Don't post things you care about online
Folks are so stupid online :/
I’m jaded enough that I won’t believe the original post isn’t an AI image meant to farm engagement for slop revenue from boomers on facebook.
How many people saying amen in the comments?
That really really sucks. Never post your kids online. And if this person didn't, it would suck even more if it was a family member or friend.
Not just your kids: Never post ANYONE online unless they're able to understand what this means (aka everyone can take your picture and shove it into "ai", possibly to turn it into porn) AND agree to being OK with the upload. Adults need to be protected from morons just as much as kids do there.
The biggest fight I've ever had with a friend in my life was when she posted photos of me without my permission and I asked her to take them down. It wasn't anything lascivious, I was just having tea at her house and she posted a picture, but I was going for a minimal digital footprint. She took down the photo and then posted an insane rant about how she was CENSURED and she had to delete a post. It was so petty and I think she felt like she was edgy and people would side with her. She deleted the speech after a few days.
This was before the time of AI, but I wholeheartedly agree with you. No one is entitled to use your photos as content without their permission.
Way to figure out who to cut out of your social circle. That doesn't sound like a healthy person to be around.
I always hated having fotos of me taken. The one and only exception I will make is for fotos of me in certain cosplays when I'm in a bigger group because I am not really recognisable on those and a group helps hide me specifically even more.
I forgave her at the time, but you're right. It was such a big red flag that should have warned me of so many things that came in the future. At her core, she couldn't respect boundaries if they didn't agree with her plans.
Sadly it's very human to want to cling to connections we have, even if they're incredibly unhealthy. =/ Congrats to you for eventually figuring out and getting away! I hope she didn't cause too much damage.
That's super sweet of you to ask. I was really depressed for several years, but I recovered. She was a big part of my life for a very long time and let her mask slip incrementally until I was left holding my head, confused as to how I let it get that bad. But no matter how bad things get, I'm always surprised at how resilient humans can be!
I usually don't go out of my way to explain privacy to people, but I have to explain to almost every new acquaintance that I don't have to have a particular reason to refuse being in photos. One of the most egregious cases went in the line of "I hung out with that kind of famous guy once and he asked me not to post pictures of him, I can understand that, but why would you, a nobody, refuse being in pictures!?"
Saddest part is that even people who agree to not take pictures of you without further explanaion will usually throw quips at you every time there is a camera nearby.
I've gotten that too. It's almost like you've personally offended them. It's such a weird reaction.
Pretty sure it's addiction. They need to be posting about what happens in their lives on social media and you're between them and their fix.
Posting your kids online is asshole behaviour. But if the likes are ao importent...
Publish selfies and/or photos of the own children online and claim after it that someone or somewhat misuse these images, it's not thing of assholes, but of complete militarygrade idiots
Just so I understand. Parent posts their child with a visible physical disability, something I think is not cool for any child but I’m sure must be nice for people who have or help assist with similar disabilities, and I’m sure can be uplifting for those who don’t. Fine, I don’t like it (the content angle, not the concept of visibility of people not like me), but fine.
What the hell is the kindest possible interpretation of the AI edit? What does anyone gain from that? Am I missing something fundamental or are we just witnessing a pathologically cynical attempt at engagement farming? I don’t even think the commenter knows if they’re being supportive or just rage baiting, I feel like after a certain point it’s just content is content is numbers is numbers. I really need to read Baudrillard.
I'm pretty confident it's just "oh they're not smiling, Grok, fix it". People like that rarely think deeper than that, in my experience.
People like that rarely think deeper than that, in my experience.
That's my experience as well. Usually followed by them getting very offended someone called out their gesture and explained all the side effects that they won't have to deal with, especially in this day and age of people trying to minimize their online footprint.
Similar to the photoshop of the Fallout TV show poster to give her a crazy dumptruck ass, i think people just kinda fucking suck a lot. Posting it in the comments kinda insane though
It's 100% trolling. That being said, the original was using a child for engagement farming. Both behaviors are less than ideal imo.
