Be Japanese

Have dead-end job in back of office

No work to do, no upward mobility, no future opportunities

Collect a steady paycheck every two weeks. Feels-Good-Man.jpg

New PM takes office. Goes full MAGA nationalist. Picks trade wars. Starts fights with neighbors. Alienates people inside our own sphere of influence even.

Oh shit, bros. Looks like its another All-Ramen month again.

[–] lessthanluigi@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 7 hours ago

And not the Ramen Shop kind

But that exact thing happened in USAmerica when they did it? Who could've predicted this result!?!?

[–] Redditmodstouchgrass@lemmy.zip 2 points 13 hours ago

I wonder if that balances out with the tariffs. Maybe I could start buying stuff from there again.

[–] FavouriteShapes@sh.itjust.works 12 points 13 hours ago (3 children)

Boss can't fire me because i'm japanese

well obviously this is not real

[–] Zephyr@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 hours ago

They can but it's unusual. They have an honor system and expect people to quit. They'll go as far as sticking people in a room with nothing to do and not able to sleep until they give up, essentially adult time out.

[–] Rooster326@programming.dev 6 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago) (2 children)

They expect to own you until the day you die.

Interviewed for a job there. They asked how long I would want to work for them. Told them I'd absolutely love to work for them as long as they can host my visa, and I'd love to even become a citizen.

That... Was not the right answer.

The interview was over from them on.

I still do not know what I said wrong. They don't allow remote work so... Do they want me to become an illegal just to work for them?

[–] Zephyr@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 hours ago

Probably the visa aspect. Japan is like famously racist and xenophobic.

[–] FavouriteShapes@sh.itjust.works 3 points 10 hours ago

I'm so at my wits end with hiring managers that I would just email "okay so what was the right answer??"

[–] Redditmodstouchgrass@lemmy.zip 7 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

I don't know the full story, but that is apparently somewhat true. That's why you'll hear in games and manga that someone in a fairly auspicious position will get punished by cleaning toilets or something.

[–] FavouriteShapes@sh.itjust.works 2 points 13 hours ago

I see. That's incredibly based then?

[–] DaPorkchop_@lemmy.ml 59 points 1 day ago

fake: anon has a wife
gay: anon is punished by his boss and likes it, which is clearly a euphemism for the forbidden but very kinky relationship between anon and his boss

Yeah, no, when someone’s secluded, they’re often put in an empty room without so much as a window, and given literally nothing to do, but sit there. Can’t even have a phone out. It’d drive me mad enough to quit, and the same is true of lots of people.

[–] toph@feddit.uk 8 points 13 hours ago

This would be considered power harassment in Japan and you can sue for it. Companies try to do it anyways though.

[–] whimsy@lemmy.zip 72 points 1 day ago (1 children)

This is the story of a man named Stanley...

[–] zaphod@sopuli.xyz 50 points 1 day ago

It’d drive me mad enough to quit, and the same is true of lots of people.

So you're saying it works.

[–] Waterpumpee@lemmus.org 25 points 1 day ago (5 children)

Not legal in countries where you cant outright fire people. You have to get them tasks. No phone out wouldnt be enforceable unless they sit you in a bunker with no connection.

[–] LH0ezVT@sh.itjust.works 2 points 15 hours ago

Is it? It's your boss' duty to provide you with work and they cannot dock your pay (outside of special circumstances) if they don't have work for you, but they can absolutely pay you to sit around and drink coffee in case work comes around.

[–] StaticFalconar@lemmy.world 6 points 23 hours ago

Your task is to hand write copies of the company slogan for every working hour.

[–] Ostrakon@lemmy.world 22 points 1 day ago (10 children)

It being illegal doesn't stop people from doing it.

In Japan, thats the whole point. The business will do this to make you quit instead of them firing you. They have whack employment laws.

[–] jama211@lemmy.world 4 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Sounds good in a way because you can take as long as you like applying for other jobs without losing your current income.

[–] Madison420@lemmy.world 4 points 14 hours ago

Often comes with a job title change and people notice those sorts of things in Japan.

WHY IS NOBODY CREATING MORE MEAT FOR THE MACHINE!?!?!?

Politicians unable to get people to make fuck trophies because they can't afford crap, have to slave away until they're 70, return to a shoe box as a home, breathe polluted air from birth to death, and survive a burning planet.

No idea why people don't want to pump out more than 2.1 units per woman. It's a total mystery!

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 1 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

No idea why people don’t want to pump out more than 2.1 units per woman.

People living in significantly worse conditions have historically produced significantly more children.

But the modern post-industrial lifestyle discourages people from having children primarily because of easy access to birth control. That means you can fuck without risk of having babies. For young people, this is a no-brainer. Condom use, UIDs, and hormonal birth control have tanked teenage/early-20s birth rates everywhere it has been introduced. Combine this with good health care, globally, and many people no longer fear they will lose half their children to some infant malady or childhood accident. Low Child Mortality -> Lower Propensity to Have Kids.

If you want higher rates of reproduction in your population, you need younger people having babies. And you need more people convinced that the kids they do have won't live to see adulthood.

Say what you will about the current Trump government, but we're definitely moving in those directions.

[–] atro_city@fedia.io 1 points 11 hours ago

Right-wing bullshit propaganda. Freedumb of screech for beta males who can't recognise they're being controlled by wealthy, Christian nationalists, but freedom of choice for women is a problem.

The earlier women have kids, the greater the chance they will not have a degree, be successful earlier in their carrier and the greater risk of being controlled, and that's exactly your goal. You and your kind just want obedient, subservient women who don't talk back and suck your tiny stinky peckers when you need it.

Keep your pedophile hands away from the kids. Grow a modicum of self-respect to stop bending over backwards to suck Epstein class dick and spreading their filthy propaganda.

[–] DeepRoots@lemmy.world 22 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I agree with you but people who call other humans fuck trophies or crotch goblins are usually just the fucking worst most insufferable people ever.

[–] atro_city@fedia.io 4 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

My entire message is filled with hyperbole and you go "all the other stuff is fine, but I draw the line at 'fuck trophy'". You're the type of person who will break up a peaceful demonstration because somebody wore the wrong clothes that day.

The enemy of good, the friend of perfect.

[–] DeepRoots@lemmy.world 1 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

holy straw man.

You don't think I should call human children fuck trophy's? You must be pro police brutality.

Jfc I clocked you perfectly it seems.

[–] atro_city@fedia.io 1 points 7 hours ago

Sure you did. What are you, a cop that pulls over minorities by "clocking" them by instinct? GTFO

[–] Gork@sopuli.xyz 50 points 1 day ago (2 children)

The entire not leaving until your boss leaves (who also must leave after her boss leaves) leads to a chain where only the CEO gets off first, leading to the really toxic 14 hour days. At least layoffs don't seem to be as prevalent there.
