powers)

[-] lka1988@sh.itjust.works 3 points 6 hours ago

Ohhhh my god, are we seriously doing this? You have seen how ICE is arresting and deporting US citizens, right? Laws mean nothing when they aren't enforced.

[-] RedGreenBlue@lemmy.zip 2 points 6 hours ago

Noone is brave enough to try and stop him

[-] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 10 points 9 hours ago

It's ok. Cuckservatives have no standards so he doesn't need to make good on any of his promises to them. Maybe shit directly into their mouths a bit to placate them. Or insult them directly to their faces. You know, things cucks like.

[-] SinningStromgald@lemmy.world 42 points 10 hours ago

[-] im_fine_sandy@nord.pub 1 points 33 minutes ago

It's enough for 1/2 day of US diesel consumption. That will not move prices, except maybe up.