They don't need permission to be pieces of shit. They slowed down a vid of Pelosi to make her look drunk before AI. Also, fuck Pelosi.

And the slop has 2x the number of likes
The person posting did, but looks like unknowingly.
It's Instagram. You think Facebook isn't going to train AI on literally every piece of content on their websites, that it already has licenses to?
Thing is once you post online, it is almost impossible to not be morphed by people using AI, so I think everyone should keep their profile private and only allow trusted people to look at their profile
Why post at all? Just show you friends your phone when you're together. If I don't see them in real life they aren't my friend, and they don't get to see it
I would go beyond that once you post anything online its not yours. Your words, your thoughts, your photos, your moments. You can't create culture in these spaces or outcoves its all algorithms meant for you to get locked in, replicate, and consume. None of it is meant to be yours.
Man its crazy how much these companies are allowed to scoop up and just throw into their models. You don't even have to be online and your friends and family are contributing to your online presence and building a profile on you.
Facebook can make ai advertisements with your kids likeness because you posted a picture of them to share with your family. They let algorithms absorb your frustrations and fears then let advertisers and endless content feeds manipulate those fears until you are a different person. So you can't even communicate your own emotions without then getting stolen and used against you. I don't want people to become anti social and not talk to their family, but if you do it through anyone's social media site then whatever you post there is not yours. I would argue that Facebook has torn apart more family's, and ruined more peoples lives than it has been beneficial to humanity in anyway.
The only benefit to anyone are the likes of Cambridge analytica or the many dictators that got instilled after Facebook used peoples fears to manipulate revolutions and genocides so the united States can have a "trade partner"
who is she?
my daugther's [sic] image
I conclude, the girl is not her daughter, but a random girl her daughter took a photo of.
I think he's asking who the AI representation is supposed to be because it clearly is not his daughter, from the top image. Trying to shame them
Just saw this article today about the phenomenon :/
AI used to remove visible differences from photographs criticised - BBC News
Why is a child’s photo online to begin with? Also how do we know it’s not the dad who used AI to remove his child’s eyes from the photo to get clicks?
I think it's the other way around.
Someone shared a photo of their disabled child and someone make them look normal.
I think.
Don’t want to be a dick here, and I don’t think you meant anything by it, but I just wanted to provide a friendly note:
The opposite state of being disabled is being “able”
Some would assume that your current phrasing carries with it the subtext that “disabled people are not and cannot be normal”
(Personally I don’t think of ‘normalcy’ as really being a thing in humans, everyone is fairly uniqie for better or worse)
Fair enough. I was searching for the right word and I got it wrong. I certainly have my own peculiarities and agree that the concept of a normal human is unhelpful.
I suppose we don't know, but either way it's fucked and says nothing good and the world we live in
A phrase that could be applied to an uncomfortable number of situations we see in the modern world.
Even worse, why Instagram? If you're posting a picture of your disabled child on the internet, why would you put it on a platform full of edgy humoured people who would compete against each other to see who makes the most degrading and ableist comment, if you aren't doing it solely to get clicks and engagement?
Who gave him permission? She did, when she willingly uploaded a photo of her child online.
Always irked me how people seem to think when they post things online they still have rights/control over it.
People need to stop posting this level of personal stuff online.
That seems a little too close to saying that a woman was "asking for it" because of the way she was dressed...
How do you figure?
No that's bullshit. Anyone ever read the ToS on the sign up form on a platform like Instagram and Facebook? It's in the fine print.
There's no legal fine print sating a woman is asking for it because of how she is dressed. What a terrible analogy.
So you think putting up a picture of your kid means it's acceptable for people to manipulate it in a highly disrespectful way? Because that's what I'm hearing from you. "She put the picture up, she was just ASKING for this to happen. Practically BEGGING for it!"
I'm not saying it's acceptable. I'm saying why put yourself in that position. You can't control what others do... Similar to nightreign reasonable expecation of privacy in public.
