Sad to see that yuzu settled with Nintendo. I don't play Nintendo games but I don't like seeing emulators getting sued.

Got an idea for next month's banner?
Ah I didn't know about this. Open source, though, right? So there might be a fork soon?
There are plenty of forks already, but it's too early to tell which one will go mainstream. In the meantime, one could use Ryujinx - which is NOT a fork of Yuzu but is another decent open-source alternative.
How come that hasn't been targeted by Nintendo the same way?
They could. But the Yuzu Team did a lot of stuff wrong (like showing off TOTK screenshots before the game was officially released, openly discussing piracy on the Discord server, paywalled releases etc) and attracted too much unwanted attention, whereas Ryujinx has remained in the shadows.
The other thing is, Yuzu was backed by a US company (Tropic Haze LLC) - which made them an easy target. Ryujinx on the other hand is just a group of contributors (mainly based in Brazil I believe so DMCA etc is irrelevant there).
The worst Nintendo could do against Ryujinx I reckon is serve a DMCA notice to the Github repo but that's no big deal, they can easily host it elsewhere.
Yeah I saw they are supposed to pay millions to Nintendo for Yuzu and Cintra. If they have money, they must have had a business model? Was it just donations?
Donations, but effectively it was like a paid tier since you got early access to feature releases. Apparently they've been earning 30k per month.
It's crazy they ever thought it was a good idea! Nintendo is notoriously protective of their IP, to rake in cash in a US based company from software built to stop people giving Nintendo money... that's just crazy.
Yep, there were plenty of red flags. No one in the community is surprised about the outcome, what is surprising though is that it took Nintendo this long to take action. Most of us thought it was gonna be all over when they were proudly showing off how they got TOTK working before the game was even out, so I'm surprised they had such a long run.
Tried a new game, got horribly motion sick. I guess I'll spend a bunch of time trying to tweak settings in hopes of being able to play.
I get this a lot. I won't play games that don't have adjustable FOV if it's first/third person, for this reason.
Also turning off things like motion blur can help. Sitting further back from the screen sometimes works too.
Yeah I put it in window mode, turned off all bobbing, had 3rd person on already, did some other stuff and it's helping. Talos Principle 2, so they've built in a lot to help. Which is nice.
Video game? VR?
Video. Anything VR is just a nope.
Do you do better on a smaller screen?
Yeah it can have an impact. As can playing with lights on and some other stuff. Simulation sickness kinda sucks. Some games don't do it at all, others make me so sick so fast.
There are some things I'd like to collect feedback on for people on (and who participate in) this instance.
Does anyone have suggestions for google form type software, that fits in the the FOSS Lemmy theme?
