Welcome to today’s daily kōrero!

Anyone can make the thread, first in first served. If you are here on a day and there’s no daily thread, feel free to create it!

Anyway, it’s just a chance to talk about your day, what you have planned, what you have done, etc.

So, how’s it going?

What we’re seeing is an increase in the number of ways that people can influence electoral outcomes, and the formation of public opinion, free from public scrutiny. [...] The label I would put on all this stuff is privatisation of democracy.

Dirty politics 2.0

PriceSpy alternatives? (self.newzealand)
submitted 1 year ago by ciaocibai to c/newzealand

Pricespy used to be great for building lists, tracking component prices and designing new systems, but it seems the website has only got worse over time. Are there any NZ alternatives out there that are worth trying?

It’s match day!

Been great to discuss the games as they happen throughout the tournament. How are we feeling about this final?

Here's some light news for you.

Just one week after opening, Fugitoto made a splash in Epsom when it introduced its king salmon ice cream flavour, and within a day, it was gone.

Two weeks later, the store had sold a full four-litre tub of it every single day.

They are selling so much, co-owner Jiani Yuchi said they were not letting customers sample it, claiming you could not get the proper flavour.

So if you want to try it, you had better be prepared to drop $12 for a scoop.

Photo Friday 27.10 (self.newzealand)
submitted 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) by sortofblue to c/newzealand

Man, this week seriously got away on me. The only photos I managed to take this week were either work related, or photos of things I needed to remember Hopefully this weekend will be a bit calmer.

This week I already have an idea of what I want to shoot and it's going to require me to get out of the house, which is kind of the whole point, at least for me.

This week, the prompt is: something that looks like a face, but isn't

The same rules apply, namely, it has to be your own photo and it can't be NSFW but otherwise, go nuts 😁

This is something close to home for me, I have 3 boys, the education system doesn't seem to cater to a lot of boys.

Kia ora!

I’ve added māori to the list of languages I’m gonna try and learn in the next year. Sadly it seems like Duolingo has shelved their māori project (though I actually now think this might be a good thing).

Thought I’d check out my local library and found a great book available to borrow digitally: Te Reo Māori: The Basics Explained by David Kārena-Holmes.

I feel like te reo education in NZ for most people consists of learning a few key words, but it doesn’t really go into the grammar of the language. This book provides a really great clear explanation of the grammar and sentence construction of the language.

I think the next thing I need is flash cards for practicing the meanings of particles and prepositions in example sentences because this looks like the most complex thing to learn.

What resources have you found really useful when you’re studying māori (or any other language for that matter)?
