Welcome to today’s daily kōrero!

Anyone can make the thread, first in first served. If you are here on a day and there’s no daily thread, feel free to create it!

Anyway, it’s just a chance to talk about your day, what you have planned, what you have done, etc.

So, how’s it going?

Our family does the big get together on Christmas Eve, so will be heading out the door soon. I usually make a certain kind of salad, and a dark chocolate mousse as well. This year I thought I'd try a raspberry one, that didn't work quite as intended (tastes nice but the texture isn't quite right), so I (impatiently and in a rush) went back to the good old chocolate one.

But since I was impatient, I messed it up and there are chocolate lumps all through it. Fail. That was yesterday, so this morning I made the third batch, which turned out fine like normal (since I was in a better frame of mind and actually paying attention to what I was doing).

So, long story short - I have vast quantities of b-grade mousse in the fridge, so that will be what we're eating for the next few days. Mousseaggedon.

Take the raspberry one anyway! If it tastes nice then people probably won't care, plus you can bring the good one as well so people can choose.

Took my 4 year old to the Dinosaurs of Patagonia exhibition at The Papa this morning. It's fucking spectacular. I wasn't really expecting all that much from it, and it is fairly tame to begin with, but the final exhibits are pretty amazing. Kid loved it too.

Thanks for the tip! Do you reckon it would be good for a 11 and 8 yo?

[–] happy_piwakawaka 3 points 11 months ago

Yeah I think we're going to take our 8 yo later in the holidays as I think she'll like it too.

Oh shit, I forgot about the dinosaurs! I missed the last time there were dinosaurs in Te Papa, have been waiting for this one! Will have to go this coming week!

It's muggy af, why am I cooking stuff?

[–] sylverstream 4 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I've been cooking stuff too and indeed it was very warm. Perhaps turn on the AC if you have that?

[–] sortofblue 3 points 11 months ago

I compromised and spent the rest of the afternoon lying on the sofa under the ceiling fan with a good book.

We’re cooking too. Recently started on a weekend free electric plan, that’s free from 9:00-17:00 on Sat & Sun. Baked lots to freeze ready for the week ahead, plus did all the weeks washing.

Yuuup, more cooking happening over here too! Lechon Pork Belly, so good.

I've realized I basically got my partner junk food for christmas. I hope he enjoys it.

[–] thevoyagekayaking 4 points 11 months ago

That's basically my Christmas day plans.

[–] Dave 3 points 11 months ago

Junk food makes a good present, I think.

[–] eagleeyedtiger 3 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Looking at the forecast here.. I guess a Wet Christmas is about as close as we'll get to a White Christmas??

[–] Dave 3 points 11 months ago

I wasn't brave enough to check!

[–] sylverstream 3 points 11 months ago

Still need to wrap gifts... And do other chores. Wanted to go outside but it's raining :(

[–] thevoyagekayaking 3 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Kayaking the Otaki river is a pretty good way to spend Christmas eve, right?

On the 26th, we're walking into Otaki forks for an even longer trip.

Definitely! That's a pretty cool visualisation too!

[–] thevoyagekayaking 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

It's a great app actually.

[–] sylverstream 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I checked the reviews and it has pretty mixed reviews. Eg hard to customise, buggy etc. What are your thoughts? It looks pretty cool to use on eg hikes.

[–] thevoyagekayaking 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I'm pretty pleased with it, the app is very easy to use, and takes very little time. You start recording a trip, take a few photos along the way, then finish recording, pick the best photos, and create a video. The lack of customisation is a feature more than anything.

What bugs were they talking about?

[–] sylverstream 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Thanks will give it a try! Bugs were that it would only record a straight line for the trip or that the entire trip was lost when they didn't have reception during the trip.

[–] thevoyagekayaking 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Cell reception, or GPS reception? Obviously it won't work without GPS reception, it works just fine with no cell signal.

[–] sylverstream 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Without cell reception. People said they lost entire trips that way.

[–] thevoyagekayaking 1 points 11 months ago

If you save a trip with no data, it's still there, but not sure where they usually show up, you need to go to the "your profile" section.

I suspect that's what happened to them.

Chilling at home, nothing much going on, wish I had some more friends to go to the bar, house party or a restaurant etc though

[–] Dave 1 points 11 months ago

I'm likewise chilling at home with nothing much going on, but enjoying it 😆. It's the calm before the storm.
