Welcome to today’s daily kōrero!

Anyone can make the thread, first in first served. If you are here on a day and there’s no daily thread, feel free to create it!

Anyway, it’s just a chance to talk about your day, what you have planned, what you have done, etc.

So, how’s it going?

Got a Kobo E-Reader over the weekend - been enjoying it so far, and it's been good to get into reading again :)

I have an ear infection; it is annoying but my appointment for my doc is still 7 days away...so I went to ER last night to get it looked at because it started weeping red/yellow fluid and was really painful....4.5hrs later they are booking me into an ENT specialist.

We moved the 1yo’s cot to her own room last week finally, it’s been an adjustment period as she’s been unwell again, but we’re getting a decent sleep some nights now. After a year of broken sleep every night, it’s nice to be able to relax in our own bedroom again.

I'm a heartless monster, I kicked the kids out of the bedroom on about the 5th day. Neither of us would get any sleep with the baby in the room.

They also shared a bedroom for about 6 years until the younger one wanted his own room. You'd think that'd make them super close or something, but nah they fight like siblings always seem to.

Our first slept in our room for about the first 4 years due to our living situation. It was hard to train her to sleep without my wife when it came time.

We planned to do it differently this time, but became lazy to move her. It was starting to get too much though at 1 year because she refuses to sleep if she wakes up in the middle of the night and can see us from her tiny jail.

I do not miss those days. Our youngest is three now, and we probably only need to get up to one of them a couple of times a week now, if they are healthy and on a good sleep schedule.

I think she actually sleeps better when she can’t see us. I did have to get a cheap webcam for the room as she likes to sleep on her tummy. Also helps that we can check on her without opening the door in the middle of the night as she can sometimes settle herself back to sleep

I can imagine the camera being useful. I can remember times wishing we had one, especially on cold nights when we didn't want to get out of bed.

It must be spring, there's a Tui peering in through the windows at me while I work.

I just want to be out mountain biking... It's actually really fun in the rain and mud, as long as it's not too cold.

Anyone have any experience with Prosody? Or with maintaining rear mountain bike shocks?

My coffee is unusually good this morning, probably the freshly ground beans. Maybe I need to stop being lazy and start grinding the beans when I make the coffee instead of doing a week's worth at a time.

[–] Axisential 2 points 1 year ago

Freshly ground is the single best thing you can do for your home coffee! I'm a Moka pot guy, and that in combo with my MacKenzie beans is a match made in heaven

You've motivated me to stop procrastinating (for the last 2.5 months lol) and order a new batch of Beans - decided to try Kokako this time.

[–] Dave 2 points 1 year ago

I'm glad a story about my laziness could be so motivating 😄

I currently have Raglan Roast Brown Lightning beans and I grind them in small batches for my pour over coffee when I work from home and it's so tasty (especially with just a splash of full cream added).

Looks good! I might look at grabbing some when I need some more.

I've noticed a distinct lack of news now the election is over. Is there nothing interesting happening in NZ?

[–] eagleeyedtiger 3 points 1 year ago

Tbh I don't really follow NZ related news outside of anything major. I feel too much like I'm old if I keep talking about the news.

[–] liv 2 points 1 year ago

There has to be!

[–] ColonialSpore 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I embrace the lack of news. In my opinion, boring news is a sign of a nice place to live. Those people in Gaza, Vanuatu, etc. have interesting news. I'm happy with my news.

[–] Dave 1 points 1 year ago

Yes that's fair. I was worried that some horrible thing would happen as soon as I complained about the lack of news.
